TOGETHER, WE ARE COLORADO PRESERVATION Since 1984, Colorado Preservation, Inc. (CPI) has diligently worked to make a difference in communities throughout the state. Energized around a central theme of “building a future with historic places,” CPI was founded by visionary leaders who identified a need for a statewide nonprofit organization structured around preserving, protecting, and promoting Colorado’s historic places. Historic preservation is much more than keeping “old” buildings standing; preservation is about creating a sense of place, enhancing communities, and revitalizing economies. Our organization promotes the critical connection between people and place. CPI works to ensure historic places across Colorado are protected and will be preserved for future generations. CPI advances its mission by partnering with property owners, non-profit organizations, educators, and local governments through its signature initiatives Colorado’s Most Endangered Places Program (EPP), its annual Saving Places® Conference, and its Dana Crawford & State Honor Awards. The Saving Places Conference is one of the many ways CPI advances historic preservation by bringing together individuals, organizations, communities, and projects from across the nation to discuss the latest in preservation, looking at common concerns and challenges while celebrating our collective accomplishments. For over 20 years, CPI has provided essential training and networking opportunities to individuals like YOU working to protect our state’s heritage.

SAVING PLACES CONFERENCE

For over 25 years, Colorado Preservation, Inc. has hosted the annual Saving Places® Conference, which brings together over 600 individuals from across the state and beyond. The conference brings critical training and networking opportunities to attendees. Sponsors have the opportunity to get in front of hundreds of senior level historic preservation professionals. Sponsors receive recognition as an industry leader and supporter to not only conference attendees but to all CPI supporters and public that receives Saving Places marketing material.

DANACRAWFORD&STATEHONORAWARD

Colorado Preservation, Inc.’s (CPI) annual Dana Crawford & State Honor Awards is Colorado’s premier statewide preservation awards event, honoring significant contributions toward preserving Colorado’s built and archaeological history as well as saving working landscapes. The evening’s namesake is Dana Crawford, a preservation pioneer who proved that saving historic buildings makes economic sense. She embodies the dedication to preservation that CPI celebrates each year at this event. CPI is grateful to Dana for her leadership and her work saving important landmarks statewide.

ENDANGERED PLACES PROGRAM

Colorado’s Most Endangered Places Program serves as a catalyst for historic preservation in communities across Colorado. The Program accomplishes this in several ways, through listing a site as “Endangered,” and then working to create and implement a long-term preservation plan that directly address the threats and opportunities of each site. Through the media, CPI network and CPI partnerships, CPI is able to reach a broader audience and not only tell the story of these unique sites throughout Colorado, but also spread the benefits of the importance and benefits of historic preservation.

ON THE ROAD

Join CPI and local preservationists for On the Road, an event that takes participants onsite to a community in the state rich with heritage and culture. The On the Road component of the Saving Places® Conference offers attendees a unique experience to learn from local community members and tour rarely seen historic sites, learning of the traditions and challenges specific to the community visited. On the Road takes place over two days and offers educational sessions, behind-the-scenes tours and a Taste of (insert locale) featuring local eateries and artisans in a historic space.
