The Golden Age of Polo in Hidden Hills

Photos Provided by Theresa Packard and the Bob Sullivan Photo Collection with a special thank you to Steve Sullivan

Throughout the springs and summers of the 1950s, when the weather was bright and warm, the locals of Hidden Hills would gather together on weekends to play “indoor polo.” Many, if not all, were family men and fathers, so their wives in cateye sunglasses and children in worn blue jeans would come to stand along the sidelines and watch the game. The fragrance of backyard orange trees filled the air as families would cheer on their polo players and beloved family horses underneath the saddle.

This polo ring was located at the northwest corner of Jed Smith and Lewis and Clark Road. It was called simply an “indoor polo” ring because the ring was significantly smaller than a traditional polo field. The sport was still played outside.

Theresa Packard remembers her father, Adelbert Packard, playing in these polo teams throughout the 1950s. The local contractor was better known as “Dell” by his friends and was part of the Hidden Hills architectural board. Theresa says that the neighborhood fathers built the polo ring themselves, and that added a sense of pride for playing there on the weekends.

Throughout the decade, there were about 11 or 12 men all together who played polo, and with three people per team, they alternated members frequently. There were no set in stone teams, no leagues, and no intense competition. Everything was operated in a nonchalant fashion. The games were often constructed of the same group of neighborhood men playing matches against each other. Theresa remembers that, on occasion, teams from other local areas would come to play against Hidden Hills. All together, the main goal of the local players was just to get up on a nice fresh morning and play polo.

Traditionally regulation polo games call for riding thoroughbred horses with English saddles during the games due to their long endurance. But since this polo ring was within a neighborhood and significantly smaller in size, the polo players would trailer their American Quarter Horses, the cowboy staple, to the ring, throw an English saddle on their horses’ backs and play. After polo games, fathers would often hand over the horses to their children for them to practice good horsemanship by walking the horse around the ring to “cool it off” after a hard game.

22 | HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE
HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE | 23

On summer weekdays, when the kids were released from school, but their fathers still went to work, many of the youngsters would meander their way up to the vacant polo ring. Some kids would bring their horses, and some would bring their donkeys instead. Jill Hartman, a Hidden Hills kid during the 1950s, remembers there being up to 25 kids in the polo ring and that they all had plenty of space to move around on their horses. She said it was an ideal place to play pretend cowboys because if you fell off your horse, the ground was quite soft, considering there were no rocks within the ring. Additionally, since the polo ring was enclosed, if you ended up on the ground, your horse could not run too far away! But on the weekends, their fathers would return to the polo ring to have a good day of fun. Theresa says the polo players, including her father, Dell, all had a close friendship and met up outside of the polo ring to watch sports games and have family barbecues.

Into the 1960s, the Hidden Hills polo team unfortunately disintegrated. Many members moved on from playing polo for various reasons, such as busier work schedules, growing families, or simply moving away from the city. But a decade later, during the

1970s, the Hidden Hills polo team had a resurrection, this time with a slightly different form. The ’70s second-wave polo team played near the city’s Saddle Creek Arena, which is right off Saddle Creek Road near Long Valley Road. Following the casual essence of previous polo operations, players would saddle their horses on warm Saturday mornings and play what they collectively coined “broomstick polo.” This simply involved playing polo with the unofficial polo mallet of a broomstick.

Steve Sullivan, an early Hidden Hills resident who played polo during this time with his father, Bob Sullivan, says that the players tried out many different types of brooms and ultimately ended up modifying their own to be the most effective and durable for polo playing. The neighborhood players used a schoolyard ball instead of the much smaller ball that is required for regulation polo. Just like the previous era of 1950s indoor polo, the Hidden Hills broomstick polo did not call for any grandiose elements; its purpose was for community members to be active and to have fun together.

Cowboy polo was another variation of polo played at the Saddle

24 | HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE

Creek arena during the 1970s. During this time, some Hidden Hills members purchased regulation cowboy polo gear (ditching the brooms) and had fun getting into the Western spirit. Members would often play against each other, sometimes finding other local cowboy polo teams to play against. Steve Sullivan says that “The Hidden Hills Horsemen cowboy polo players actually hosted a competition and invited a ‘real’ cowboy polo team from the San Diego area, I believe it was in 1975. It was a great game. We learned a great deal from the pros, and actually scored a point against them.”

