A new year comes with a new batch of Colts that make up the El Camino High School Class of 2028. The new freshmen had their orientation on August 8, 2024, a few days before school started to familiarize themselves with their new peers along with getting a tour of their new campus that they will call home for their education for the next four years of their high school life.

How did you feel during Freshman Orientation and what are your thoughts on Link Crew?
“At first, I was very scared and nervous being in a new environment but once my Link Crew leaders introduced my orientation group, I had fun. I really enjoyed the welcoming and fun presence of my leaders.”

The Welcome Back Rally on August 23rd kicked off the school year with the theme of Class Olympics and excitement for Inside Out 2! Freshmen were welcomed into the small gym, while class leaders led the opening remarks. The rally featured a fun Masked Singer game, Sticky Pick-up game, and a series of relay races with various challenges. Along with the introduction of new staff members, students were able to showcase their school spirit through our traditional cheer chants!

Thank you to our wonderful MCs for bringing the energy to the first rally of the school year!

With the Class of 2025 now one step closer to graduation, it was time for some senior traditions, including Senior Sunrise! It was held on September 6th, 2024 atop Colt Field. Students were able to play football, make friendship bracelets, create senior crowns, and eat pastries! With hopes for seeing the sunrise, the usual marine layer once again brought cloud cover for most of the event, making another senior class have a senior “fogrise”. Despite that, many seniors enjoyed this tradition as they all spent time with one another either eating, activities. and playing around, Luis Ocampo ‘25

This school year, ECHS brought in a new form of counseling known as Peer Counselors!!

“My advice to students applying to college right now is that it is 100% ok if your plan for college isn’t concrete. There’s a reason for the option to be “Undecided” although you can still enter into a 4-year school. And the college application isn’t the hardest obstacle either, it’s getting started, submitting it, and getting through high school as you finish up strong on some of the most critical months of your life. This goes not just for those attending college, but those just aiming to graduate from El Camino and wanting a fresh start to reinvent themselves as they become adults and enter the workforce.”

To start homecoming week it was Freshman Day. Their sub-theme was MYSTERY. There were footprints and even some caution tape around. During lunch they performed an amazing skit on the red stage. Incredible job to the Freshmen for completing their first homecoming!

The Sophomore class’ sub-theme was Casino and with that they transformed the school into “El Casino”. They had many cards, dice, and even door posters for the teachers around the school. During lunch, they performed a spectacular skit featuring 6 celebrities; Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Elton John, and Elvis Presley
The Junior’s sub- theme was Deck Building. They had many Pokemon and Yugioh cards around the school. At lunch they performed a skit of two teams fighting in a trading card battle. The Juniors did an amazing job and worked very hard to make their day special.

Senior day was truly spectacular! Their subtheme was Classic and they brought us into Candyland. They showed off the characters all around the school and had a float which portrayed the Candy Castle. During lunch, they performed an incredible skit that truly felt like a musical. Marvelous job from the Seniors for showing off their school spirit!

The Student Athletes Program aims to create a welcoming environment that fosters the acceptance and inclusion of all people through sports. On October 17th, the Student Athletes Program received an official Special Olympics banner.

Interviewer: Hailey Magno

Interviewee: Mikayla Levene ‘25 (pictured on the right, founder of the ECHS Student Athletes Program)
What does it mean to receive a Special Olympics Banner?
“To receive a Special Olympics banner means that El Camino has been recognized for fostering an inclusive environment through Unified Sports. We have achieved all guidelines for Unified School, including Unified PE, Unified Sports, and students from Specialized Academic Instruction classes obtaining a leadership position, and have also participated in a basketball tournament with neighboring schools. To be a Unified Champion school under Special Olympics is to try your best at all times, form new relationships, and share smiles and laughs as a team regardless of people’s differences. “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt” - Special Olympics”

Attend El Caminos Fall Festival for a night full of fun fall festivities. It will be on Saturday, October 26th from 4-8PM at the ECHS campus! There will be carnival games, inflatables, balloon animals, trickor-treating, food trucks, a photo booth, and more! We hope to see you all there

ECHS Fashion Club collaborated with Cosmetology Club and Washington Highschools Fashion Club in working backstage at a professional fashion show. This experience allowed students to immerse themselves in the fastpaced environment of a professional fashion show, work closely with industry professionals, interact with trained models, and expand your network. It's a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of the field while at the same time being able to build connections with one another. Shoutout to all the amazing students who helped in this event!! 16

On October 6th, the Media Club and Fashion Club collaborated with @ddna.media for a picnic photoshoot field trip at Salesforce Park. Media Club members, alongside @ddna.media, captured photos of Fashion Club members for Fashion Club’s first ever magazine, which is currently in progress. This experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore the behind-thescenes process of creating fashion media, offering insights into the fields of media, photography, and fashion.
