Wadley Farms site is ringed by city, but not incorporated By Corrie Sahling csahling@coloradocommunitymedia.com “Moratorium” was a word on the mind of many members of the public at the Thornton City Council meeting on Nov. 17. About 40 people stood and spoke to the city council for over two hours on Tuesday night. While a handful of those people were in support of oil and gas production, the majority were asking the council for a moratorium on oil and gas development in Wadley Farms —meaning a delay of activity in the proposed Synergy Corp. development in the neighborhood

that is surrounded by — but not part of — Thornton. Synergy, a domestic oil and natural gas exploration and production company, has proposed an oil and gas “fracking” site on land that is in the middle of an unincorporated Adams County neighborhood, Wadley Farms. The neighborhood is surrounded on all four sides by the city of Thornton and the proposed drilling site is about 1,000 feet away from a middle school. Speakers who addressed the council came from both inside and outside city limits. The proposal for the drilling site is in its beginning stages, but residents of the neighborhood and of Thornton have been

Thornton • City of Thornton offices will be closed on Nov. 26 and 27 to observe the Thanksgiving Holiday. Thornton offices will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, Nov. 30. • The Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center and Thornton Community Center will be closed Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving, and will reopen with normal business hours on Friday, Nov. 27. The Thornton Senior Center will be closed both Thursday and Friday. Thorncreek Golf Course will be closed on Thursday but will open for normal business hours on Friday (weather permitting). • Thanksgiving week, Thursday and Friday trash/recycle customers will have a one day delay in service. All other trash/ recycle customers are on a normal schedule with no delay in service. Westminster • All city facilities are closed on Thursday, Nov. 26. Standley Lake will be closed to drive-in traffic, but free parking lots will remain open for park usage. • Libraries and the Westminster Sports Center are closed.
