COVID-19 REMINDS US WHY INNOVATION IS OFTEN A PUBLIC GOOD While the US has a robust innovation pipeline and over a thousand institutions developing innovators and entrepreneurs, we don’t have similarly strong pathways for innovators creating public goods in areas like vaccine development or education technology. Our lack of innovation in many public goods has been laid bare this week. Vaccines, Internet access and education technology being prominent examples of products and services ALL Americans needed this week and weren’t readily available.

BILL GATES: RESPONDING TO COVID-19 AS A LONG TERM INVESTMENT In an article at The New England Journal of Medicine, Bill Gates argued why it is important to foster innovation to save lives while also improving the way we respond to outbreaks in the future. The world needs to accelerate work on treatments and vaccines for COVID-19 and invest in a system that can develop safe, effective vaccines and antivirals, get them approved and deliver billions of doses in a timely manner.
