Ready to hit the trails?
Let’s make sure you’re dressed right so you stay dry and comfy out there Here’s the scoop on the best fabrics to pack and wear:
1. Merino Wool
This stuff is amazing. It’s breathable, wicks moisture, and even keeps you warm when it’s wet Plus, it’s odor-resistant no funky smells after a long hike!
2. Synthetic Fabrics
Think polyester or nylon. They’re lightweight, quick-drying, and perfect for keeping sweat at bay Just avoid cotton it holds onto water and takes forever to dry.
3. Blends
A mix of Merino wool and synthetics gives you the best of both worlds: moisture-wicking and temperature control in one.
4. Gore-Tex/Waterproof Shells
For rainy hikes, a Gore-Tex shell is key. It keeps you dry while letting sweat escape That’s it! Now go enjoy the outdoors, and remember I’m always up for a hike with you. Happy trails!

PREREQUISITES
Why Do Some Courses Have Prerequisites?
Courses with prerequisites at Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) are designed for participants who are practicing higher-level skills that require a solid foundation in related disciplines These prerequisites are essential for ensuring the safety and success of all participants and instructors during these advanced courses The experience or training required helps maintain the integrity of the learning environment and allows for a focus on more complex skills
Two Examples of Waivers to Meet Course Requirements:
OVERVIEW: WTS is offered every spring and fall, consisting of five mandatory lectures and five mandatory field days. Topics include clothing, nutrition, navigation by map and compass, snow travel (including ice axe use and selfarrest), avalanche awareness, mountain weather, and basic survival skills.
REQUIREMENTS: Participants must demonstrate equivalent experience or training in these skills to be eligible for a waiver. This process allows experienced CMC members to earn a Wilderness Trekking Skill badge, acknowledging their competencies without needing to complete the entire WTS course
LEARN MORE
OVERVIEW: This is not a refresher course Participants must demonstrate proficiency in all the skills covered in the Basic Climbing class. It is crucial to arrive at 6 PM if you do not have a climbing partner enrolled with you
PURPOSE: The waiver is designed for experienced climbers who have not taken CMC's Basic Climbing course. By successfully completing the waiver, participants can skip the Basic Climbing class and gain access to more advanced climbing courses and participate in CMC Top-Rope Climbing Trips.

ONLINE LEARNING
Why Do Many Courses Include Online Components?
At the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC), we recognize that our members have diverse needs and preferences when it comes to learning. That's why we offer online components for many of our courses. Here are the top three reasons we include these digital course elements:
ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL
We understand that not everyone can attend in-person classes due to location, time constraints, or other commitments. By offering online components, we ensure that our courses are accessible to all members, regardless of where they are This flexibility allows more people to participate in our educational programs and gain the skills they need to enjoy the outdoors safely and confidently.
SELF-PACED LEARNING
Everyone learns at their own pace. With online components, students can absorb the material at a speed that works best for them. Whether you prefer to take your time reviewing complex topics or need to revisit a lesson before moving on, our online modules give you the freedom to learn in a way that suits your individual learning style.
EMBRACING YOUR STYLE OF LEARNING
People learn in different ways, and our online components are designed to cater to various learning styles. We incorporate a variety of content formats, including videos, matching games, quizzes, and interactive exercises, to keep learning engaging and effective This variety ensures that all participants can find a method that resonates with them, making the learning process more enjoyable and impactful.
