City Council approves $3.4M pickleball complex for Sherwood Park
Saturday, Nov. 16. Created by Paso Robles Main Street Association Executive Director Norma Moye, this cherished tradition marks the beginning of Paso’s Christmas Story celebrations.
Elegant Evening invites downtown merchants to stay open late, welcoming shoppers and setting the stage for the festive season. Many stores offered food and wine pairings to enhance the shopping experience, while elaborate holiday
decorations added charm and cheer to the stroll-worthy streets.
Part of the tradition of Elegant Evening is the live mannequin displays in partnership with the North County Dance & Performing Arts Foundation. Sitting still like mannequins in downtown store windows were beautiful ballerinas posed in costume, which drew a lot of attention on Saturday night. Families paused to take photos of and with the ballerinas, marvel-
ing and sometimes shocked when they realized they were, in fact, alive.
Kario Adams, Kaliska Morales, and Neelan Adams strolled the sidewalks around the merchants to promote “The Nutcracker.” All three wore handmade costumes that they wore in the production.

New courts, restrooms, and parking slated for completion in early 2026 Max Pflum will also have one of his adopted cats in Woods calendar for second year

PASO ROBLES — A new pickleball court complex is coming to Sherwood Park after Paso Robles City Council approved the complex with a 4-1 vote during the Tuesday, Nov. 19, City Council meeting. The court initially began design back in 2021 and during the June 4 City Council meeting, staff was approved to bid the project with an estimated $3.4 million budget.

ATASCADERO — For the second year in a row, local Max Pflum has raised money for Woods Humane Society and gotten his cats, which he adopted from Wood’s Atascadero shelter, in their calendar twice. The 11-yearold is the youngest person to raise enough donations for the shelter during their Woods Pets of the Year Calendar Contest, and can now proudly say that both of his cats will be featured inside.
“It makes me feel like I have done something very important and that I supported a good cause,” Pflum said about donating to Woods in their efforts to find animals homes.
This year, Pflum raised around $950 for the nonprofit that pairs residents with their perfect cat or dog. In the meantime, Woods takes care of the animals in a loving environment until they find and can go home with their new owners. It was seeing Woods’ work first hand that made Pflum want to start raising donations for them.
“The animals don’t have homes, and they need care while they find one. I also appreciate Woods because of
what they do to care for the animals,” he added.
The youngster has adopted two cats from Woods, a 3-year-old tuxedo cat named Olly and a 1-year-old lynxpoint Siamese named Belle.
“Two years in a row, Max raised enough votes on his contest page through his own efforts to become one of the top ten entries in the contest. He has had both of his cats featured as a calendar pet,” said Woods’ Communi-
cation Manager Jamie Relth.
Belle will be featured in the 2025 calendar, while Olly was featured in this year’s pages. Pflum was at Woods’ Wiggle Waggle Fall Festival on Oct. 26 to unveil Belle’s glamour shot.
“The annual Pets of the Year Calendar Contest celebrates the human-animal bond while raising funds to help more pets in need,” added Relth on how the calendar is created. “Contestants submit a photo of their pet and reach out to friends and family to vote for their photo on their contest webpage. Contestants earn a ‘vote’ with every one-dollar donation made to their contest page, and the 10 top fundraisers win a featured spread in the calendar, four printed calendars, and will be a featured pet of the month in 2025 in a Woods social media post, email and website post. All contest participants who raise $25 or more win a print calendar and their pet’s picture on a collage page in the calendar.”
The entire Woods team has been inspired by Pflum and everything he has done for the shelter and the animals in it, and they’ve loved seeing his drive and his success in raising donations because of it.
“It is so moving to see a young person with such a generous spirit and heart for service taking initiative and making a difference for dogs and cats. We couldn’t do the work we do for thousands of pets per year

“I like looking at the dancers in the windows, and when they recognize you, they smile even brighter,” Kaliska tells Paso Robles Press about why she loves coming to Elegant Evening.
Neelan, who just recently turned 18 years old, will be playing an aunt in the family scene for her eighth year performing in The Nutcracker.
“It’s the first time I got to do Elegant Evening, but it’s really fun to be able to walk around and just talk to everybody and tell them about it,” added Neelan.

