Dream Big Grants

Range from $1,000 to $12,500 Full- or part-time employee regardless of tenure and committed to remain at Columbus Academy for the next academic year

Started by a Columbus Academy family in 2017 with a belief that a teacher benefits from the ability to “feed his/her soul,” these grants are intended to encourage personal growth that in turn provides professional growth in the applicant’s discipline and/or classroom. The number of these grants awarded varies but generally range from $2,500 to $6,000.

Milt Taylor Innovation Grants Range from $1,000 to $4,000

Full- or part-time employee regardless of tenure

In December of 2007, Milt Taylor ‘45 provided a gift of $1 million to set up an endowed fund from which the annual proceeds would be used “to reward and promote excellence in teaching.” Mr. Taylor’s belief was that any gift to a teacher was also a gift to all the students who learn from that teacher. The number of these grants awarded varies but generally is between 10-25 per year with an average of $2,000.

Hunker Family Fund Grants

One $1,500 grant for non-teaching staff Full-time staff member for at least three years, non-member of Admin or Leadership Teams and does not work with students as main part of job

Established by Mary and Erich Hunker ‘81 to recognize and honor those members of the non-teaching staff who enthusiastically support the faculty and students at the school through their everyday work. These are often employees of the school who are not always “seen” or known to the general community, but who help make CA the vibrant, well-funded, beautiful and safe campus it is today. This grant is awarded yearly.

Conferences, Seminars & Workshops Funds available to reimburse conference and travel expenses Information about professional development opportunities is posted in faculty lounges and via email. Written requests to attend a specific event should be made to the Division Head or Office Manager via email and should include a link to the event information, estimated costs for the trip and purpose for attending. Division Heads or Office Managers will discuss the details of reimbursable expenses and expectations regarding the trip. Substitute teacher costs are also covered by the school during this professional time away.

Tuition Assistance Colleges/Universities for Employee Education Columbus Academy strongly endorses the continuing education of its employees and has funds budgeted to help pay college and university tuition costs for courses related to and not directly related to one’s duties. The Leadership Team makes this determination based on the recommendation of the Division Head or Office Manager. This policy applies to all full-time employees. Part-time employees may also submit requests, but reimbursement may be limited due to fund availability. CHECK WITH YOUR DIVISION HEAD OR OFFICE MANAGER FOR MORE DETAILS ON PROPOSAL DUE DATES!
