Arch Coming to Norma’s Alley Entrance
Local artist Dale Evers leading the project By MARK DIAZ mark@pasoroblespress.com PASO ROBLES — The Paso Robles City Council on Dec. 3 unanimously approved an artwork project at the entrance of Norma’s Way located downtown at Pine Street and 12th Street. Proposed by local artist and business owner, Dale Evers, the archway will greet pedestrians at the mouth of the alley that is named after long-time and current Paso Robles Downtown Main Street Association leader Norma Moye. The project is a private venture and will not be funded by the City. The Downtown Association’s office is located in the alley halfway between Park and Pine streets. “One thing to keep in mind is that this is all going to be privately funded,” Paso Robles Director of Community Development Warren Frace said. “So although this is on public property, it’s not going to involve any cost and there will be a maintenance agreement for the initial period to make sure that it holds up as expected.” Frace said the City adopted ordinances and policies beginning in 1999 to encourage public art such as murals on private property to enhance unique community features, making Paso Robles “a special place to live, work and shop.” CONTINUED ON PAGE A10

Prep Under Way for 2020 Census
San Luis Obispo County District Supervisors, Debbie Arnold and John Peschong, said the County received $100,000 of the state’s $25 million allocated funds for the Census Outreach Project. The data collected by the decennial census determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is used to distribute billions of federal dollars to state and local governments, according to the San Luis Obispo County Census Outreach Project. A large part of the planning process involves reaching hardto-count demographics and educating the public on why the numbers are important. In the 2010 Census, one of the least

NORTH COUNTY — Although the 2020 Census does not begin until April 1, local preparations are under way to make sure everyone is counted. This year the federal government took a huge step into bringing the census process into the new millennium by adding digital tools to its repertoire. The public can go online to fill out the questionnaire or call in and talk to a live person on the phone. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s 2020 Census Operational Plan, 45 percent of the populace that receives notification by mail is expected to respond online.

“We’re a small business, a family-run operation that’s been doing business on the Central Coast for 118 years,” said Bill Casey. Casey Printing is located at 398 E. San Antonio Dr., King City and is still a family-run business. Fred Vivian founded Casey Printing in 1901 with nothing more than a Washington handpress that could only print a single sheet of paper at a time. Now, the company performs a host of print and digital media services as it continues its long history of serving the Central Coast. Casey Printing is family-owned and operated by Fred’s grandsons Rich and Bill Casey, and Rich’s son Ryan, VP of Marketing, is
