School growing, adding grade levels Castle Rock Christian aims for character, caring By Shanna Fortier sfortier@coloradocommunitymedia.com Two at a time, students at Castle Rock Christian Academy walked into the center of a circle Monday morning and made statements like, “I am a child of God” and “I am loved.” The circle of students and faculty responded as one: “Yes, you are.” The mindset behind the activity — called the “I am” circle — is that God has created everyone in his image, a belief that should be spoken. “As we speak it out, we start to

believe it,” said principal Torrence Jackson. “Too many times in life we believe lies about who we are, but God’s truth is that he has made you beautiful and you are loved by him.” This weekly Monday school assembly was about getting students to understand their identity. “We want to raise leaders,” Jackson said. “We want kids to get firm in their foundation of who they are.” Castle Rock Christian Academy — which changed its name this year from The Rock Christian Academy — is in its eighth school year and growing. It is the only Christian grade school in Castle Rock and one of five in

Douglas County. “As a Christian school, we believe God has called us to impact all of our community,” Jackson said. “We wanted our name to reflect that. We want to embody the heart of God for this community.” In addition to changing its name, the school added a sixthgrade class. The school plans to add seventh grade for 2016-17 and eighth grade the following year. This expansion will make the academy the third Christian school in the county offering preschool through eighth grade. There are no building expansions planned, but there are hopes of high school grades in Academy continues on Page 32
