As I reflect on my own journey as a parent to a graduating 8th grader, I want to call special attention to the signature Kaleidoscope program that helps differentiate Riviera Ridge from other schools. The program commences as an exploration of world religions and cultures. Whether it’s a visit from a Chumash Elder, or perhaps a Rabbi, students learn about the art, music, and traditions different than their own. As they enter Middle School, the students begin to discuss ethics and beliefs and, through service learning, develop their own Service in Action projects. The program culminates in 8th grade with their capstone project and, this year, a trip to Los Angeles where they visited Homeboy Industries, the Museum of Tolerance, Watts Tower, and a Buddhist temple sandwiched around a day of service at Big Sunday and a fun evening watching Hairspray in Hollywood.
The conversations these experiences have generated around our kitchen table over the years have been fascinating, thoughtful, and meaningful and reinforce our choice to be at this school. The ability to empathize and connect with others from different backgrounds and beliefs is an increasingly important emotional skill that is cultivated at our school.
It’s no wonder that enrollment has been on a steady rise as the word is spreading about the great education that can be found at Riviera Ridge through our signature programs, Kaleidoscope, SEEK!, and ExSEL More than once, I have wondered whether I could potentially re-enroll in school.
Thank you all for choosing to be with us here on The Ridge and I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.
Steve Welton, President Riviera Ridge Board of TrusteesOur “Living Kaleidoscope”
The Joy in Our Journey was reflected distinctly in our unique Signature Program, Kaleidoscope, a tradition rooted in our school’s heritage and commitment to celebrating our differences with a dedication to community belonging and servant leadership.
We want to highlight and celebrate the many faculty and staff who continue to research and creatively dive into growing and teaching our most unique signature curricular program, Kaleidoscope. The Riviera Ridge School’s exclusive Kaleidoscope Program was developed and created as a collaborative effort between Marymount and UCSB’s Religious Studies Department in 2007 and has grown exponentially over the last 16 years. The Kaleidoscope Program prioritizes the study of historical, cultural, ethical, and moral perspectives through a reflective view of world religions. This premier curricular program promotes and increases opportunities for respect, inclusivity, and a deeper understanding of religious values and beliefs.
Beginning in Junior Kindergarten, our students are given the unique opportunity to experience and study the traditions and values of world religions and diverse cultures through a global and unifying perspective, while we highlight our core values throughout the curriculum. Our youngest students begin with the exploration of personal character, moral values, service learning, and ethical behavior throughout their Lower School experience. As students enter the Middle School years, they are invited to participate in our unique study of Service Learning, Ethical Leadership, and culminate with a comparative and comprehensive study of World Religions in the 8th grade.
As we updated our school’s Mission, Vision, Strategic Plan, and Statement of Diversity, the commitment, and celebration of our Kaleidoscope Program allows us to strengthen our core values and a wellrounded academic experience to include the study of all religious traditions and spiritual beliefs. Now, more than ever, it is vital we provide every opportunity to our community to build resilient, kind, and joyfilled students who are prepared to engage in our local and global community as compassionate and confident citizens with a purpose beyond themselves.

GALA BENEFIT
THE RIVIERA RIDGE SCHOOL celebrated the first off-campus Gala Benefit in April since 2019, “Under the Moroccan Moon.” Thanks to the incredible work of our Gala Chairs, Ivana Firestone, Analise Maggio, and Alexandra Ramirez, guests gathered for a magical night of community building, including live bidding, a raffle, a three-course Moroccan-inspired dinner, and dancing into the night at the Montecito Club.
Current Riviera Ridge parent, Andrew Firestone hosted the spirited live bidding, featuring a variety of luxurious items, such as trips and school-focused perks, including a VIP parking space. In addition, he led a lively Paddle Raise, “From Swingsets to Scholarships” supporting a variety of options to inspire the joy and wellness of the community.
The Gala Benefit raised over $300,000 which helps fund our entire campus and student experience, including scholarships, enhanced campus safety, faculty and staff professional development, and updated Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade play equipment.

Dear Riviera Ridge School and Marymount Alumni Community,
The Joy In Our Journey was easy to find this year — the school spirit and enthusiasm for learning was contagious! From our newly renovated Junior Kindergarten, through the Marian and Gerard hallways, and up and down the stairs of Pollock Hall the Riviera Ridge faculty and staff partnered with our students and families to continue the amazing growth and true joy of learning. Without our dedicated and passionate Riviera Ridge faculty and staff, the continued leadership of the Board of Trustees, and the enduring support of our parents and alumni, The Riviera Ridge School continues to thrive and excel as we head into our 85th year of celebrating academic excellence. We are so grateful to our loyal community for your commitment to the education, health, and happiness of our children.
With our 2022-2023 Annual Report, we are proud to be celebrating one of our signature programs, Kaleidoscope, celebrating the many faiths, family traditions, and world cultures studied across grade levels. Please join me in celebrating the Joy of our continued Journey as we honor our dedicated faculty, commitment to our core values, and ultimately raising children who are excited about learning and leading with a purpose beyond themselves. Thanks to our dedicated faculty and staff, and the commitment of our Riviera Ridge Families, the vision of our future is full of hope, love, and joy.
