Memorial held for champion road racer Gwen Inglis remembered by cycling community BY BOB WOOLEY BWOOLEY@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Mourners, teammates and friends gathered in Green Mountain, May 18, to grieve, share memories and pay tribute to cyclist Gwen Inglis, who was killed two days earlier in a collision with an automobile. A white “ghost bike” placed near the spot of the accident was quickly surrounded by bouquets of fresh cut flowers and messages of love. Stories were told and tears were shed under an ominous, gray sky fitting to the occasion. Inglis was the defending 45-49 road race national champion. Inglis’ husband and fellow competitive cyclist, Michael Inglis, spoke of her with a smile. He had ridden to the memorial on the tandem bike he and his wife had shared. “I can’t describe what our family and friends are going through right now,” he said. “She had that sparkle and zest for life that everyone looks for in a spouse.” Selfless, amazing, giving and loving are just a few of the words he used to describe the wife he’d lost less than 48 hours before.
