First, the Board wants to express our gratitude to Sarah Lebherz, our CFO, and Max Smith, our Store Manager, for stepping into the roles of Interim Management Team for the last several months, and keeping the store safe AND thriving under extraordinary circumstances. Likewise, we are SO thankful to our amazing Staff, for adapting to new circumstances - sometimes every day - with conscientiousness, good cheer, and skill. So many aspects of operating a successful grocery store in these times were (and are) uncertain and risky, and these folks just kept on showing up, in a heroic and steadfast way. Our co-op and community are grateful. Next, the Board is delighted to welcome Román Diaz as our General Manager - we think he’s just terrific, and we know you’ll think so, too. He’s got lots of experience in the world of grocery-stores-with-values, he believes in building skills and encouraging talent in his crew, and he’s a heck of a nice guy. Thank you for joining us, Román!

And big cheers for our new 7th Street store! In these days of COVID and quarantine, some days I feel like the outside world is barely substantial; like it’s sort of a misty dreamscape. Well, some of the Board got a tour of the new store recently - and hey, it’s real! There’s about to be an actual grocery store there, full of produce and hot sauce and vegan popsicles and supplements and pet supplies and people smiling behind their masks. So much appreciation for all the folks who have worked, and are continuing to work, to make it real! Lastly, stay tuned for some new ways that the Board’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will be serving the community. This is all still in development, but among other things, you should look for some interesting speakers to be giving short talks at our virtual Board meetings, open to all Owners. I can’t say more than that yet, but we’ll keep you updated. I can’t wait to see you all at our shiny new 7th Street store and at our old beloved Route 85 store.

Yours in cooperation,

Annie Marshall, Vice President, The Common Market Board of Directors