The final design of the complex includes seven lighted courts, a new restroom and storage building, barbeque and picnic tables, two large shade structures, a new Sherwood Park parking lot, and multiple mandated landscaped stormwater detention basins.
Due to a raise in labor and material costs, along with design changes, the project went from its originally estimated $1.2 million cost to now an estimated $3.4 million.
The current design allows for the future construction of the baseball complex and lighted soccer fields depicted in the Sherwood Park Area Master Plan. Construction is scheduled for 15 months with completion in the first quarter of 2026.

The additional funds will be redirected from the South Vine Street Bridge Project to the pickleball complex at Sherwood Park.
Councilman Chris Bausch had some disagreements with using funds from another project to pay for the pickleball courts.

She added, “The display in the store was just kind of inspired by whatever feels magical to me in that moment. This year, I was just thinking about stars and silver and made a little forest, and here we are.”
Miller explains her displays tend to be out of the box for a typical Christmas display, but they always express a magical aesthetic.
As for the night of Elegant Evening, she says, “There’s a lot of people, and that’s amazing. It’s always fun to meet everybody from the community. It’s the start of the holiday season.”

Ultimately, the pickleball court for Sherwood Park was approved with a 4-1 vote, with Bausch dissenting. Earlier in the meeting, council approved moving forward with the 2025 Community Development Block Grant Program and the Draft Annual Action Plan. The grant will support local initiatives, including a $132,022 crosswalk project at Parkview/Airport Road and public service programs totaling $47,583, with $30,467 allocated for funding.
Funding requests submitted include:
• El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO): $15,233
• CAPSLO: $15,234
• 5 Cities Homeless Coalition (5CHC): $17,150
However, council only approved funding for ECHO and CAPSLO. The plan also allocated $14,218 to administration, with public hearings scheduled for March 2025. The plan

will be brought forward to City Council again for approval at a future date.
The council also unanimously approved the acceptance of a Ford Transit 350 van for the Paso Robles City Library donated by the Paso Robles Library Foundation, with the assistance of the Friends of the Paso Robles Library. The van will be used for the purposes of supporting the library’s outreach services programming as a bookmobile.
Also, moving forward, the council unanimously approved changing their regular meeting start time from 6:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The new start time will be implemented for the first meeting in January 2025.
The council approved adjustments to landfill tipping fees, set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2025. The changes include higher rates for compacted refuse and tire disposal, while the transfer ton rate will decrease to stay competitive. According to a staff report, these adjustments are needed to cover operational costs, infrastructure upgrades,
and regulatory compliance for the city’s landfill, which operates as a standalone enterprise fund. The measure passed 4-1, with Bausch dissenting. Additionally, the council approved initiating the Proposition 218 process for a proposed solid waste rate adjustment from Paso Robles Waste & Recycle, the city’s waste hauler since 1957.
The proposed rate changes include an 11.96 percent increase in residential and commercial service rates and a 33.9 percent hike for roll-off services in the first year, with annual adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index from 2026 to 2029. These changes are designed to address rising operational costs, including labor, equipment, fuel, and disposal expenses.
The motion passed unanimously, and the new rates are set to take effect in 2025 after a public notification period, protest process, and hearing.

