Students returned to Keyport Central School this September to two new administrative faces: Erik Mammano, promoted to principal, and Elijah Pereira, newly appointed assistant principal. They replace Anthony Rapolla and Kevin Flynn, respectively, both of whom accepted other positions within the Keyport school district. According to Keyport Board of Education Superintendent Lisa Savoia: “Their intentions are to help Keyport Public Schools in providing and maintaining a physically and emotionally safe learning environment that allows our students to flourish and excel. They are committed to working with the school community in order to ensure the success of all children in the classrooms.” Formerly, Mammano was assistant principal at Keyport High School for the past three years. His diverse 15-year career includes jobs as a social studies teacher, coach, advisor and mentor. He lives in Ocean Township with his wife, an elementary school teacher, and has three children under 8. Pereira was previously dean of students for the Ewing School District in N.J. Trilingual in English, Spanish and Portuguese, Elijah is married to a special-education teacher and has a three-year-old daughter. “[Both men] believe that input and collaboration within the community are essential,” says Savoia. “They have an open-door policy and welcome questions, concerns or ideas. Changes…will be demonstrated by increased student achievement.”
