We are the Barbican Projects Team, here to keep you informed about the City of London Corporation’s (the City Corportation) two upcoming refurbishment projects within the Barbican Complex. The projects be undertaken by different teams within the City Corporation, but we will act as your point of contact for any questions or feedback you may have.

Upcoming Projects Exhibition Halls Mechanical and Electrical Remediation Work is set to commence to remediate mechanical and electrical services in the Exhibition Halls. The project team will strip out and replace the mechanical and electrical equipment, including high and low voltage electrical supplies. Furthermore, work will involve essential maintenance of water, cooling and heating systems.

The existing mechanical and electrical equipment requires replacement to meet modern environmental, safety and operational requirements.

This work is set to take place from Monday 12 July 2021.

Working times will be Monday - Friday, between 8am and 6pm.

Barbican Podium Phase Two Essential work is needed to replace the existing waterproofing membrane at the podium, which has deteriorated and is causing extensive leaks.

When refurbishing the podium surface, there is an opportunity to improve the existing landscaping. This project follows Phase One, which incorporated Beech Gardens.

The podium project will take place in the vicinity of Ben Jonson House, Frobisher Crescent, Breton and Cromwell High Walk.

Webinar 20 July, 6 pm Join our webinar on 20 July, where we will be presenting emerging plans relating to the Barbican Podium Phase 2 project.

Further details about work within Exhibition Halls: Most work will be contained to the Exhibition Halls, although the project will involve accessing a water valve in the car park underneath. Deliveries will come in through Exhibition Hall 2.

The project will involve the offloading of a new transformer on the cul-de-sac section of Golden Lane beyond the car park entrance. This section of road will be partially closed over two days whilst the transformer is installed.

Some noise may be heard due to work that involves cutting out sections of piping.

However, we will ensure mitigation measures are in place to lessen any potential disruption.
