PSALMOND ROAD RECREATION CENTER Socktober has begun. Ms. Shirley from Community Schools Division was the first to donate a new pair of socks. This year we are projecting to collect 400 pairs of new socks. Let’s get the word out to everyone you know. New socks can be taken to Psalmond Road Recreation Center during the hours of operation.

EDGEWOOD SENIOR CENTER

October 9th was National Cupcake Day and we decided to celebrate with a twist. We had pink cupcakes to show our support for those who are in the fight, won the fight and for those who lost the fight.

FOX SENIOR CENTER This past week the seniors and staff participated in the Annual Help the Hooch Cleanup Day. Everyone took a trash bag and gloves. We walked around the center grounds and picked up all the trash and lots and lots of tree limbs from the storm. We had more tree limbs in the yard then we did trash. Even with picking up trash, the seniors had a great time laughing and talking with each other. Each senior received a pencil and a temporary Tattoo. Ms. Ona had to put hers’ on and show it off.

The Sewing Ladies have finished their Veteran’s Day Project for RSVP. They sewed 55 Patriotic Lap Blankets for Columbus Hospice. Ms. Terry from Columbus Hospice came by on Friday to pick the blankets up and brought the seniors some fresh baked chocolate cookies.

FRANK CHESTER SENIOR CENTER As part of Keep Columbus Beautiful and Help the Hooch, our seniors put on their gloves, grabbed a trash bag, and headed outside. Once outside we started looking around the trashcans and under the bushes for any trash, they may have blown that way. We found lots of plastic bags, cans and a few bottles scattered around the park. We also went up nearer the playground and found a bit more trash left behind from people using the park. Our seniors love seeing the park clean and do not mind helping to keep our grounds clean.

We also had our Oktoberfest lunch this week. Several of our German members helped with cooking part of the meal. Staff decorated the tables with blue-checkered tablecloths and German flag centerpieces. Our meal consisted of Bratwurst, German potato Salad, Sauerkraut and Red Cabbage.

Rolls and various desserts finished off the meal. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the meal while we had some Oktoberfest music playing in the background. Once everyone finished that great meal, it was time to clear the table and get down to the business if playing the all-time favorite activity Bingo!

COOPER CREEK TENNIS CENTER Local Adult USTA Leagues Teams are now forming for all levels of player for the 2019 championship year! This fall, 18+ and 40+ age groups in 5 different levels will be competing for the local championship and a chance to represent Columbus in the state championships in the spring of 2019. The 18+ league plays the majority of their matches on Saturdays and the 40+ matches are contested on Sunday afternoons.

Corta Junior Fall School Team Tennis This is a tennis league for beginners, intermediate, and advanced elementary and middle school students ages 8-14 or grades 2nd - 8th. Matches are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 - 6:00 beginning on September 17 and tentatively ending on November 7. Teams consist of at least 4 players to play a team match that consists of two singles matches and one doubles match. There is a total of 45 teams registered in the boys and girls divisions combined. Good luck to all of the teams competing!

DROP IN

Drop-In Pickleball We currently host evening Pickleball learn to play, and fun play on Monday nights from 6:00pmdark, Tuesday mornings 9:00am-12:00pm and the 3rd Friday of every month from 5:00pm8:00pm.

The fee for pickleball sessions will be $3.00 for non-members of Cooper Creek and we will provide paddles and balls for those that need them.

All skill levels and ages from beginner to expert are welcome to come out and experience this fun, fast pace game!

Players are also welcome to set up their own play opportunities and to call to reserve a court when they are available by calling 706-317-4186.
