CHAMBER CHALLENGE

It’s a game changer Late last fall, when the Chamber board was deciding on initiatives for 2014 and the best and most impactful ways to move forward, then board member, Scott Preston suggested a program loosely based off of reality tv’s “Restaurant Rescue.” We loved the idea and immediately started to gather the information on what such an undertaking would entail. It’s a lot. A whole lot. But, in our minds, the undertaking is worth the nitty-gritty details, projects and asks. Then, we had to identify a business who could use a boost. We thought it might be a tougher sell, until we approached Marijon Lococo, owner of the French Loaf Bakery. We asked complete transparency of her business practices and offered local expert help to offer services, products, time, talents. Lococo graciously, and dare I say, eagerly, accepted the challenge. When presented to our membership base as an opportunity to step forward and help another local business, again, we had members lining up. These members are offering their time, products, services, etc. free of charge. And, for the record, the Chamber has a zero budget for this and will make no money from it. Our goal is to demonstrate the resources we have when a member business is in need, and to be seen as a valuable community resource. Here’s what we have so far: Adept Marketing will build a new website; 2Shea Creative is doing design, logo and branding work; Infintech has analyzed the credit card processing currently in place; Shelby

Talk Derby to Me The Grandview Area Chamber is excited to present our 2nd Annual Premier Spring Event. Last year, the Spring Cha-Ching at the Hollywood Casino netted $2,000 which benefitted our Gregory A. Kidwell Scholarship Fund and the newly established, Joelle M. Khouzam Workforce Development Fund. This year, we’re keeping it local and raising the bar. This will be the best Kentucky Derby party in town! In partnership with Bar 145, located at 995 W. Fifth Avenue, we are hosting a Derby-themed party from 2 until 6:30 p.m. For $60 per person, each guest will get free valet parking, admission to the event, two premium drink

tickets, mouth-watering southern fare, a live Bluegrass band and door prizes throughout the event. We’ll have a contest for the most festive hat in the ladies division and best pastels/bowtie in the gents division. Did you just read something

about hats, pastels and bowties? Yes you did! We simply cannot have a Derby-themed party unless the ladies show up in hats and gentlemen come in pastels and bowties. It’s a must – no horsing around! Tickets to the event are limited so don’t wait to rsvp. You’ll do so online at www.grandviewchamber.org/events. Go to the event calendar and choose Talk Derby to Me on May 3, 2014. Tickets will be held for you at the door the day of the event. We also need great door prizes! If you wish to contribute a product, service, gift card, etc., please email Michelle Wilson at mwilson@grandviewchamber.org to make arrangements.

The third time’s a charm Recently, you should have received the 2014/15 Grandview Community Directory. It’s the third time we’ve produced a full-size, full-color community directory as an at-your-fingertips resource for all things Grandview, Marble Cliff and 5xNW areas. The first two editions were recognized nationally as the “Best Business Publication” for a community of our size. Impressive; even if we do say so ourselves! This edition should garner no less attention on the national level. The cover shot is colorful, and vibrantly eye-catching. It sets us apart from other community directories.