CALIFORNIA — As part of a months long investigation known as Operation Tractor Pull, California law
The investigation began in March when the county’s Ag Crimes Unit detectives learned about a backhoe that was stolen near Delano. Days later, the stolen vehicle recovery system, known as LoJack, alerted detectives that the missing backhoe was at a truck stop
As part of the investigation, authorities late last month served six separate search warrants in Los Banos, Hollister, Riverdale and Lindsay. Detectives recovered more stolen equipment and phones, surveillance cameras and $46,000 cash. Drugs and guns were also recovered.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the operation on
“We have to do our job and ensure that we can arrest individuals like this to ensure they’re not out stealing from our farmers, making things cost more and making it almost impossible for our farmers and ranchers and those in the agriculture industry to do their jobs,” Zanoni added.
Tulare County farmer Zack Stuller, who grows citrus, persimmons, and other tree crops, said his new $150,000
“They knew what they were doing,” Stuller said. “They knew how to start the backhoe. They had a key to start it and knew the default factory pass code and knew how to remove the tracker, so this wasn’t random.”
Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Ag Crimes Unit Sgt. Joe Armstrong said many thieves know how to disable tracking systems, so it is important to find ways to keep them hidden. The suspects in the large-scale theft, he said, took every effort to remove any factory-installed GPS tracking system.
Because thieves are familiar with the equipment, Armstrong said he recommends farmers “harden their targets” by strengthening security measures. It is not always convenient for farmers to move large equipment out of the field, but he suggests they store equipment in a fenced, locked yard and, install lighting security cameras, and “get a big, mean dog.” Farmers are also reminded to apply for an Owner-Applied Number, or OAN, to put identifying markings on equipment and property so that recovered property can be traced and returned. Must Charities invests $326,000 collaboration with Paso Robles Youth Arts Center
Must! Charities embarks on a $326,000 collaboration with Paso Robles Youth Arts Center (PRYAC) to invest in students, staff, safety, and technology. Investing today in staff, staff benefits, and safety measures lays the foundation for Paso Robles Youth Arts to expand and increase its capacity and offerings in the future.
PRYAC provides accessible, high-quality after-school programs in arts, music, dance, theater, culinary, and media arts. Strategically centered in one of Paso Robles’ lowest-income areas, the center makes arts
education accessible to some of the region’s most under served youth. When the arts are equitably accessible, they bridge the gap between low- and high-income students, creating a foundation for success that extends beyond the classroom.
“Arts education has proven to have a transformative impact on youth, performing better academically and being more civically engaged,” said Becky Gray, executive director of Must! Charities. “Our board and Collaborative Circle were compelled by the overwhelming amount of evidence coupled with the incredible work PRYAC does in our community to make an investment today that will increase youth served in the future. We are absolutely thrilled to have this opportunity.”
The Building a Future project collaboration between Must! Charities and PRYAC addresses critical needs that will enhance safety and support staff to create a secure, welcoming environment for youth. By focusing on facility security and staffing, PRYAC will improve the learning atmosphere, ensure accountability, and offer a safe after-school space for community youth to engage in arts.
Key improvements include:
Installing a double-door entry system for enhanced security
• Implementing a state-ofthe-art video surveillance system for greater visibility and safety
• Increasing long-term benefits for full-time employees
Hiring a full time office administrator
• Purchasing student management software
“At PRYAC we serve over 600 students a year, with a daily focus on providing the very best arts education learning atmosphere,” says Barby Wunsch, executive director of PRYAC.
“In working with Must! Charities, we had the opportunity to step back from daily operations and identify what a collaboration of this magnitude could do to expand programs and students served. As a result, this project invests in operational costs that will help increase growth in the coming years, ultimately contributing even more to our vibrant and resilient community.”

Paso Robles Fire Department hosts live fire training at new training center site
The Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Department will conduct live fire training from Nov. 19-22 at the site of the new fire station and training center, located at 2924 Union Road.
The department is hosting a Fire Control 3 class, designed to train and mentor firefighters in advanced firefighting techniques, including fire behavior, flow path analysis, and safety protocols for live fire exercises. This course is a key step in ensuring local firefighters can teach this critical class in the future.
The training fulfills the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) annual requirement for live fire evolution. In past years, meeting this standard has been challenging due to the lack of a dedicated training facility. However, with the acquisition of the Fire Station 3 site and ongoing community support through Measure J-20 funding, construction of a state-ofthe-art fire and police training facility is on track for completion by 2025.

Bronze tiger sculpture relocated at Charles Paddock Zoo
The Charles Paddock Zoo announced the relocation of its iconic bronze tiger sculpture as part of a renovation of the Caribbean flamingo habitat. The 1,700-pound, hollow bronze sculpture now resides near the Thelma Vetter Red Panda Experience, enhancing the Zoo’s Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot area.
The move is part of the zoo’s effort to expand space for its breeding flock of 39 flamingos, allowing more room for nesting. “Removing the tiger will provide this group more room for nesting,” said Zoo Director Dr. Cynthia Stringfield. The tiger sculpture also creates a new photo opportunity for visitors, perfectly situated in its new location.
A special thanks goes to Lucas Porter Construction for efficiently relocating the sculpture, which was last moved seven years ago for cleaning by Genesis Bronze of Paso Robles.
The Charles Paddock Zoo, located at Atascadero Lake Park, highlights species from biodiversity hotspots, which cover just 2.5 percent of Earth’s land yet house nearly half of its unique wildlife. As an accredited member of the Associa-

