This month: Are you planning a health blitz in the New Year? Well if you are anything like me then then the usual pattern is likely to happen, you will hit it for 3 weeks, lose a few kilos, then gradually slip gently back into the old habits and your cosy slippers. Being a senior doesn’t mean having to give up the gym or losing touch with regular exercise. I recently met with the wonderful April Logan who works with the Glasgow University Health and Fitness Team. They run a wonderful and vibrant Active Age Programme at the nearby Garscube Sports Complex which is open to all seniors in Bearsden and Milngavie. They run various classes during the week combining
gentle aerobics, body strengthening and flexibility. And in keeping with the social aspect the class gets together for a cuppa and chat afterwards. They are currently offering anyone a week’s free pass to try any of their classes as they want folk to try before they sign up. And why not bring a buddy, exercise buddies have proven to be more effective that exercising alone – plus we all like a good gab to take our mind off it. Ken’s player sup Local businessman Ken Godsman has recently pledged his company’s support to two aspiring female Scottish Hockey players. Ken, director of ACT Construction in Anniesland, is sponsoring Kareena “Kaz” Cuthbert and Robyn Collins, who play in the Scotland Senior Women Squad. Kaz, 29, boasts an impressive player CV with more than 100 caps and many highlight achievements including being part of the winning 2011 European Trophy team and sixth in the European Championships 2015, during which she scored a goal against England. She has played in the Commonwealth Games 2010 in Delhi but was forced to miss out

on Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games due to injury. The centre defender is also coach and manager of the increasingly successful Western Wildcats, based in Milngavie. Robyn, 24, won a silver medal at the Home Nations in 2010 and in 2013 was selected for Team GB at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
