Curiosity never retires

Curiosity never retires. And that’s why so many older adults are now back in class — decades after graduating — thanks to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Denver.

“OLLI has been around now for 25 years in the Denver metro,” said Jacqueline Wyant, executive director of OLLI at DU. “Not only are we the best kept secret in town, offering the most affordable continuing education on seven convenient campuses, our senior students, or OLLI members, don’t do homework, there are no pop quizzes and the only grades they get are A’s for effort.”

A CliffsNotes rundown of OLLI OLLI at DU is an adult learning membership program designed for inquiring adults, age 50 and better, who wish to pursue lifelong learning in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere, states OLLI’s website. Thanks to the generosity of The Bernard Osher Foundation and many community grants, the classes are affordable. OLLI at DU joins a network of more than 120 institutes nationwide that are helping mature learners fi nd personal fulfi llment.

“Basically, OLLI at DU offers members more than 170 different classes to choose from, spread out over three, eight-week terms — fall, winter and spring. OLLI members may elect to learn online or in-person. And our teachers are just as fascinating as the array of subjects we offer,” Wyant said.

Think peers teaching peers. The teachers, also known as facilita-

tors, may be former school faculty members, community and civic leaders, independent scholars and even retired professionals such as doctors or lawyers. Essentially anyone who has a deep passion and knowledge about a hobby, skill or topic is welcome to teach a class, provided that OLLI standards are met.

OLLI members come from all walks of life, but everyone has the same common three goals: to stay engaged, stay active and make positive connections.

“I’m a retired lawyer and I was looking for something to keep the synapses clicking,” said OLLI member Larry Bass. “I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I have to tell you the teachers were very wellprepared, and it’s been a worthwhile experience.”

The cornucopia of classes OLLI offers is ample — history, music, political science, writing, literature, philosophy, science, sports, religion, global issues, public affairs, fi lm classes, nuclear power and bridge classes. There are even courses on sex and intimacy.

“I think anybody, and I mean anybody, can fi nd a class at OLLI they’ll enjoy,” said OLLI member Suzy McKeever.

OLLI students may choose from four different memberships. The annual membership — only available in the fall — costs $400 per year and offers unlimited inperson and online courses during the fall, winter and spring terms, provided space is available. A one-term membership costs $140 for unlimited courses online and in-person, with the same space caveat. There may be additional costs for required class materials.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute woos older adults back to class

To learn more about OLLI or to apply, visit universitycollege.du.edu/ olli. The winter course catalog will be available on the website.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s OLLI’s winter term begins on Jan. 9. The course catalog will be posted on Nov. 14, which is when registration opens.

In addition to offering online classes, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute serves the entire metro area through several locations:

OLLI CENTRAL Ruffatto Hall on the University of Denver campus, 1999 E. Evans Ave. First Universalist Church, 4101 E. Hampden Ave. in Denver.

“We also offer an introductory membership for fi rst time students (at) $50 per class,” Wyant said. “Lastly, we offer a facilitator membership. OLLI facilitators are unpaid volunteers who are given access to the complete catalog of courses and webinars, and pay no term membership fee.”

Wyant highly recommends the individual workshops and webinars — which cost $15 each — to supplement an education or stay active between terms. She added there is an upcoming webinar on infl uential women that features wonderful speakers.

‘Do the math’ McKeever said anyone who still needs convincing should “do the math.”

“The price is fantastic,” McKeever said. “I sign up for the term membership and usually take three or four classes at a time. I mean, how can you beat it?”

OLLI memberships also include opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, such as trips to museums, wine and cheese socials and theater nights. OLLI also offers a slew of clubs — hiking and photography, for example — to encourage deeper connections outside of class.

“OLLI did an amazing job pivoting during the pandemic by transitioning to all online classes,” said OLLI facilitator Paul Simon.

Today, however, more and more people are attending in person, he added.

“Just to be able to keep learning and expand your mind is just so rewarding,” Simon said.

OLLI members are also rewarded with discounts at DU and area restaurants.

“My favorite part? I love OLLI just for the joy of learning and being with people my own age,” Wyant said.

And — there’s no homework.

Health Insurance: You’ve got decisions to make

With rates going up and open enrollment around the corner, shouldn’t choosing the right insurance agent and the right insurance plan, be at the top of your priority list? Words like dependable, economical, and secure come to mind as priorities.

