HOUSE PRICES DROP

STEAMER TERMINAL SITE FOR SALE Late News The site of the former railway station and steamer terminal at the east end of Helensburgh has been put up for sale. The land at Craigendoran, extending to approximately seven acres, is being marketed by local estate agents Clyde Property.

The average price for property in Helensburgh stood at £221,833 in August 2019. This is a fall of 0.77% in the last three months (since May 2019) and fall of 6.23% since 12 months ago. In terms of property types, flats in Helensburgh sold for an average of £135,097 and terraced houses for £151,583. Three bedroom houses sell for around £200,00. This is according to the current Zoopla estimates. There were 324 sales over the past 12 months. It took on average 110 days to sell a one bed flat down to between 70 to 85 days for traditional four and five bedroom properties, which continue to be in short supply.

An adjacent site immediately to the west received planning permission earlier this year for a B&B and kayak centre, despite opposition from nearby residents and Helensburgh Community Council. The Clyde Property brochure states: “The site is completely unique due to its stunning waterfront location, is totally level and commands stunning views to the south, west and east over the water across to Greenock.

“The site is identified within the Helensburgh-Craigendoran 'Area for Action' which suggests that the council will support recreational/tourist development within the broader area.” Craigendoran's pier, and adjacent railway terminal, was formerly a major hub for Clyde steamer services. The pier was opened in 1882, and was the home base for the paddle steamer Waverley when it entered service in 1947, but the facility was closed in 1972 after years of decline. The site was once a major steamer terminal
