Communist Party Trade Union Day School Saturday 24 September 2011 10am-4pm Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate London EC2M 4QH Dear brother/sister, We are living through pivotal times for workers in Britain and throughout the world. The Communist Party Trade Union Coordinating Committee has organised a day school for CP members and supporters who are active trade unionists to discuss the challenge facing our working class. We invite you to take part. The day school provides a real opportunity to examine the burning issues of the day, sharing experiences and lessons, putting them in political context and considering further directions and priorities. Speakers and participants include those at the forefront of organising union action in defence of jobs and pensions and against cuts. Communists always focus on developing the organisation and power of the organised working class as the surest way to defeat the strategy of the capitalists. Central to our Party’s work is the activity undertaken by comrades in the trade union movement. Comrades are putting in a huge amount of excellent work at all levels of the movement, in workplaces, branches, regions & districts, trades councils, national executives and as trade union officials. Some comrades have decades of experience – others are relatively new to trade union work. The experience of all comrades is essential in taking this work forward. All our work needs to be co-ordinated and considered within the Party’s overall political strategy for Socialism, and particularly now in the context of the new edition of “Britain’s Road To Socialism”. We will be following broad themes during the day, with introductions to each, but with the hope that all comrades attending will contribute. No individual comrade has all the answers – but together we can come up with a great many of them! Discussion in these sessions will be important in setting the strategic positions to be promoted through Needs of the Hour, the Party's list of model motions for unions to adopt, during the course of next year. I send comradely greetings and look forward to your positive response, Anita Halpin Chair of CP TUCC Sign up for the day now at www.communist-party.org.uk or CPB, Ruskin House, Croydon, CR0 1BD
