Highlights of U li es and Engineering staff ac vi es during the 2014-2015 fiscal year
While we work hard to complete the tasks in front of us and look ahead to the many ini a ves that will improve our opera ons and management of the City of Columbia's wastewater system, it is important to look back and recognize how much we have already achieved. With comple on of the last two major pump sta on upgrades, the City completed all of the Early Ac on Projects required in the Consent Decree (CD). Addi onally, all seven of the first year deliverable deadlines were met, and the City is on track for mee ng future deadlines. The City is also moving forward with Supplemental Environmental Projects, having completed the ini al steps of working with key stakeholders to iden fy the specific projects that will be undertaken. From the Desk of the Wastewater Engineer As we embark on year three of the Clean Water 2020 program and the City’s second year a er the entry of the Consent Decree, I want to let you know that I could not be more proud of the extreme effort exerted by our staff. We have exceeded expecta ons and met every deadline outlined in the Consent Decree, including comple on of the Early Ac on Projects, approval of the Sewer Mapping Program, submi al of annual and quarterly reports, and submi al of the following programs: • Transmission System Opera ons & Maintenance Program (TSOMP) • Maintenance Management Systems Program • Con nuing Sewer Assessment Program (CSAP) • Satellite Sewer System Template Agreements Our con nued success, posi ve results to date, and on-going system improvements have driven our City Council approved wastewater CIP budget up to $80M for FY2015-16. Upcoming projects will include a new 30” force main from the Mill Creek Pump Sta on to the WWTP, replacement of the 24” Smith Branch ou all underneath I-277, improvements to Metro’s WWTP's digesters, mul ple capacity enhancement projects, several pump sta on rehabilita ons and improvements, system condi on assessments, and gravity sewer rehabilita on, just to name a few. The Compensa on and Classifica on study is complete and will soon be implemented, giving our City staff be er and more compe ve pay and clearer job descrip ons. Our WWTP and WWM Divisions will con nue our drive to becoming a world class u lity and being known as “the place everyone wants to work”.