Across the United States, cowboy polo got its name from the fact that it has some nontraditional and untamed elements to it. Cowboy polo uses Western riding saddles (that are known for being used in rodeo events and cattle gathering) instead of the English riding saddle. In addition, the American Quarter Horse is always ridden rather than the thoroughbred. Cowboy polo does not have as many rules (with communities often creating their own), is often played more aggressively and the polo mallet is not required to be held in the right hand. Cowboy polo reached its peak of popularity in the United States during the 1970s but is still played across the

country to this day.

In 1978, more enthusiastic and advanced Hidden Hills polo players branched off from the Saddle Creek arena to play regulation polo at Will Rogers State Park, located in West Los Angeles. An official Will Rogers Polo Club that still remains intact today. There is a polo field located within the State Park where locals and people from around the country arrived to play polo under the California sunshine. The Hidden Hills residents played regulation polo at Will Rogers State Park from 1978-1987.

Overall, from the original homegrown 1950s indoor polo to the 1970s “broomstick polo” and Cowboy polo, to participating in regulation polo at Will Rogers State Park within the 1980s, every incarnation of Hidden Hills polo activities carried a “come as you are” Californian-ease where locals from all careers and backgrounds banded together from their love the outdoors and the sport of polo. These activities are a special piece of Southern California history that carry an enduring aesthetic of the West Coast Americana.

Evening of Elegance and Enchantment

Kris Allen’s Intimate Backyard Concert at the Bacons’ Residence

Photographed by Sam Lenkov

Tucked away in the tranquil enclave of Hidden Hills is the residence of Leslie and Tyler Bacon, an idyllic setting for a night brimming with music, culinary delights, and camaraderie. Leslie, an ardent music aficionado, carries a soft spot in her heart for artists of Kris Allen’s caliber, those who echo their soulful essence through their melodic creations.

28 | HIDD EN
HILLS MAGAZINE

Their home, a testament to tasteful design and thoughtful curation, radiates an artistic aura that only enhances the musical experience. Despite Tyler’s ownership of a record label, it was unambiguously clear that this event bore Leslie’s distinctive touch. As a seasoned connoisseur of music, every element of the evening, from the soft glow of candlelight to the carefully crafted taco buffet, was a reflection of Leslie’s meticulous attention to detail.

The magical evening unfolded amidst a setting sun and sparkling fairy lights strung along the beautiful trees in Leslie’s backyard. Close friends, family, and a few lucky fans gathered on an assortment of scattered blankets and pillows, creating an intimate and cosy concert experience. The atmosphere was perfect, vibrant with anticipation. There was a collective hush as Kris Allen stepped onto the makeshift stage, guitar in hand. His familiar figure, amplified by the warm backyard lighting, instilled an immediate connection with the audience.

He began the set with his hit single “Live Like We’re Dying,” a crowd pleaser that evoked spontaneous clapping and singing along from the audience. As the evening progressed, Kris deftly wove his magic, introducing each song with a charming anecdote or thought-provoking story. Each note strummed, every lyric sung was like a gift, opening up his soul to his listeners. Kris even took requests, showing his versatility and engagement with his fans.

After the performance, the crowd was invited to mingle with the artist. Kris, ever gracious, took the time to chat and take pictures with everyone who approached him. The feeling of community was palpable, the shared experience of live music breaking down any barriers. Everyone left the event feeling like they’d made a new friend — not just in Kris, but in each other.

In the aftermath of the enchanting concert, I had the privilege of conversing with Kris, gaining a deeper understanding of his musical voyage. As a fellow musician, his story was utterly captivating. We delved into his personal

HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE | 29

life, talking about his three children and the song “Don’t Stop Dancing” he penned for his daughter. This endearing track features a voice memo of his daughter Rosie, joyfully bouncing on a trampoline to the rhythm of his guitar strums. With a touch of humor, he noted that two out of his three children have songs dedicated to them, leaving out his youngest son, Marlo. Kris playfully acknowledged his children as his most forthright critics, always ready to deliver candid opinions on his music.

