The Narrative Essay

*What is a Narrative Essay? Narrative writing tells a story. In essays, the narrative writing could also be considered reflection or an exploration of the author's values told as a story. The author may remember his or her past, or a memorable person or event from that past, or even observe the present. The author may write about: –An experience or event from his or her past.–A recent or ongoing experience or event.–Something that happened to someone else, such as a parent or a grandparent.

*Revising your narrative essay:

After spending time away from the draft of your narrative essay, read through the essay and think about whether the writing effectively recreates the experience for your readers. Ask other people to read through the essay and offer their impressions. Identify where more details and descriptions are needed. Identify and consider removing any information that seems to distract from the focus and main narrative of the essay. Think about whether you've presented information in the most effective order.

*Prompts for your narrative essay:

1. A childhood event. Think of an experience when you learned something for the first time, or when you realized how important someone was for you. 2. Achieving a goal. Think about a particularly meaningful achievement in your life. This could be something as seemingly minor as achieving a good grade on a difficult assignment, or this could be something with more long–lasting effects, like getting the job you desired or getting into the best school to which you applied. 3. A failure. Think about a time when you did not perform as well as you had wanted. Focusing on an experience like this can result in rewarding reflections about the positive emerging from the negative. 4. A good or bad deed. Think about a time when you did or did not stand up for yourself or someone else in the face of adversity or challenge.

There's something about helping someone that brings immense joy to yourself and others. Whether it is complimenting someone, performing a kind act, or even saving someone's life, there are endless ways to be present for people who are in need of help. My dream is to carry on this feeling of joy into my life's work by being of assistance to others. Ever since my life was changed by an incident when I was eight years old, I have wanted to become a doctor so I could be there for people who need medical help. People ask me, "What made you want to be a doctor?" and I tell them it all started with this one story. When I was in fourth grade, I remember being so excited about who I wanted to be when I grew up because we had a guest speaker...show more content... You saved her life!" It felt as if those words had changed me forever. He saved her life! The little girl looked up at me with a smile before they took her away in a waiting car to see her mother. At that exact moment, I knew I wanted to help people who may be threatened with death, and maybe give them a second chance at life. Even as I tell this story now, I still remember each tiny detail as if it were just yesterday. I wished I could have helped this woman, but I was just a little kid and had no idea what to do. Watching my dad's valiant efforts to save her life provided a shining example to me of the importance of getting involved and making a difference in people's lives, especially to those who cannot help themselves. This event forever changed my perspective of life and prompted me to pursue a career that involves healing and helping others. I only hope that I can someday be a doctor and serve as a shining example to my own children, who may someday carry on this legacy of saving

A short sale can take up to six months to be approved, and I did not have time for that ,because, my existing lease had already expired on my rental home. I begin to work with a realtor who was also an investor. She had a lovely home for sale in a beautiful neighborhood. I extended an offer to her on the home, and she said that she would need to talk it over with her husband. She later contacted me to advise me that she had agreed to accept a cash offer on the home. I continued to look for the perfect home and was not having much success. I soon discovered that the realtor had a new house on the market in the same beautiful neighborhood. I contacted her right away and made an offer on the house. Once she accepted my offer we signed and faxed the contract to the bank right away. The realtor and I both agreed on a closing date which was 45 days from the date we signed the contract. At this point, it was time to make sure that we met all of underwriting guidelines. It was not only important for us to meet all of the bank stipulations but the actual house had to meet bank standards in order for the bank to approve the loan. Shortly, after faxing the contract over to the bank I was contacted by my loan processor, her name was Emily. She told me everything that I needed and I emailed Emily the requirements within 24 hours. The only thing that was pending to my knowledge was the appraisal on the house which I had Get more content

My name was all that I would let him say before I finished what I already knew he was going to say. "You're breaking up with me". And then I just turned and walked away as he called my name yet again but did nothing to catch up to me. I walked down the hallway by the counselors office in the B building where my group of friends usually hung around and exclaimed that he had just broken up with me. They offered me quick condolences before I walked to my bus and sat quietly till I got home. What then felt like a bitter goodbye eventually felt like a necessary sadness in order to obtain happiness.

Narrative Essays: To Tell a Story

There are four types of essays:

Exposition – gives information about various topics to the reader. Description – describes in detail characteristics and traits. Argument – convinces the reader by demonstrating the truth or falsity of a topic.

Narrative – tells a story, usually from one person's viewpoint. A narrative essay uses all the story elements– a beginning and ending, plot, characters, setting and climax – all coming together to complete the story.

Essential Elements of Narrative Essays

One memory that comes to mind belongs to a day of no particular importance. It was late in the fall in Merced, California on the playground of my old elementary school; an overcast day with the wind blowing strong. I stood on the blacktop, pulling my hoodie over my ears. The wind was causing miniature tornados; we called them "dirt devils", to swarm around me."

When I was younger, cooking came intrinsically with the holiday season, which made that time of year the prime occasion for me to unite with ounces and ounces of satin dark chocolate, various other messy and gooey ingredients, numerous cooking utensils, and the assistance of my mother to cook what would soon be an edible masterpiece. The most memorable of the holiday works of