Firefighters respond to early morning residential fire on San Benito Road
At 3:06 a.m. on Nov. 16, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at a single-family residence on 4175 San Benito Road. The homeowner reported the incident, and a total of 30 personnel from multiple units were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke emerging from the eaves and gable vents of the single-story home. While conducting an initial assessment, a portion of the roof collapsed due to a working attic fire. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
A complication arose when the homeowner, in an attempt to clear smoke, opened windows and doors during evacuation, inadvertently increasing oxygen supply and accelerating the spread of the attic fire.
Crews successfully controlled the fire within 58 minutes. The living room was identified as the area of origin, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported to residents or emergency personnel.
Atascadero Fire receives grant for wildfire prevention and preparedness
Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services has been awarded a crucial grant from the California Fire Foundation to bolster wildfire prevention and preparedness efforts in the community.
The grant has enabled the department to acquire Mystery Ranch Wildland line packs, replacing outdated equipment with advanced, state-of-theart gear. These packs enhance firefighter safety and effectiveness, meeting the demands of modern wildfire operations while protecting both the local community and supporting statewide firefighting efforts.
“This funding partnership is critical for equipping our Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services firefighters with the latest, most reliable firefighting gear. This modern equipment enhances firefighter safety while they work on the fire line, protecting our community and supporting statewide efforts during wildfire events,” said Battalion Chief Dave Van Son. “We are so very thankful to the California Fire Foundation for this invaluable grant. It will be hugely beneficial to our community.”
“The need to address wildfire prevention and preparedness is an integral part of living in California,” said Rick Martinez, executive director of the California Fire Foundation. “These grants support important projects focusing on keeping Californians, our state’s communities, and our first responders safe.”
Since 2018, California Fire Foundation grants have served communities at heightened wildfire risk, directly addressing the state’s toughest disaster-risk needs. For more information on California Fire Foundation grants visit cafirefoundation. org/grants.

Donald Winston Youngdale passed away on October 22, 2024, with family by his side.
Donald was born to Bob and Jenny Youngdale on
May 8, 1964, the youngest of their 11 children. He grew up surrounded by family in his beloved La Jolla, California and continued to live with his parents in both Nevada and California until their passing. He spent the last 13 years of his life in northern San Luis Obispo County, close to family and friends. Donald enjoyed many happy years as a client at Escuela Del Rio in Atascadero during that time, where his outgoing personality and great sense of humor were able to shine.
Donald loved people, sports, swimming, collecting boom boxes, and eating
Spam. His encyclopedic knowledge of music never ceased to impress, and he was most happy when listening to music and showing off his extensive hat collection. His kind heart and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Donald’s family would like to express their thanks to Escuela Del Rio, Central Coast Hospice, and the wonderful caregivers at Heavenly Home for their care and kindness. Donald Winston will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held this summer in La Jolla, CA.
Wand aims to transform the lives of twice as many homeless dogs and cats.
“Giving Tuesday is the national day of charitable giving and it kicks off our most crucial season of fundraising for the animals in our care,” said Woods Humane Society CEO Emily L’Heureux. “We are so grateful for the support of The John and Frank Sparacio Charitable Foundation for the opportunity to challenge our community of animal-loving supporters to meet this $20,000 match so that we can help two times as many dogs and cats in need.”
Woods Humane Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides shelter, medical care, and adoption services for up to 3,000 animals annually, relying entirely on charitable support. Contributions can be made online at WoodsHumane.org, by mail, or in person at their San Luis Obispo and Atascadero locations.

He was so lucky to find two loves in his life.
Born January 21, 1946, he spent his childhood in El Paso, Texas. Bill had many interests. He was in the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow, DeMolay when
young, and an avid Star Trek fan when he was older. Bill sang and choreographed in a Barbershop and volunteered to teach genealogy in Utah, literacy in CA and HI, and computers to doctors. He enjoyed sharing his love of science fiction in book clubs and with people he met anywhere. Bill worked as a computer system analyst in Canada and the US for many years.
Marcia and Bill had just celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary a few days before his death. He loved reading books with his wife. He was interested in everything and everyone. He never met a stranger.

