What do you love about the Play-A-Thon?
love being able to play songs for the audience and watching my friends perform”
El Camino had its first assembly for SFGMC, The Gay Men's Chorus. SFGMC is an LGBTQ+ choir group, formed in 1978. They were the first openly queer choir to perform at the time, paving the way for other LGBTQ+ choirs to form. At the end of their performance they welcomed El Camino’s own student choir to perform along with them.
Interviewer: Kenneth Eusebio
Interviewee: Mitch Galli, Associate Director
Question 1: How does the SFGMC positively affect you?
“ It is one of the safest spaces I have ever been in, it is a space where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. We’ve had a lot of singers explore their own identities and gender in the bubble that is the chorus because they know its okay to try things be accepted for who they are; and I’ve never been in a space like that before. just the amount of love that I see that people give when they show up to rehearsal everyday its not just a thing its to build community, to build a family together whether its joyus occasions like someone getting engaged of getting a promotion or a new apartment, whatever it is, no matter how big or small our community is there to celebrate in those times and then there’s hard times when someone in their family passes away or if something awful happened in their life the chorus is there to be a shoulder they can cry on too.“

On October 22nd, Chinese Cultural Club hosted an Egg Tart Fundraiser. Let’s learn more about the cultural significance of egg tarts!
Interviewer: Hailey Magno
Interviewee: Darren Thieu Why are egg tarts significant to Chinese culture?
“Egg tarts are significant to Chinese culture because they represent the history of Hong Kong. They were a really popular dessert during the 1960s among the working class. They are also a staple of dim sum culture and represent Hong Kong as a unique melting pot as egg tarts are inspired by an English recipe.”

On November 5th, James Coleman, a Democratic candidate, secured a decisive victory in the South San Francisco 2024 City Council race for District 4, earning 66.7% of the vote against his opponent Avin M. Sharma. As a South City resident & Harvard alumni with a degree in Biology & Government, Coleman emphasized his dedication to public service by prioritizing public safety, affordable housing, education, & environmental protection.
Known for rejecting campaign contributions from corporations & private developers, Coleman´ s grassroot apporach resonated with voters, highlighting his commitment to a government that works for everyone, not just a select few. His win reflects a strong mandate to continue fostering inclusivity & sustainability in South San Francisco. Congratulationsonyour Congratulationsonyour victoryMayorJames victoryMayorJames Coleman&goodluck! Coleman&goodluck!
Throughout that span of 5 months, James Coleman´s re-election campaign for South City Council was a model of igniting a community together. Through this focus, Coleman & his campaign team spent countless hours canvassing neighborhoods, knocking on doors, & ran an extensive phone-banking operation via Zoom, contacting voters across South San Francisco to share his vision and priorities.
Ysabella Tolentino ´26- “I've always been passionate about politics & helping marginalized communities, so interning for James Coleman’s campaign, a leader endorsed by Planned Parenthood & committed to reproductive rights, climate change, & affordable housing, was incredibly meaningful. It was an honor to work with a mayor who sees the good in people & uses his platform to uplift the community, signifying the true purpose of politics, further deepening my passion for civil law & government. Through canvassing & phone banking, I gained valuable insights into South San Francisco's diverse political views and witnessed how much residents care about their city's future. A memorable moment was speaking with someone who didn't initially understand our mission but appreciated the chance to learn, utilizing my power to educate & be part of that change in SSF.”
Jasmine Saldivar´26- “It was an honor to work alongside James Coleman during his re-election campaign for City Council. This experience gave me firsthand insight into political processes and local government, deepening my passion for political science and reinforcing my commitment to making an impact in my community. This internship helped me see a clear path toward my goal of pursuing a career in law and civic leadership, and I thank James for that!”
Saoirse Price´26- “Before becoming an intern for James Coleman’s campaign, I wasn’t too familiar with the electoral process of city mayors, furthermore politics itself. This internship provided me with a first hand experience in politics, through supporting James in his campaign. Some of my favorite moments were participating in canvassing and phone banking, as it allowed me to connect with SSF residents on a personal level, regarding their political perspectives. This experience truly broadened and furthered my perspective on politics as a whole. I couldn’t be any more proud of our campaign’s outcome, most notably for being a major part of it”
Hi everyone! We are physical science club, a new and exciting science club here at El Camino. This year, we’ll be exploring 4 main subjects: chemistry, physics, astronomy, and biology (we know this isn’t necessarily a physical science, but its importance in scientific education is indisputable). Throughout the year, we’ll dive into hands-on experiments in each of these fields to deepen individual understanding and spark curiosity. Recently, we conducted a supersaturation lab experiment that illustrated the phenomena of crystal nucleation and deviation from system equilibrium. We invite all of you to join us for our next meeting, where we’ll explore the complexities of gene heredity! In the following issues, we aim to keep everyone informed about the latest developments in the world of science, showing how science is an ever-evolving force in our everyday lives.

On October 7, 2024, students at El Camino High School took part in California's firstever annual mock election, where they had the opportunity to vote for their preferred presidential candidate. After counting the votes, it was announced that Kamala Harris won the election for ECHS president with 56% of the student vote. This event was part of an effort to engage students in the democratic process and give them a chance to experience voting firsthand.
On November 6, 2024, Donald J. Trump was declared the winner of the U.S. presidential election, officially becoming the next president of the United States. Trump secured 312 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed for victory. In contrast, Kamala Harris fell short, earning 226 electoral votes. Trump's win marks the conclusion of a highly competitive election race. ECHS Mock Election : Donald J. Trump lost with 27.7% of votes. Actual Election : Donald J Trump won with 50.2% of votes
After comparing the results of El Camino High School’s mock election with the actual 2024 presidential election, there is a clear difference in who students at ECHS preferred versus the choice of voters in the broader U.S. election. 33
Many students at ECHS supported Kamala Harris as their ideal candidate, while the rest of the country ultimately chose Donald Trump as president, giving him the victory in the Electoral College. This contrast highlights how different groups of people can have different preferences when it comes to choosing a leader.
