The first Special Edition issue for Color happened during a time when it seemed the magazine could do no wrong, and displays its ever-growing ambitions to take risks in tackling the subject of collaboration while utilizing one of our cultures most depended-on old traditions, mail. Dubbed "The Illustration Issue", the first order of business was to do what no man has done before: send an illustrator on a skateboard road-trip, taking up one of ten sacred seats in the van. There Ben Tour sat, both sides exposing the other to knew worlds of possibilities, sketching as the rest skated spots up and down the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile another project was well underway that included 225 serigraph prints, mailed out to artists around the world with a set of instructions to participate in a collaborative art exhibition that was then picked from to and selections were made to share with the readers of Color so that they may have access to inspiring imagery.