Debra Salmans, owner of Imagine Choice, has been selling insurance for the past 22 years. In her opinion, shopping plans that have the option to be underwritten, such as United Healthcare private plans have the best choices for coverage that fit her client’s needs as well as their budget.

“Prior to opening my business as a licensed Insurance Agent, I was in human resources management for many years, advising employees on how to best care for themselves and their families. During my professional career, my number one aspiration has always been to provide the greatest possible aid to those planning for their future. I look forward to providing my clients with personal service and assistance. People make important decisions every day and choosing health, dental, vision, and life insurance certainly should be one of them” Debra said.

Her mission is to “protect customers from financial hardship due to unforeseen illness or injury. We

help provide peace of mind through the financial protection afforded by our insurance coverage” Deb added, “Our vision is to build the premier insurance organization in America, committed to delivering unparalleled value and service to our customers.”

Because everyone’s needs are different, Debra believes insurance coverage should be flexible enough to fit individual lifestyles and budgets, yet dependable enough to cover unexpected medical expenses.

“We want to be the customers’ company of choice, whether they are individuals, families, owners of small businesses, or employees. Through our licensed life, health, dental, and vision insurance companies, we offer quality coverage to policy holders, including health care coverage tailored to fit their needs and their budget,” Debra said.

“Your insurance decision is a personal choice. We believe in choice, and we believe our customers truly value the array of options we provide. This allows them to choose value over being captive by price. Our innovative line of coverages helps our customers avoid paying for coverage they don’t want or need,” she mentioned.

Mapleton Public Schools

When Ti any Dragoo, director of Global Leadership Academy in Mapleton Public Schools, joined the school in 2015, one of her goals was to have an enrollment waiting list. at seemed a bit lofty at the time. GLA was a PreK-12, and she remembers having only one class each for fth and sixth grade, when she thought a healthy enrollment would have called for at least two.

“I want our school to be the place where families bring their kids,’” she said.

Seven years later, she may achieve that goal. Now a high school, GLA is about at capacity for freshman and sophomores.

eir junior class is growing, and for the rst time, seniors are transferring in, enough to warrant a second senior cohort. In each of the last couple years, GLA’s enrollment has increased by a third.

“We’re so happy we’re lling up and things feel like they’re clicking,” Dragoo said.

e picture is similar across the district. Mapleton’s overall enrollment has trended slightly upward for the last decade at a time when so many other districts’ enrollment around Colorado and the country is fading.

e o cial results of October Count won’t be known for another month, but administrators are expecting at least 120 more students than the year before. More than a third of all students

come from outside the district. Parents, students, and sta point a few factors as to why.

National and International Accreditation

Last year Mapleton received national and international accreditation from the Cognia Global Commission, a nonpro t, non-partisan organization that conducts external reviews of school systems across the globe. Districts can receive accreditation in multiple ways. Cognia’s accreditation process focuses on instruction and the structures essential for improvement and complements the Colorado Department of Education’s accreditation process.

During the Cognia accreditation review process, representatives from Cognia met with the Board of Education, district leadership teams, school leaders, teachers, students, and parents to evaluate how well Mapleton compared to a set of rigorous, research-based standards that Cognia uses to evaluate systems.

e result of this engagement review earned Mapleton the one of the highest accreditation scores in Cognia history!

Cognia assigns numerical scores for all systems using an Index of Education Quality score that ranges from 100 to 400. e recent average score for other districts working with Cognia is 280 points. Mapleton received an IEQ score of 356.45!

Project LIFT

Project LIFT, which stands for Leveraging Instruction for Transformation, is Mapleton’s bold partnership with the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leaders in Education that is supporting each school in re ning conditions for student success. e work of Project LIFT is elevating Mapleton’s practices in four key areas: Leadership, Support and Accountability, Talent Management, and Instructional Infrastructure – the same structures Cognia identi es as being essential for school improvement.

To students and families, Project LIFT shows up in meaningful instructional resources and support structures, simple and e ective improvement strategies tailored to the needs of each student, high expectations, a balanced system of assessments, and data-driven instruction.