Behavioral Health Department unveils lifesaving NaloxBox program to address opioid crisis San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department announced the launch of its NaloxBox program, a proactive initiative aimed at reducing opioid overdose fatalities by providing community members with easy access to life-saving medication. NaloxBoxes are self-contained, publicly accessible units that house essential tools for emergency overdose response, including naloxone nasal spray (Narcan), CPR face shields, gloves, and usage instructions.
“With the opioid crisis affecting our community deeply, we’re committed to expanding access to life-saving interventions,” said Behavioral Health Department Director Star Graber, PhD, LMFT. “By making naloxone available in these NaloxBoxes, we’re empowering community members to take immediate

action and potentially save lives.”
The initiative was rolled out across the county this October, with 23 NaloxBoxes now available in key locations, including public parks, libraries, and county health centers. Each box contains two doses of naloxone and is designed to provide essential assistance while emergency responders are on their way. Naloxone, an opioid reversal medication, acts much like an AED but for opioid emergencies rather than cardiac events.
“The NaloxBox program is a critical resource for our community,” said SLO Opioid Safety Coalition Coordinator Jenn Rhoads. “Last year alone, we lost 116 members of our community to overdoses. Having these resources accessible throughout the county means that anyone can step in and provide potentially life-saving assistance.”
Funding for the NaloxBox program comes from SLO County’s Opioid Settlement Funds and the California Department of Health Care Services Naloxone Distribution Project. The program aligns with California laws, including the 9-1-1 Good Samaritan Law and the Overdose Treatment Act, which protect those who administer naloxone in good faith from legal repercussions.

PASO ROBLES — The holiday season is arriving with a jolly twist, as two festive experiences, Miracle at 1122 Cocktail Lounge and Sippin’ Santa at Cane Tiki Room, bring holiday cheer to downtown Paso Robles. These two holiday-themed pop-ups will offer a one-ofa-kind experience, and the only two offered between San Francisco and Los Angeles as part of the “Miracle® Cocktails” network.
Owners of 1122 Cocktail Lounge and Cane Tiki Room are delighted to bring the adored holiday pop-up bars to San Luis Obispo County in their downtown Paso Robles locations.
“Who doesn’t love Christmas? The decorations, the sweaters, the movies, and, of course, the drinks. We wanted to bring the Christmas spirit to downtown Paso Robles and offer two Christmas-themed bars at both Cane Tiki Room and 1122 Cocktail Lounge,” Donovan Schmit, CEO of The Park & Pine Group, shared. “Both will be completely decked out for Christmas, including a special holiday-themed drink menu from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31. We
welcome everyone who loves Christmas to come join us at both locations for a magical experience! Bring your friends, cameras, and Cheerful holiday spirit to enjoy a jolly good time.”
In 2014, Miracle began as a spontaneous holiday cocktail pop-up during the construction of founder Greg Boehm’s future bar. It has since evolved into a global sensation, spreading yuletide joy by transforming everyday bars into hubs of holiday happiness. Its sister concept Sippin’ Santa was developed as a tropical twist to the snowy festivities, featuring Santa on surfboards wearing festive leis and drinking out of coconuts. Both Miracle and Sippin’ Santa serve up one-of-a-kind cocktails only during the holidays.
Both Paso Robles locations will offer a holiday oasis with over the top kitschy, festive décor, a themed cocktail menu, and holiday gift glassware. Sippin’ Santa at Cane Tiki Room will feature Cocktails created by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry with a unique blend of holiday cheer and tropical escapism including Sugar Plum Mai Tai, Frosty the Merman, Jingle Bird, Merry Spritzmas. Asian-fusion Pu Pu plates to share will also be available. The Miracle at 1122 Cocktail Lounge will feature cocktails by Joann Spiegel, the creative visionary behind Miracle’s iconic menu, with cocktails like Stocking Stuffer, Crooked Antler, Christmapolitan, and Snowball Old-Fashioned. With a bit of magic infused in every pour, each drink is served in signature glassware available for purchase exclusively at
pop-up bars. At the end of this year’s season, the pop-up producers will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from the sale of signature glassware to the Seva Foundation, a global nonprofit eye care organization that works with local communities around the world.

