Golden gets into the spirit of the holidays Parades and much more planned this December

By Christy Steadman csteadman@coloradocommunitymedia.com Parades, carolers and Santa Claus are coming to town. Golden knows how to spread some holiday cheer, and a number of activities will get everyone in the spirit of the season this December. The parades are an all-time favorite, said Jenifer Doane, community marketing manager for the City of Golden. They offer people an opportunity to see an “authentic, hometown holiday parade,” she said. The parades take place on three different Saturdays, and each one will be

different and unique. “You’ll get a different experience each time,” Doane said. “You never know who is going to be in the parade.” But no matter, all the parades will have really fun characters. And they’re local, Doane added. “It makes it special that way.” The parades will feature local businesses, musicians and other acts, including bagpipers and the “Nutcracker” characters played by actors of the Miners Alley Playhouse. “The parades represent Golden,” said Dave Shuey, who is on the board of directors for the Golden Visitors Center and chairperson for Visit Golden.

WHAT ARE THE TRACTION LAW AND THE PASSENGER VEHICLE CHAIN LAW? The State of Colorado can implement two laws if weather conditions are severe enough. When either law is in effect, highway signage will be activated. Traction Law: Motorists must have snow tires or tires with mud/snow designation on the vehicle, or a four-wheel drive vehicle. All tires must have a minimum of a one-eighth-inch tread. Passenger Vehicle Chain Law: Every vehicle on the roadway must have chains or an alternative traction device, such as AutoSock. When the laws are in effect, a motorist without the proper equipment can be cited and fined $130. If the vehicle blocks the roadway or causes an accident when the laws are in effect, the motorist could be fined more than $650.