For teachers, Project LIFT is improving achievement through two school-based support structures: Instructional Design Teams and Instructional Leadership Teams. Instructional Design Teams support a culture of learning by helping teachers focus on rigor, relevance, collaborative planning, and responsiveness. Instructional Leadership Teams help to monitor student learning through a balanced system of assessments. ese teams assist teachers in looking at the student data to identify gaps in learning and make a plan to assure no student

falls through the cracks.

4A Mill Levy Override

From safe schools to school choice, Mapleton’s Board of Education responded to the concerns and requests of the community by placing a $9 million Mill Levy Override on the November ballot. e board voted unanimously in favor of the measure in August. e mill levy prioritizes school safety and security improvements, including mental health support, competitive pay for teachers and sta , career and technical opportunities for students, and building maintenance and replacements.

“We listened to our community, we heard their concerns as well as their desires,” said Board President Cynthia Croisant. “ is is an important next step to continue to improve the safety at all of our buildings and enhance our learning environments for all children.”

e Mill Levy Override would also replace the nal four school buildings that are more than 60 years, including Achieve Academy (formerly Bertha Heid), Meadow Community School, York International School, and expanding the Explore PreK-8 campus to include additional classrooms for preschool through eighth grades.

Search Beyond the Headlines to Find What’s Right for Your Child

Looking for good news about the state of your child’s education? It’s hard to find these days, but parents need hope now more than ever. Recently, the U.S. Department of Education released new data showing that two decades of progress in math

and reading were erased. Two decades.

Families need to know how schools are addressing this lost learning and preparing students for the future. They need good information and ways to support their child because they are not giving up the frontrow seat to their child’s

education that came with the pandemic. Data offer an important way for families to understand how schools are supporting students. For over 20 years, GreatSchools. org has translated education data into actionable information for parents nationwide. We collect and analyze data from

1College preparedness:

For 5 years, GreatSchools has celebrated schools with the College Success Award recognizing public high schools that excel at preparing students for college. With this data-driven award, we have been able to connect high school and college success to award high schools doing a great job at preparing all students to walk out the door on graduation day ready to take on higher learning. This year, we are celebrating 1,742 high schools from 25 states -- each of which earn a special badge on their GreatSchools profile to easily identify winning schools.

2Advanced course o erings: Access to advanced academic courses in high school provide an opportunity for students to earn free college credits while gaining exposure to the intense academics they will experience in college. Parents can now view Advanced Placement (AP) course lists on GreatSchools.org school profiles and, in turn, support their child to take advantage of this rigorous academic program.

3Community perspectives: Who better to tell you about a school than your fellow community members with firsthand experience? Five Advantages to Attending a Small Middle and High School

Schools are becoming larger and larger. Average school enrollment has risen by ve times since 1940. High school enrollments in many Colorado public schools exceed 2000 students. is movement toward larger schools has been justi ed by a desire for “e ciency.” But the perceived nancial bene ts come at a cost – a cost to academic achievement, social behavioral well-being, levels of extracurricular participation, and dropout rates. Renaissance’s Head of School, Amy Stuart, shares insights into the bene ts of a small school environment.

1. Students learn more in small schools and are more prepared for college

Students learn more in small schools than in large schools; this disparity is greater in middle and high schools. Students at small schools are also more likely to graduate, and small schools better prepare students for college entrance and success.

is bene t to small schools is likely because small schools are able to personalize learning to meet the needs of individual students. Teachers at small schools are better able to know the academic strengths and weaknesses of each student and tailor instruction to meet their needs.

2. Students are safer and feel safer at small schools

Compared to larger schools, students in smaller schools ght less, feel safer, come to school more frequently, and report being more attached to their school.

e National Center on Education Statistics reported marked di erences

in reports of incidents of ghting and violence in small schools. Small schools report fewer ghts (U.S. Department of Education) and have lower incidences of negative social behavior than do large schools.

3. Small schools foster a greater sense of belonging

Students in a small high school experience an increasingly more positive attitude toward school.

Research consistently reveals that in small schools, students feel they can connect with one another much more readily and openly, and also with caring adults whom they know personally. A small school develops its own, unique culture of belonging and achievement, o ering a greater sense of relationship connectedness and opportunity among virtually all stakeholders, such as are implicit in small organizations and communities (Cotton, 2006).

Head of School Amy Stuart shares what that means at Renaissance.