About El Camino Homeless Organization (ECHO)
“Last year, over 1,000 participants joined us to trot, run, and walk, and we’re expecting an even bigger turnout this year,” said Wendy Lewis, CEO of ECHO. “The Turkey Trot is more than a fundraiser — it’s a celebration of community, kindness, and giving back. PASO ROBLES — After a nearly decadelong hiatus, Georgia Brown Elementary’s fifth-grade students will once again attend Camp KEEP By the Sea, an immersive fourday science camp where students will have the opportunity to explore tide pools, observe wildlife, and participate in hands-on activities that align with California’s Next Generation Science Standards (CA NGSS). The PTO has paired its commitment to bring this experience back with a promise to ensure every student has the opportunity to attend, regardless of financial circumstances.
Only one in four California fourth- and eighth-graders are proficient in science — a statistic that has remained unchanged for years — highlighting the critical need for equitable and robust science education (National Center of Education Statistics). Experiences like these are essential to building a foundation of science literacy that empowers the next generation.
“We are so proud to bring this program back to our school and grateful to our community for making it possible,” said Courtney Perales, PTO president at Georgia Brown. “Every student deserves the chance to learn and grow through experiences like this.”
PTO board members visited all three fifthgrade classrooms on Friday morning to share the exciting news and build enthusiasm among the students.
To support the program, the PTO has organized a fundraiser where students will invite family, friends, and neighbors to contribute for a chance to win a YETI cooler filled with local gift cards and swag. This campaign encourages students to take an active role in raising funds while providing a fun incentive for the community to participate. If you know a fifthgrader at Georgia Brown, ask how you can join in and support this effort.

The PTO invites businesses, families, and individuals to contribute to this effort. Those interested in making a difference in the lives of local students can contact Courtney Perales at GeorgiaBrownPTO@gmail.com for more details on how to sponsor.

Rosemary Dexter celebrates 100 years with $100K fundraiser for local food pantry
Though she is no longer able to volunteer in person, she has found a meaningful way to continue her legacy of service
STAFF REPORT
ATASCADERO — Rosemary Dexter of Atascadero is turning 100 on Jan. 7, 2025, and she’s marking her milestone birthday in a truly inspiring way. In gratitude for a century of blessings, Rosemary is launching a $100,000 fundraiser to support the ALF Food Pantry, formerly known as Atascadero Loaves and Fishes, an
organization close to her heart.
The ALF Food Pantry has a critical need for a larger facility to accommodate its growing client base and safely store and distribute both perishable and shelf-stable food. Recognizing this need, Rosemary, whose late husband, Rev. Rollin Dexter, co-founded ALF in 1984, is stepping up to help. Though she
is no longer able to volunteer in person, Rosemary has found a meaningful way to continue her legacy of service.
Her centennial fundraising campaign seeks to raise $100,000 to expand and improve ALF’s facilities, ensuring the pantry can serve the community with dignity and care for years to come.
To amplify the impact, Rosemary is personally matching the first $30,000 in donations.
“This, I can do,” Rosemary said, as she invited the community to join her in making a difference.
Contributions are already coming in, with $8,992 raised on her GoFundMe page and an additional $6,000 sent

About: The Atascadero Greyhound Foundation has been serving the Atascadero community for more than 20 years, gradually adding more events that serve its mission. We have grown, and continue to give because of the generous donors, sponsors and participants of our events. Our events are a benefit to the community in healthy activity — either athletically, musically, educationally, or in the fight against addiction. ALF Food Pantry
OUR MISSION: ALF Food Pantry is dedicated to providing nutritious groceries to the food-insecure residents of the communities we serve. ALF Food Pantry (formerly known as Atascadero Loaves and Fishes) is celebrating 40 years of service to our community, providing groceries to families and individuals. The Atascadero Chamber of Commerce honored ALF as the 2024 Community Organization of the Year. With an all-volunteer workforce, we distributed nearly 600,000 pounds of food in 2023, the equivalent of 360,000 meals. We provide quality fresh and shelf-stable ingredients to food-insecure people in Atascadero, Templeton, Santa Margarita, Creston, and California Valley. Clients have increased by 20% each year since 2020 and food costs are dramatically higher.
Donations: We need your help to allow us to continue our vital work. Donate today using our QR code or mail a check to ALF Food Pantry, 5411 El Camino Real, Atascadero, CA 93422.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Redwings is always looking for volunteers to help us provide the highest standard of care for our horses and burros. You do not need to have any prior horse experience to volunteer at Redwings. If you would like to work with our horses, the first step is to take a Volunteer Training Class. This class covers sanctuary rules, basic safe horsemanship skills, and an introduction to some of the horses that you will be working with. After completion of the class you are welcome to come volunteer and help with the horses any time during our volunteer hours. Volunteer hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 8am to 3:30pm, and we are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Note: We do not allow volunteers to ride the horses at Redwings. There are other ways to get involved and volunteer at Redwings too. We have opportunities to help in our rose and memorial garden, volunteering in the office, helping with events and fundraising, and more. Please submit the form below to schedule a volunteer training or contact our office: info@redwingshorsesanctuary.org or (805) 237-3751.

BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of
trust on the property. N OTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER : The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 1-800-280-2832 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this internet website http:// www.qualityloan.com using the file number assigned to this foreclosure by the Trustee: CA-24992880-CL . Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet website. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. NOTICE TO TENANT : You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call 1-800-2802832 , or visit this internet website http://www. qualityloan.com, using the file number assigned to this foreclosure by the Trustee: CA-24-992880CL to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase. NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE

I’ve never been a rancher, but I’m proud to say that for most of my life, I’ve been a cattleman. How can that be?
Because a person who owns a ranch may not own a single ruminant, while a cattleman may have thousands of cattle but may not own one acre of ground.
Someone smarter than me once said that the only way to acquire a ranch is through marriage, the womb, or the tomb. I struck out on all counts. I think I’m the first in my family to have owned a cow and yet they were ranchers. How can that be?
Because great grandmother Nora owned a small place where she grew walnuts that everyone in my family referred to as “the ranch.” In California, where I was born, raised, and reside, anything on which you could grow a bulb garden or two orange trees is called a ranch, whereas everything in Texas smaller than 30
Neutrinos, often called “ghost particles,” are subatomic particles produced in enormous quantities during nuclear reactions, such as those in the sun’s core, other stars, or in cataclysmic supernovae explosions. These particles are fascinating because they travel almost entirely undetected through matter, including our bodies and the Earth.
Imagine this: billions — some say trillions — of solar neutrinos pass through every square centimeter of your body every second. Can you feel them? No. Can you see them? No. But are they real? Absolutely.
Neutrinos remind us of something else invisible but undeniable: the spiritual principles and

sections is referred to as “a small little place.”
There are big differences between a rancher and a cattleman. A rancher owns heavy equipment, including a road grader, D7 Cat, baler, bagger, Bobcat, and a backhoe. The only piece of equipment owned by a cattleman is an old rusty stock trailer with sketchy wiring. There may be 1,500 head of cattle on a rancher’s place but not a single quart of milk in the refrigerator. A rancher’s old saddle is sacked and hanging in the barn; his branding irons have been turned into towel hangers, his or her spurs are now wall hangers, and old saddle blankets are now part of the decor. A purse dog sleeps in the house, is fed three meals a day plus a snack, rides in the cab, and yaps out the window. A cattleman’s truck also serves as the tack room and three or four barking cow dogs are in the bed of the truck. They sleep under the front porch and eat once a day. If they get a snack, it’s road kill or something they dug themselves.
A cattleman eats breakfast at the auction market cafe with his friends and cow buyers and
universal laws that shape our lives, whether we acknowledge them or not. Just as neutrinos are perpetually streaming through us, unseen and unfelt, spiritual forces like the law of cause and effect or the omnipresence of Spirit are at work in our lives, quietly influencing our experiences.
Neutrinos are created whenever atomic nuclei come together, such as in the fusion reactions of the sun or when they break apart, like in nuclear reactors or particle accelerators. Even something as ordinary as a banana emits neutrinos due to the natural radioactivity of potassium-40, a trace isotope found in the fruit. Yes, your morning snack is a mini neutrino generator!
What could “amp up your neutrinos” possibly mean? Of course, I’m speaking symbolically, drawing from the unique nature of these ghost particles to explore personal energy, vibration, and growth. To amp up your neutrinos is to increase your energetic amplification, activate your subtle

