Parents weekends

1st workshop – A day as a child

2nd workshop – Impact of toys on academic and professional career

How did we from kindergarten “Dječji svijet” approach to processing to default theme? Our research had two stages. First, we organized parental meetings in all three branches of Kindergarten „Dječji svijet“ (Varaždin, Petrijanec, Beretinec). From the total number of parents, 180 of them responded. www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

First we explained the subject of our research to present parents. After that we shared a short questionnaire to them. Questions were: 1. Which is your career? 2. Which toy marked your childhood? 3. Do you think that toys you played with somehow influenced on choice of your career and to what extent? www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

Results: 1. Careers of parents : •engineers •teaching staff •health workers •administrativeworkers •salesmen •artistic occupations

www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

•office clerks •mechanics •caterers •ICT specialists •personal services

2. We noticed a difference based on age of parents. As toys which marked their childhood, older parents mostly indicated dolls and weapons (homemade swords, catapults). Also, those parents indicated games which they played with those toys (gathering of all children from the neighborhood and games of war, cowboys and Indians, sewing clothes for dolls, symbolic games with dolls). Younger parents mostly indicated dolls and Barbie dolls (mothers), as well as vehicles and constructional toys (fathers). www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

3. From the total number of 180 parents, 171 of them answered under b) They didn’t influence, and only 9 parents answered under c) I’m not sure.

In second stage of our research, we gave questionnaires to children and their parents. Questionnaires were made of two questions: 1. Which is your/your child’s favourite toy? 2. Acording to civilization and technological changes, in the future I would like to be/my child could be: a) job that exists today b) job that belongs to future jobs Results can be seen in following graphicons. www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

Conclusion Acording to results of this questionaire,as well as talking to present parents, we concluded that toy doesn't influence on making a choice of future academic and professional career. Choosing right career is a whole life process and it requires realistic picture of yourself, of your abilities, potentials and achievements. www.vrticdjecjisvijet.hr

3rd workshop – Inspiring movements

In February we held a second Tiny hands atelier. The task was to make different kind of instruments. We decided to combine that workshop with second Parents weekend workshop named “Inspiring movements. So we invited parents of our pupils to our kindergarten where they first made fun instruments together with their children and used them for play afterwards.
