Community and Sense of Belonging
This is the third and our last year MESA surveyed the sense of community and belonging through participants in MESA events and programs in addition to trying to have a better understanding if MESA events and programs have contributed to enhancing overall educational and cultural understanding, particularly from the lens of race and ethnicity. This year, we saw a drop in the number of responses to the survey as well as a lower percentage on all four key questions.
74.3% Agree that the MESA event/program they participated in fostered a sense of belonging regarding race and ethnicity at U-M.
83.3% Agree that the MESA event/program they participated in broadened their view on identities and cultural contribution on campus.
83.6% Agree that the MESA event/program they participated in increased their understanding of the community.
87.4% Agree that the MESA event/program reinforced the importance of DEI work to them and the roles MESA plays in our community respectively.