may not eat again until 10 that night. A rancher eats three meals a day at home because the nearest restaurant or coffee shop is an hour away.
A cattleman pays real close attention to the weekly auction market report and the price of fed cattle and shows up regularly at the auction market to take the pulse of the livestock industry.
A rancher is more apt to keep abreast of the Dow Jones and NASDAQ and doesn’t go to the auction yard even if he sells his calves there.
A cattleman has a good ranch horse he and the banker bought and keeps it in his stock trailer, saddled up and ready to go at a moment’s notice. He can be mounted up and on the prowl while the rancher is still dressing his horse. Both the rancher and the cattleman’s saddle, bit, and spurs may have silver brands on them, but the rancher’s weren’t financed with a home equity loan.
A rancher belongs to his county cattlemen’s organization, the Farm Bureau, R CALF or NCBA, serves on the board of the soil conservation district, and is on a variety of committees for

Energetic Amplification: Neutrinos symbolize subtle, invisible energies or vibrations. “Amping them up” is about enhancing your energetic presence — raising your frequency to align with higher vibrations like love, joy, and peace. It’s an invitation to “raise the vibe” in your life.
Subtle Power Activation: Just as neutrinos move unseen through everything, so too do our subtle powers — intuition, spiritual insight, or influence — often operate in ways we don’t immediately notice. Amplifying your “neutrinos” means activating and harnessing these quiet yet powerful forces within.
Quantum Growth: Neutrinos connect us to the stars — literally. They’re a byproduct of the same cosmic processes that forged the atoms in our bodies. To “amp up your neutrinos” is to tap into this mystical reality, embracing your role in the Universe’s interconnected energy field and realizing

3/4 cup blue cheese (3 ounces), crumbled 1/2 cup Italian-style bread crumbs

countless clubs. The only group a cattleman may belong to is Alcoholics Anonymous.
A rancher goes to Arizona for the winter and team ropes every weekend. A cattleman can barely get out to go to a jackpot because, in winter, the roads are covered with black ice, and the snow drifts are six feet tall.
A rancher probably has kids who live far, far away who want nothing to do with ranching. If the rancher does own cows, they are probably all black, all calve within 60 days, have electronic ear tags, are weaned for 60 days, and top the market when they’re sold. A rancher who lives on the ranch probably keeps some poultry around the place.
A cattleman doesn’t eat eggs or raise chickens, has ulcers, and his bulls run with the cows all year long because he has no other place to put them. A rancher has a hired hand; a cattleman has a wife. A rancher pays income tax every year but a cattleman only has that problem one year out of 10. your capacity to shape reality. Neutrinos teach us that the most subtle forces can hold immense power. So, where in your life are you ready to amplify your energy? Is it in your relationships, your career, or your spiritual practice? Just as these particles quietly influence the Universe, your energetic presence can create profound ripples in your world. Invisible doesn’t mean inconsequential. Whether it’s neutrinos or Spirit, the unseen is always at work — so why not amplify it?
If you are ready to move from surviving to thriving, amp up your neutrinos to accelerate the manifestation of the life of your dreams. It’s like an instant message to the Universe, signaling you are ready for your transformation! And so it is.

Morro Bay overpowers Atascadero to advance in CIF Central playoffs
Atascadero’s season ends with a 6-6 record
MORRO BAY — The Morro Bay Pirates turned in a dominant performance, defeating the Atascadero Greyhounds 42-14 in a CIF Central Section Division V playoff
clash that highlighted the challenges of converting regular-season success into postseason triumphs. The defeat was a bitter reminder for Atascadero of their 54-34 loss to Morro Bay in October.
Morro Bay’s Sands Dougherty continued his stellar season, throwing for 387 yards and five touchdowns while completing 85.2 percent of his passes. He also showcased his dualthreat abilities, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown on
11 carries. Ryder Busch added to the Pirates’ firepower with three touchdowns.
The loss ended Atascadero’s season with a 6-6 record, marking their third consecutive road defeat. Meanwhile, Morro Bay also moved to 6-6 and now sets its sights on top-seeded Bishop Union. The teams will clash Friday at 7 p.m., with host Bishop Union riding an eight-game winning streak.
