“Amazing.” That word was how Englewood High School alumni Jenna Pacheco described the Pirates Sept. 25 homecoming activities. “We came to visit family this week when I found out about homecoming,” the 1998 graduate said. “It is my first homecoming since graduation, and it really turned out to be very, very special.” She said the parade was about the same as it was in ‘98, when she marched with the band. She did say some of the floats were pretty cool. The activities switched to Englewood High School Stadium as the sun was going down and the Pirates were preparing to play Elizabeth. Pacheco said she was touched by the pregame ceremony honoring 1992 EHS graduate Sean Renfro, who became a police officer and was killed in the line of duty earlier this year. Members of the coaching staff and administration met with Renfro’s family at midfield and presented them with a framed No.77 jersey, which is the number Renfro wore playing for the Pirates. Englewood City Council candidate forum set League of Women Voters hosts Oct. 7 event By Tom Munds tmunds@coloradocommunitymedia. com Residents have the opportunity to hear where city council candidates stand on a variety of issues during the Oct. 7 forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Arapahoe and Douglas

Counties. The forum will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the community room on the second floor of the Englewood Civic Center at 1000 Englewood Parkway. The event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission. “The forum will follow the standard procedures,” Marilu Bagnall, league member, said. “League members will moderate the event, and members of the audience can submit questions for the candidates by writing

them on cards distributed at the event. The moderator will review the questions and ask as many of them as time allows. All candidates will have the opportunity to answer each question.” Englewood voters will elect four members to the city council in November. Seats include a representative from District 1, a representative from District 3 and two at-large representatives. Three of the seats will be filled by new members. Incumbents Mayor Randy Penn and coun-

cil member Jill Wilson decided not to seek another term on the council, and council member Bob McCaslin could not seek reelection because of term limits. The fourth incumbent, District 1 council member Joe Jefferson, is seeking re-election and is unopposed. Three candidates are running for the District 3 position: Laurette Barrentine, Lewis Fowler and John Grazulis. Forum continues on Page 12
