Friends of Historic Saugerties presents, for people interested in learning more about local history are most cordially invited to attend an informal talk by Marilou Abramshe entitled: LIFE IN A DUTCH COUNTRY TOWN.Using historical documents, we will delve into the life and times of the inhabitants of Wiltwyck to learn about the economics, government, culture, and attitudes of the Dutch in New Netherlands. An educator for over 30 years, Marilou Abramshe has led workshops teaching educators how to incorporate documents into the curriculum. She is the recipient of the 2001 New York State Education Department Bruce Dearstyne Annual Archives Award. She has given talks on various aspects of local history, developed a children’s informational booklet for the Ulster County Clerk’s Office entitled Exploring Ulster County, and collaborated in the development of a curriculum unit for grades 4 -7 on Dutch life in the 1600s.
