During the first timeout of the second quarter, a jumbotron at the Oct. 30 Denver Nuggets game showed a
Newton Middle School teacher to the crowd, recognizing her hard work and dedication to students. The professional basketball team awarded Sara Cosenza, a sixth-grade language arts teacher, its “Most Valuable Teacher” award for the month of October. The team’s award program, in partnership with Ford, will recognize six Colorado teachers this season for going above and beyond to support their students and empower youth in

their communities. “It felt … extremely surreal” to win the award, Cosenza said. “I just was really grateful.” As the award-winner, Cosenza and her family were invited to attend the Nuggets game on Oct. 30, where she was publicly recognized. In addition, she received $1,500 to go toward her classroom, and a classroom visit from the team’s mascot, Rocky. SEE TEACHER, P12
