SUBJECTS COVERED STAGE 1 This stage covers: • Perfecting shampooing, head massage, blow drying and finishing with product • Styling techniques that include roller setting, plaiting, tonging, fingerwaves and pincurls • Chignon work and how to combine skills to personalise and produce the desired effect • Understanding head shape and bone structure • Learning how to conduct a full client consultation • Exploring the intricacies of client care • Hair science and theory led by a specialist technician INTRODUCTORY BASIC PRECISION CUTTING SKILLS ARE THEN INTRODUCED AND INCLUDE: • One length haircut design • Classic bob • Basic layering Participants are guided and monitored throughout all of their work sessions. Theory and practical assignments are given to guide and assess progress. At the end of each stage, students are given a one-to-one appraisal. STAGE 2 In this stage participants are introduced to principles and fundamentals of colour and given time to perfect the basics of cutting hair before moving on to more advanced techniques. This stage covers: • Continuation of one-length cut • Understanding colour formulas • Understanding colour charts • Classic tint application basic gradation shapes • Exploration of a variety of lengths • Round gradation • Variations of layering Work sessions are monitored to assess progress. STAGE 3 In this stage students will learn further classic cutting and coloring techniques and will be introduced to the basics of perming and highlighting. • Short hair looks • Contemporary shapes • Round and square layering • Basic perm techniques • Highlighting and foil work • Freehand tinting A mock cutting and coloring exam will take place at the end of this stage.

STAGE 4 In this stage greater emphasis is given to perfect work as a whole, producing strong clean finishes.

STAGE 5 The last stage is designed to give students the coaching and time to perfect the skills they have learned in a real life salon situation.

Basic men’s haircutting techniques are introduced. Participants will learn the differences between ladies and men’s cutting and further use of colour and perming techniques.

A cutting and overall exam is given in the last week and participants are marked on the models they complete. The students are then required to complete 12 weeks of work experience in a salon environment. Students are able to complete the full 12 weeks in one hairdressing salon or have the opportunity to complete work experience in a few different salons.

In the final last semester, the qualification concludes with a graduated final show and certificate ceremony where students are required to work together to produce stage presentations with a class finale. Our experts will guide students through theme identification, model calls, clothes styling, make-up, music and lighting to help them show the skills they have learned. Senior Colour Cosmetica staff, student’s family, friends, magazine journalists and potential employers attend graduate’s final shows.
