The deadline to turn in signatures on the petition to recall Castle Rock District 2 Councilmember Mark Heath came and went May 13 with nothing being turned in to the town clerk. Petitioners needed to collect 162 signatures in 60 days to move forward. Three residents — Thomas Curtis, Shawn Levan and Jeff VanderWal — were approved to circulate petitions to recall Heath from District 2, which includes Metzler Ranch, Diamond Ridge and Sapphire Pointe. Claims made Heath in the petition dealt with budget approvals; failure to support Citizens Petition 2016B, which gives citizens the right to vote on annexations of five or more acres; and putting a time limit on public input at town council meetings. Heath was first elected in 2012 and is up for re-election in November. Recalls still in progress Two other recall petitions, however, have moved forward. A mail-in ballot election on the recall of District 1 Councilmember and Mayor Paul Donahue has been set for July 26.