As the warmth of the summer night wrapped around us, we also ventured into a more somber topic — his unfortunate car accident in 2013 that resulted in a hand injury. Kris’ eyes reflected a certain poignant intensity as he opened up about this life-altering event.

He recounted how the accident served as a profound reminder of the fragility and unpredictability of life, causing him to appreciate his craft — specifically his relationship with his

guitar — in an entirely new light. The accident may have momentarily hindered his ability to play, but it ultimately led him to an even more profound connection with his music.

During his challenging recovery period, there was undeniably a sense of frustration and a cloud of uncertainty that loomed overhead. Yet, in the face of adversity, he found a silver lining. He began to view his guitar not merely as an instrument but as an extension of his soul, a tool for self-expression that allowed him to articulate feelings words couldn’t capture.

In a conversation with Leslie, she shed light on the intricate logistics of hosting a house show. It requires a devoted fan, akin to herself, to extend an invitation to a cherished artist, offering them a platform to perform in the comfort and intimacy of their home. The artist is welcome to stay with them, while Leslie takes care of the location, food, and refreshments. Unlike traditional venues that take a share of

the artist’s earnings, in this model, all guest donations directly benefit the artist.

Leslie emphasized, “There is a whole genre of artists who survive by doing house show tours.” In the contemporary music scene, securing gigs and finding suitable venues can be a formidable task. Hosting house concerts, she explains, not only creates a more intimate connection between artists and fans but also offers musicians a supportive and financially viable platform to showcase their talents.

As a musician myself, I came away from the evening feeling inspired and touched by the raw authenticity of Kris Allen’s performance. For Leslie and all the fans who attended, the experience was a testament to the profound power of music and the unique bond it creates among its listeners. Leslie’s vision, combined with Kris’s talent, made for a perfect night of music under the stars, one that none of us will soon forget.

Experience the Magic of Persian Cuisine at Calabasas’ Newest Culinary Gem

In the midst of the 2020 pandemic, Banzai Sushi permanently shuttered its doors, leaving behind a tattered, once great bungalow in the heart of Old Town Calabasas. But brothers Cheyenne and Xander Khodayeki were able to see past this … they instead saw a dream, and something Calabasas has always been missing: a Persian restaurant.

This dream has come to fruition through MEEZ, which now lives in a glorious, newly renovated bungalow. Meaning “table” in Iranian, MEEZ is a place where those familiar with Persian cuisine and locals completely new to it can enjoy delicious meals seven days a week within a charming, romantic atmosphere.

“It’s a whole different art making restaurant-quality Persian food versus homestyle,” explains Xander. “Generally, most people tend to prefer homestyle, myself included … so we craved a place that could marry those two ideals”. Bringing the homemade feel to Meez, “Our food tastes like it was made with the same level of care and attention as it would be made by your mom or grandma, but with an upscale spin on everything.” And not just any place to sit down and enjoy traditional Persian cuisine, but three elevated dining experiences to choose from: the interior dining room, outdoor patio, or the popular windowed sunroom.

MEEZ offers three elevated dining experiences to choose from: the interior dining room, outdoor patio, or the popular windowed sunroom. Each space adds a unique charm to your dining experience.

HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE | 35

Indulge in the refreshing flavors of Persian cuisine at MEEZ, where traditional dishes are infused with a modern twist. From tantalizing appetizers to flavorful entrees and delightful desserts, they’ve got something for everyone.

MEEZ offers a medley of fun flavorfull cocktails such as this Tehran Sour in a tilted glass.

36 | HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE

In the dining room, relax in refreshing air conditioning with a windowed view into the plant-filled sunroom. Even at night, the sunroom boasts a relaxing European atmosphere featuring checkered floors, bistro tables, glowing candles, and exquisitely hung greenery. The patio is also perfect for the summer season, so you can dine al fresco under beautiful, shady umbrellas, or in the open air to take in the dwindling summer twilight.

Start out your meal by ordering a refreshing glass of beer, wine, or one of the bar’s soju-based cocktails. MEEZ’s wine-based cocktail program utilizes a unique soju liquor dedicated to making low-alcohol-by-volume drinks without compromising flavor. Each drink is hand-crafted with the same care and attention as traditional cocktails and taste just as delicious without the headache that accompanies hard spirits. Each signature creation is inspired by Persian places and flavors.