“We often hear from students and parents that Renaissance is a welcoming community. We know that a sense of belonging is extremely important developmentally for middle and high school students. e teachers here know your name, who your siblings are, what extracurricular activities you enjoy, and perhaps most importantly, what you’re capable of. ere’s little opportunity to sell yourself short when your teachers know you well, and push you to grow and learn to your fullest potential.”

Researchers have found that small schools create communities where students are “known, encouraged, and supported,” and have increased teacher-student connection. “Students at large schools are more prone to be alienated from their peers or engage

in risky behavior” (Nathan & ao, 2001). Smaller learning environments reduce both student and teacher alienation commonly identi ed in larger school systems, and enhance student engagement in learning. Several studies suggest that students in small high schools have a greater “sense of belonging” than those in larger schools.

4. Small schools foster citizenship, leadership, and social emotional skills through increased student engagement

Students at small schools are more engaged in their school community and in service to their communities, and they generally have more opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, allowing them to build leadership skills.

Extracurricular participation is signi cantly higher in small schools. Studies suggest that students in the

large schools were more polarized, with a group of active participants at one end of the continuum and a large group of students who did not participate in any extracurricular activities at the other. In small schools, there are fewer students who do not participate in anything.

5. Teachers at small schools have higher job satisfaction

Teachers at small schools report higher levels of satisfaction with their jobs because they felt more connected to each other and to their students.

Why does teacher satisfaction matter? Because a teacher who is excited about teaching results in “students [who] are more likely to be interested, energetic, curious, and excited about learning.” (Patrick, A., 2007)

STEM School Highlands Ranch: We Speak Innovation

STEM School Highlands Ranch is a FREE, public charter school in Highlands Ranch that is located in Douglas County, and is the agship school of the KOSON Network of Schools.

Since our inception in 2011, we have set innovation standards and led the way in pushing the boundaries of what students can achieve. Our mission of Never Stop Innovating is in everything we do. We push the limits to continuously improve and achieve new heights. Don’t just take our word for it. Let our students tell you and show you what they can achieve.

“STEM Schol Highlands Ranch has taught me not only about theoretical concepts that you would typically learn in class but also a lot about myself as a learner, as someone who is a creative and always looking at ways to improve society for the better,” said Gitanjali Rao, a STEM senior and the rst-ever TIME Magazine Kid of the Year.

Rao joined STEM in middle school and has accomplished amazing things, including being an inventor, author, patent holder, and more.

“You never nd yourself feeling bored,” Rao said. “You never nd yourself with repetitive content in front of you. You always have this opportunity to learn within the classroom or even outside of one. You are never alone at STEM. Regardless of what you’re interested in, what opportunities you have, there’s always a friend, there’s always another group of people, there’s always another class, and there’s always a teacher waiting to help you out and make you grow.”

While we serve students in kindergarten through 12th grade inside our main school building, our campus has an innovative approach to learning that exceeds our classroom walls. Students utilize all areas of the building, including our play elds, playgrounds, and parking lots, to explore, learn and innovate.

OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL

Our innovative instructional approach, called the KOSON ProblemBased Learning Model, is what we call our secret sauce. It is what inspires our students and our sta every day.

What is it? It is Problem-Based Learning done the KOSON way. at means it is a teaching methodology where learning is student-centered and driven by relevant, realworld problems. roughout their instruction, students learn about a problem, ask questions, research, brainstorm solutions, test, analyze and take action, all while learning the state standards.

Students access background knowledge and investigate standards, which are aligned concepts that might

help solve the problem. Our KOSON Instructional Model encourages peer collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, all while learning responsible use of technology.

CAREER DISCOVERY

Working with industry leaders through our Career Discovery Program, students nd new ways to collaborate and seek new solutions. Students are in the driver’s seat of their education through meaningful learning opportunities that allow them to constantly seek new answers and push themselves even further.

e Career Discovery program is the rst of its kind for students in Colorado. e program aims to leverage the power of collaboration between STEM students (K-12) and industry professionals to forge pathways of discovery and nurture unlimited human potential. ese connections allow students to learn alongside experts as they solve realworld problems, explore their personal interests, and build relationships that can potentially lead to an internship/ apprenticeship or full- or part-time job placement after graduation and during college.

