Denise Kudla Memorial Fund Donates Over $8,000
Funds were given to local performing arts, acting, and children foundations By CAMILLE DeVAUL camille@pasoroblespress.com
PASO ROBLES — Denise Kudla was a wonderful individual who loved life and showed everyone how to love. In 2019, Denise Kudla passed away in a horrible automobile accident. There was a Celebration of Life event for Denise and her family at the Cabernet Links and RV Resort on Nov. 2, 2019, where over 1,500 people attended. Funds were raised at the event to support some of Denise’s favorite programs. Unfortunately, the distribution of funds was delayed when the COVID pandemic made its appearance. Finally, the money raised in Denise’s name has been distributed to their rightful places: • Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation - $3,000 • Boys and Girls Club in Paso Robles - $3,000 • Wine Country Theater $2,000

safe and secure overnight shelters in Atascadero and Paso Robles. “The community amazes us each time; this is our 10th annual long walk home, and just by looking at the numbers and the people, I would guess that 200 to 300 people came out to support the community that we are serving, so it was pretty amazing,” said Wendy Lewis the Executive Director of ECHO. Participants walked from ECHO Atascadero, located on Atascadero Ave., to the Rotunda building in Sunken Gardens off of El Camino Real, where the traditional group photo was taken CONTINUED ON PAGE A15

PASO ROBLES — On Sept. 16, the annual Ladies Luncheon was held honoring Paso Robles Pioneer Royalty and ladies of the North County. This year’s luncheon was held at the Estrella Warbirds Museum, “Celebrating 91 years of the Pioneer Spirit.” All lady royalty and family were invited to the luncheon. When Pioneer Day was first celebrated on Oct. 12, 1931, many traditions were born for Paso Robles. One being the Pioneer Day Royalty. Queens, Marshals, and Belles are chosen based on their family’s lineage or connection to Paso Robles’ history. This year’s Pioneer Day Queen Irene Marquart was accompanied by her daughters Nancy Marquart Otto and Lucille Marquart Milani. Irene and her family moved to the Creston area from Arkansas

H.6. Approve Consultant Agreements: Education Services Retirees Dr. Patrick Sayne and Mr. Tom Apkarian have agreed to provide consulting and coordinating services for the District. Specifically, the consultants will provide services and duties to include attendance at meetings requiring an administrator to be present such as IEPs, general campus supervision and attendance at events if needed, observance of classes, and review of course descriptions and teacher-submitted syllabi. The consultants will assist with these and other duties as appropriate. Agreements are not to exceed $6,500 each. Trustee Chris Bausch issued concern over re-hiring Dr. Sayne, a former PRJUSD superintendent, due to a letter in a local news source he co-signed against some of the trustees. Superintendent Curt Dubost responded, saying, “I do not believe a position that a person takes in a political election should preclude them for a position at a later date. I don’t see the connection.” Trustee Tim Gearhart said, “I have mixed personal feelings about the gentleman [Dr. Sayne], but he is honest. He has integrity and a heck of a lot of wisdom that we can take advantage of.” The board of trustees decided to pass item H6 with a 6-0 vote, with Lance Gannon absent from the meeting. Item H.7. Approve New Job Description: Account Tech II was tabled for the next school board meeting. The board accepted several donations with a 6-0 vote: 1. Wonderful Company Foundation donation of $500 to Paso Robles High School.
