Dr. Madeleine Jansen is a versatile violinist, arts advocate, and educator, lauded by the San Francisco Classical Voice for her interpretations of composers ranging from Dvořák to Brubeck. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Professor of Violin and Viola at Kansas State University, where she teaches violin, viola, chamber music, and string pedagogy.
As a soloist with orchestra, Jansen has performed in Carnegie Hall, the United Nations Headquarters (NYC), Capitol Hill’s performance hall, St. Peter's Church (NYC) and Flushing Town Hall (NYC). Her solo and chamber music appearances have brought her to North America, Europe, and Brazil, and she has collaborated with many of today’s leading concert artists, including Amit Peled, Elizabeth Pitcairn, Michelle Cann, and Katherine Needleman, among others. Recent performance highlights include performing Ralph Vaughn Williams’ The Lark Ascending with orchestras in Baltimore and Kansas, a solo recital at the Arts Club of Washington, and a recording project of contemporary chamber music by French composer Alexander Ouzounoff, to be released on the Klarthe Records label. As an arts leader, Jansen has led numerous projects dedicated to forging creative connections with audiences through meaningful community engagement.
Jansen is a passionate teacher who is committed to mentoring the next generation of musicians, and she has taught masterclasses at Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Oklahoma State University, Washburn University (KS), and the Corda International Music Festival (Sao, Paulo, Brazil). Prior to moving to Kansas, Madeleine taught a large private violin studio in New York City. Her former students have earned acceptance to the Manhattan School of Music and Juilliard pre-college divisions as well as the violin performance programs at San Francisco Conservatory, University of Michigan, Boston University, NYU, University of Maryland, Vanderbilt University, and others. In the summers, she serves on the violin faculty at Luzerne Music Center in Upstate New York.
Jansen studied at Boston University, Royal College of Music (London), and UMass Amherst, and most recently completed her doctorate at the University of Maryland, where her research focused on audience engagement.
