Heidi’s Cafe: Celebrating 5 Years
By Christianna Marks
The Figueroa family — (from left) Maria, Alex, and Heidi — this month are celebrating five years of owning and operating Heidi’s Cafe
Tucked into a strip mall next to Wells Fargo Bank on the corner of Spring and 6th streets is Heidi’s Cafe. The Mexican/American hybrid restaurant is family-owned and operated by the Figueroas, a family that has been a part of Central Coast for the last 30 years.
This month, Heidi’s Cafe is celebrating five years of business in Paso Robles, which is made even more fitting because it’s the birth month of owner Alex Figueroa’s oldest daughter, and the cafe’s namesake, Heidi. The family gives credit to the support they’ve received from the community for keeping them in business.
“All their [the communities] support on the hard days that we had back in COVID — we appreciate all the help and support, and now we want to celebrate staying five years in business,” said owner Alex Figueroa.
On top of Heidi’s Cafe serving breakfast all day, they’ve also just started opening for dinner Tuesday through Saturday and serving up a different special each night of the week.
“We were doing only 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., so now we are pretty much, in May, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.,” added Alex, who has over 25 years of restaurant experience.
The only difference in the family-run restaurant’s schedule is that it is only open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays and is closed every Monday.
“Working as a family, we’re really comfortable in the environment,” Heidi Figueroa said. “We treat our customers like they’re a part of the family as well. We have a lot of customers who love to come in, and we just give them a hug as a ‘hi.’ A warming welcome. And surrounded by the whole family, it’s literally like another home for us.”
There’s a warmth when you step in the doors of Heidi’s Cafe. It feels like you’re walking into a friend’s kitchen, where you can try the best breakfast burritos in town or their signature crepes filled with fresh fruit and topped with a sweet drizzle.
“My dad [Alex] is the cook, my mom [Maria] and I are waitresses, and my sister [Evolet] cleans tables sometimes,” said Heidi. “The whole family is involved.”
Heidi said that partnering with to-go apps like DoorDash helped the business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The community has stood by Heidi’s Cafe and made it possible for them to continue to thrive in Paso Robles.
“They were the ones who helped us make it through COVID mostly,” said Heidi of people who use to-go apps.
Alex, Maria, Heidi, and Evolet want to thank the community for helping them reach five years of business.
In May, you can catch these specials: $2 tacos on Tuesdays nights, $3 off any burger on Wednesday nights, $3 off any burrito on Thursday nights, and $3 off all seafood dishes on Friday nights. And $3 tacos and beers all day on Cinco de Mayo. And one complimentary mimosa with breakfast for all moms on Mother’s Day!
