JÉRÉM I E M OREAU

To the pond near my house.

Thanks to Jean-Christophe and Marine for taking this story to new heights. Thanks to Olivier and Simon for their top-notch assistance. And thanks to Rubin, my faithful colorist.

NOTE TO READERS

Since this work was originally written in French by Jérémie Moreau, we have chosen—for graphic and aesthetic reasons—to retain the French onomatopoeia throughout the book. They are often quite close to their English equivalents and should not cause any issues in terms of comprehension.

The same applies to the characters’ names. For this adaptation, we chose to keep the original French names of the characters in the story.

It’s time to get back to Lymphoria, children.

Lethalyte!!!
Lethalyte!!!

Fight, little one!

Did you know these pebbles used to be giants?

They resisted for a long time, but the great current worked them over. It scratched, gnawed. Quietly, patiently.

A crack here, a crack there. And from a mountain, it made a grain of sand.

I saw where it is taking us.

All that’s left in the end is an immense void of sand. Lifeless. Terrifying.

The current will take everything if we allow it.

What’s your name?

I’m…
Alyte. My name is Alyte.

“You were born in the water. You had a fin, then you grew legs. One day, you emerged from the water and started walking.”

“I’m a toad?”

“You are not just any toad. You are a midwife toad. Your name, Alyte, means one who cannot be unbound. It’s a very beautiful name.”