Part of our Career Discovery Program is opportunities for High School students to push past the limitations of their grade and age to experience real-world scenarios through internships and career pathways that will set them up for unlimited success. We are one of only a few schools in the state of Colorado approved as a P-TECH School (Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools). STEM currently o ers Robotics and Automation (formerly mechatronics) and Cybersecurity pathways, and is on the path to adding additional pathways next year. e current pathways allow students to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Robotics and Automation degree or an Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity from Arapahoe Community College.

Additionally, students at STEM can take advantage of the Innovative Learning Opportunities Pilot Program (ILOP), which enables us to o er students in 9-12 grade a variety of learning experiences designed to enrich student’s education and support them in successfully transitioning from high school to postsecondary education and/or the workforce. is means that students who complete an internship can receive internship credits on their transcripts for college.

CURRICULUM AND ACADEMICS

In addition to integrated, problem-based learning across all STEM subjects, the school o ers rigorous humanities courses, arts, world languages, as well as theater and music programs that were selected as one of the most innovative by the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

Elementary School students are provided with a rigorous and relevant core education that taps into the innate curiosity of each student while integrating essential STEM skills and concepts within literacy, mathematics, social studies and science. Our classrooms come alive with relevant, problem-based learning where 21st Century Skills are embedded through the use of technology, critical thinking, and collaboration to engage the heads, hearts and hands of students in authentic and real-world issues. All elementary students will participate in specials classes that include art, music, physical education, technology, engineering, and world language.

High School students are challenged to develop the essential soft skills necessary to be productive and valued members of the 21st Century workforce. We o er a variety of technology and computer science classes focused on programming in a variety of languages, creative applications like 3D animation/ modeling and designing, and building games. Additionally, our students can earn industry-level IT certi cates by taking classes in A+, Net+, and Security+. In our engineering labs, students ne-tune their problemsolving and creative skills as they take classes in manufacturing, robotics, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), digital electronics, and transportation technologies.

We also o er a myriad of Advanced Placement classes, as well as the most Concurrent Enrollment (CE) o erings in Douglas County, enabling students to take classes both on and o -campus for college credit, while still enrolled in High School. e success does not stop there, as 98% of our seniors applied and were accepted to two-year and

four-year Colleges and Universities following the 2021-22 school year.

The importance of educating the whole child

Doing what we love, and loving what we do – especially who we do it with and for – our students and families! American Academy is a charter public school (no tuition), serving Kindergarten through eighth grade students at three Douglas County campus locations, and children ages 3-5 at our private pre-schools (KindiePrep). We deliver a solid academic foundation using Core Knowledge curriculum and a STEAM emphasis (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) in a climate of support and student-teacher connectedness. We teach the whole child, addressing social-emotional wellbeing and growth along with academic achievement, and meeting each student at their own level of readiness. We teach character and manners so students can connect successfully with the world. And we focus on STEAM so we can tie the challenges and skills of science and technology to the creativity of the arts while providing a wide range of opportunities for students to explore diverse interests and passions.

A Solid Foundation

At American Academy, we use the Core Knowledge curriculum to build a sequenced, common foundation of history, world civilizations, geography, art, culture, and music. Our language arts and math curriculums complement Core Knowledge perfectly, developing those skills in an incremental and sequential manner to ensure long-term retention and deeper understanding. Our daily science curriculum and proprietary STEM curriculum (STEM Discovery Weeks and Engineering Academy) are designed to meet Next Generation Science Standards. We round out each day with a regular rotation of art, music, technology, and physical education classes.

A Challenge for Every Child

We know that not all students start at the same level, learn in the same way, or master skills at the same pace. To meet every child at their individual level of readiness, American Academy uses exible ability grouping. Ability groups allow our teachers to challenge each student with concepts and skills appropriate to their level of readiness while also requiring them to grow and master new ones. To form an accurate picture of whole student readiness, we assess students in several ways in multiple subjects throughout the school year and combine that information

with teacher and learning support sta insight. Students move between ability groups over the years as we work to meet their individual needs for support and challenge.

Building Character

e American Academy Character program highlights those character traits which lead to truthfulness, academic and personal excellence, and consideration for others. We teach and encourage American Academy Manners in order to support those character traits and to help students put them into action. ese character traits and manners are implemented, modeled, and repeated in and out of the classroom at every opportunity, every single day. e result is a school culture of kindness, respect, and personal responsibility, and a body of students who are able to engage positively and productively with others at school and beyond.

