Attendees of a past Paso Wine Fest enjoy themselves during the festivities. The Wine Fest returns this year at a new venue, the Paso Robles Event Center

The Paso Wine Fest is back this year, bigger and better than ever. Not only will the Wine Fest take place at a new venue for its 40th year, but 100 iconic wines will be poured by Paso’s favorite wineries.
“The thing we’re super excited about is, we’ve got 100 wineries to sign up, which is a record high for us. We’ve never had 100,” said Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance (PRWCA) Executive Director Joel Peterson.
This year, the Paso Wine Fest’s Grand Tasting will be held at the Paso Robles Event Center on Saturday, May 21, from 12 to 4 p.m. instead of the Paso Robles Park, which has been its home for the last 39 years.
“We’re super stoked,” Joel said. “It’s been in the park for almost 38-39 years, and we’re moving it over to the event center. We felt it was time to have a little bigger space and let downtown be the amazing place it is.”
While the Fest had to be canceled in 2020, and PRWCA decided against planning a Fest in 2021, the Paso Wine Fest this year is making a triumphant return, with 10 food trucks, a Makers Market, three bands, and endlessly flowing wine. Tickets to the event include a $10 food voucher and a commemorative glass.
“It’s going to be the fun kind of festival atmosphere that the Event Center provides,” Joel continued. “Most people have either been to Beer Festival there, or the Rotary Cook-Off there, or the [Mid-State] Fair. It’s a great festival atmosphere down there. Especially now, you can easily find parking across the street.”
Two educational winemaker seminars will start off the festivities on May 21. One will be about “The Cabernet Icons of Paso Robles,” while the other is called “You Are What You Drink” and features organic, biodynamic, and Regenerative Organic Certification vineyards. Wineries participating in the seminars include Austin Hope, Castoro Cellars, DAOU Family Estates, Eberle Winery, Giornata, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery, My Favorite Neighbor, Robert Hall Winery, Tablas Creek Vineyard, and Villa Creek Cellars.
“The cool thing about that is you get there at 10 [a.m.], you sit down, you’re inside,” Joel said. “You go through this really cool hour and a half winemaker seminar, and then you’re let out right into... at 12 noon, we open the gates for the Grand Tasting. So you can make a whole day of it.”
Though the Grand Tasting will occur at the Paso Robles Event Center on May 21, the Wine Fest kicks off on Thursday, May 19, with winemaker dinners at Thomas Hill Organics and The Hatch. And on Friday, May 20, the new Sparkling Paso sparkling wine tasting will take place at Paris Valley Road Estate Winery. Another new event, the Paso Starry Night Dinner, will happen at the Paso Robles Event Center on Friday night.
