General Store: ‘Poppy in the Wild’ Book Signing

One of the joys of running a shop that highlights local goods is when your makers (or, in this case, writers) receive some really big love. We’ve seen it with our pals at Life Elements, whose CBD bath bombs and healing salves have been feted everywhere from Refinery29 to Newsweek. (More on their new mushroom packaging below.)

So when local author and lawyer Teresa Rhyne had people falling in love with her latest book, POPPY IN THE WILD, we could not have been happier. Releasing a book during Covid had unique challenges, and we weren’t able to toast Teresa and Poppy like we wanted since we weren’t holding events. Thankfully, the release of her book in paperback gives us a chance to set that right.

After losing her beloved beagle Daphne to lymphoma, Teresa Rhyne launched herself into fostering other dogs in need, including Poppy, a small, frightened beagle rescued from the China dog meat trade. The elation of rescue quickly turned to hysteria when Poppy broke free from a potential adopter during a torrential thunderstorm and disappeared into a rugged, mountainous, 1,500-acre wilderness park, bordered by a busy road.

As Teresa explains, “I wrote POPPY IN THE WILD in large part because I wanted to get the word out on what to do, and just as importantly, not do if your dog gets lost. My favorite reader responses are the ones where the tips helped another lost dog.”