A STEAM Emphasis

Our school-day STEAM curriculum instructs students in core subjects, teamwork, critical thinking, and problemsolving. It also provides students with a safe space to try, fail and learn to persevere. Our extensive extracurricular STEAM programming is divided into two major areas of concentration — STEM and Performing Arts — and provides students with a wide range of exciting opportunities to explore! All students are encouraged to try new things in both concentrations and many programs intentionally connect across these areas of concentration. Some examples of STEAM extracurriculars include acting techniques, instrumental classes, band and orchestra, choir, theater tech, visual arts clubs, school musicals, Robotics Competition, computer-aided design club, yearbook, broadcasting club, music theory, dance, engineering certi cation, and performing arts certi cation. American Academy also o ers several optional out of state STEM trips, where the learning truly becomes “hands-on”. We are always looking for new ways to challenge and inspire our students with STEAM!

COLLEGE 2030: New study finds key insights into how college is changing

BRANDPOINT CONTENT

As a new academic school term begins for colleges and universities nationwide, many students and faculty are thinking about how to respond to the changes caused by the pandemic as they settle into their first true “post-pandemic” school year. Research from Barnes and Noble Educa-

1THE VALUE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Rising tuition costs and student loan debt have made many question the value of higher education, however, one-third of the students surveyed (33%) said the value of college has actually increased. The majority of students seeing increased value were community college students, graduate or professional students and students 25 years or older. One reason can be attributed to class format, which has pivoted in response to the

2CAREER

PREPAREDNESS

The perceived value of higher education is strongly connected to career preparation. When asked, 73% of students said they feel prepared for the industry/field they’re pursuing. However, students also wanted more

3THE STATE OF STUDENT LOANS

While tuition rates remained steady during the pandemic, rising inflation and the end of federal stimulus funding will likely increase costs, impacting students’ ability to pay. According to the survey, just under half of students (47%) had student loans, and of that half, 53% were forced to apply for additional loans due to the pandemic.

tion reveals insights into how education institutions are adapting. The study called “College 2030 — Emerging from the Pandemic: Reimagining Higher Education,” explores changes and visions for the future of higher education by surveying over 2,500 U.S. students, faculty and administrators regarding five areas: the value of higher education, career preparedness, student

loans, mental health, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

“This study provides a snapshot of higher education at an inflection point,” said BNED CEO Michael Huseby. “These insights are not only indicative of how higher education is evolving, but can help educational institutions respond more effectively as they set goals for the future.”

pandemic. Nearly half the students (49%) said they preferred a hybrid format, while more than half of faculty (54%) favored a fully in-person environment. This di erence poses a challenge for institutions.

“Over the next decade, institutions need to continue listening to students by creating personalized learning experiences based on their needs,” said Huseby. “This can be achieved by giving students choices between a

variety of class types — in-person, remote and hybrid.” Hybrid/online learning can provide better access and equity for students of all ages and backgrounds. To further help students have equitable access, Barnes & Noble College (BNC) has created First Day Complete, a program providing all required course materials (digital and physical) to all students before the first day of class, bundling costs as part of their tuition.

school support with networking (46%), resume help (43%) and mentors (38%).

“Institutions need to better connect students with the business community,” advised Huseby. “They can do that

4SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH

Many institutions saw spikes in student mental health concerns throughout the pandemic. While over half of students (53%) and faculty (58%) say mental health has improved since returning to campus, 28% of students and 21% of faculty noted that mental health has declined, indicating that the transition itself caused challenges, including a lack of

5FOSTERING DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

Schools could benefit from proactively seeking feedback from students and faculty on DEI efforts, and by educating everyone on DEI issues. Only 35% of students indicated they had been asked for feedback on DEI efforts, while 58% of faculty indicated they had been asked for input.

by building strong networking opportunities with businesses, assessing employers’ requirements and tailoring curriculum to develop a clear path between college and career.”

preparation to be back in person. While on-campus mental health support continues to be crucial, a majority of students and faculty are not using available mental health resources. And although 81% of students and 92% of faculty indicated they knew their school o ered mental health resources, only 20% said they have used them.

“Through the next decade, it will be crucial to ensure schools are not just asking for faculty feedback, but are also listening to their students,” said Huseby. “Ensuring student needs are met helps build an inclusive campus that provides mental health support, plus the financial, career and life services students need to succeed.”