Every meal begins with a complimentary taftoon, their in-house baked break similar to that of pita bread. You can enjoy it with butter, or add on tasty dips to enjoy the taftoon with, such as their housemade Mast-o-Khiar, a creamy yogurt dip, or hummus, made with fresh roasted chickpeas, olive oil, and paprika. For your next course, there are several different salads to choose from, but the watermelon feta salad (pictured) is the perfect dish to complement the summer season. A grain-based classic would be to order a tachin, a crispy on the outside, yet soft in the middle rice cake baked with saffron, chicken, and topped with barberries, which are similar to cranberries (pictured with mast-o-khiar sauce on the side). Another popular rice is the colorful albaloo polo, which gets its coloring from the caramelized sour cherries & saffron mixed in basmati rice (pictured).

“Our food tastes like it was made with the same level of care and attention as it would be made by your mom or grandma, but with an upscale spin on everything.”

For the main courses, all entrees are served with your choice of protein and traditionally charbroiled tomato, jalapeño pepper, onion, and a choice of basmati rice or garden salad on the side. All beef at MEEZ is Western Pismo beef, while their organic lamb comes all the way from New Zealand. MEEZ also takes pride in using no farmed fish, and all chicken is organic as well. Some popular choices on the entree menu include the beef barg, which is thinly sliced filet mignon, or the joojeh kabob, made with tender chicken marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, onion, garlic, and saffron (pictured). Finish off your dining experience with a hot persian tea and a dessert to your liking, such as the refreshing and citrusy rosewater faloodeh sorbet, made with frozen rice noodles and sweet lime juice (pictured).

MEEZ is open every day from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (818) 222-5800. MEEZ is located at 23508 Calabasas Road, Calabasas, CA 91302 across from the Sagebrush Cantina and next to the Blackbird General Store, in the same parking lot where the Calabasas Farmers Market occurs.

ADLER Spa Resort is SICILIA’s fresh take on Sicily and wellness

HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE | 41
42 | HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE

The second season of “White Lotus” not only made Sicily an “it” destination for a new generation of travelers. It also prompted avid travelers looking for life beyond the kind of flashy resorts depicted on the show to post videos on social media about the Italian island state’s vibrant towns, agricultural bounty, and natural wonders. Although ADLER Spa Resort SICILIA opened for business right around the same time, there is very little about it that lathers on that “White Lotus”-flavored sensory overload.

In fact, the Sanoner family, owners and operators of ADLER spas in the Dolomites, Tuscany, and the southern Tyrol, had something very different in mind for their latest outpost — a modern immersion into Sicily’s ancient roots. The resort situated on Sicily’s southwestern coast at the foot of the Torre Salsa Natural Reserve, a two-hour drive away from the island’s three major airports. It is also intentionally familyfriendly, with its AKI Kids Club offering guests 4-12 a program of educational, creative, and sports activities. Their own resort-withina-resort steers clear of theme park affectations, save for the cartoon eagle logo on backpacks given to the young participants.

The resort’s layout is best described as a hillside labyrinth that epitomizes “low profile construction” in multiple ways. Winding paths and stairways draw attention to the way each level of suites, fitness areas, indoor-outdoor pool, solarium, spa, and kids’ club are partially tucked underground. While the resort’s target guests (especially those from the California coast) will appreciate the 21st-century approach to sustainable construction, maintenance, and materials used to bring the concept to life, the few buildings visible above ground evoke the imposing and enduring ancient Greek structures found at the UNESCO-designated Valley of the Temples, a 30-minute drive south in Agrigento (which is, not surprisingly, one of the resort’s most popular guided excursions).

Even with its low-key vision emphasizing natural landscapes and healthy living, there’s no question ADLER Spa Resort SICILIA is a five-star resort. All 90 suites have floor-to-ceiling/wall-to-wall doors, a patio with a large circular chaise in neutral linen-like fabric, and a view of the Mediterranean shoreline. Interiors fuse minimalist design with maximum use of texture, shape, and color. A sunset orange velvet divan and ottoman offset the crisp but silky white linens dressing the king-sized bed and terracruda (a building material used since ancient times) wall serving as both a headboard and room divider for the bathroom area. Closet doors and other appointments are crafted from wood that is finished just enough to leave a slightly rough texture which also visually gets the resort’s mission across.

