On August 1, 2018, world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the first stop in a two-year journey that will bring Bach's complete solo cello suites to a limited number of locations on six continents. It is a journey motivated not only by the music’s significance in his life — it is among the very first he ever played — but also by Bach’s ability to speak universally. Yo-Yo Ma believes that at a moment when our world is challenged by the pace of change and the strain it can create, audiences old and new will find shared meaning in this music. He has said that when “Bach’s music touches us, it reconnects us to our common humanity.” Indeed, writing in the New Yorker in December, Alex Ross described Yo-Yo Ma’s performance of the suites at the Hollywood Bowl as "The loveliest experience of my listening year … it was as if music had stilled the world.”
Please Note: This performance does not include members of the Colorado Symphony and is a standalone showcase featuring Mr. Ma.
