Open house outlines rail project Northglenn, Thornton join RTD in hosting event By Corrie Sahling csahling@coloradocommunitymedia.com Denver Union Station and downtown access will be a short 24-minute rail ride away for residents near 112th Avenue in Northglenn and Thornton starting in 2018. On Nov. 12, both cities and RTD hosted an open house for the public to learn more about the project and to express questions, concerns or improvements they’d like to see done to the area. Chatter could be heard in the hallway leading to the meeting, as residents were eager to speak to city employees about the
project. “Now that people see it’s a reality, they are excited,” said Karen Widomski, senior policy analyst for the City of Thornton. “I mean, who doesn’t want to get on a train instead of sitting on I-25?” Larry Hoy, who is a member of the RTD board of directors and represents parts of Thornton and all of Northglenn, said that this project is his baby. “This is the FasTracks project that really brings this north,” Hoy said. For the most part, Hoy said that residents are excited, but there have been a few complaints about the construction process. “We’re in the thick of construction right Project continues on Page 3