Perks inside the room that further blur lines between the outside and inside include house-bottled water, an enormous rain shower, and generous 3.4 oz bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, which

release a fresh, outdoorsy woodsy-citrus scent when used. The manager escorting me to my room, however, informs me the biggest luxury built into the property is ultimate privacy. “Every guest has a full view of nature and the Mediterranean, but the public doesn’t have a full view of us,” she explains. “That’s the genius of it.” She adds that there are no indoor hallways as the outdoor walkways connecting the buildings are intended to keep guests “in constant contact with nature ... which is why each room is outfitted with two large umbrellas.”

What’s particularly refreshing about the spa is that its aesthetic is minimalist in a similar way to the suites. It achieves its own identity by steering clear of old world European or Southeast Asian wellness tropes. Many of the facials, massages, and body treatments listed in the spa’s expansive catalogue are worth the splurge thanks to the integration of fresh organic oils, fruits, botanicals, Mediterranean Sea water, and algae. The spa’s foundational “Essence of Sicily” massage, for example, integrates a choice of aromatic oils (floral or fruity/nutty). More complex body treatments and packages blend thalassotherapy and volcanic elements. A trio of saunas — Finnish, steam bath, and panoramic bio sauna — sit in their own separate structure and are complimentary for all guests, as is an above-ground thalassotherapy infinity hot tub with seawater and sea views.

The indoor-outdoor pool and adjoining solarium on the opposite end of the resort is the visual highlight of the resort. The fitness center on the other side of the solarium is filled with state-of-the-art gym equipment and an area where all-level yoga, pilates, meditation, and other instructor classes are staged. A lap pool in front of it adds visual appeal as well as another self-directed fitness option. Bottles with fresh fruit-infused sparkling water by the main pool and in the fitness center are another unexpected and original touch. There is also a path downhill to its private access to the beach and the nature reserve, with signage at its trailhead with interesting scientific and geographical information.

In theory, one goes to a resort like this to cleanse body, mind, and soul. However, the philosophy of the beverage and food program appears to be that a little bit of bacchanalian indulgence can be a

HIDD EN HILLS MAGAZINE | 43
From gourmet dining to outdoor adventures, ADLER Spa Resort SICILIA offers a holistic escape with its sustainable construction, wellness facilities, and curated excursions.

good thing in moderation. At daybreak, the main restaurant’s breakfast spread includes an omelet station, smoothie station, fresh fruit, and a somewhat shocking abundance of savory breads and pastries (the pistachio cream-filled cornettos, the Italian version of croissants, are hard to resist). The tapas-style bites and salads on the buffet at lunch and dinner are fun and colorful.

Chef Giuseppe Schimmenti and his team, however, clearly put their heart, soul, along with herbs and vegetables from local farmers, purveyors, and (in the near future) the resort’s gardens into the a la carte items at lunch and dinner. Schimmenti brings his Sicilian background and continental training to the fore with dishes incorporating justcaught fish and seafood, gorgeous meat and lamb choices, and a variety of inventive but approachable pasta and sauces. Wines from area producers and elsewhere in Italy are beautifully displayed in a glass tower behind the buffet and are expertly paired. Drinks served at the upstairs Sunset Bar, meanwhile, are not limited to wine and Aperol spritzes. Many are innovative, original cocktails on par with those one may find at five-star properties in Milan, Florence, and Rome.

Guests who are visiting specifically to detox or have food sensitivities, however, can rest easy knowing that there are many gluten-free baked goods and dairy-free gelato available. Vegetarian or vegan dishes are

also available, and many of the chef’s gourmet dishes can be modified for those with religious dietary restrictions or allergies.

When the property’s e-bikes are not being used for planned excursions, they are also available free of charge for the guests. An activity board in the main reception (and a regularly updated version of it online) details complimentary fitness classes, guided hikes, and e-bike treks, as well as free and extra-fee excursions that dip into southwestern Sicily’s gastronomic, cultural, and environmental attributes. Creating a Backyard Oasis

Embracing the California Outdoor Living Sense

In California’s warm and inviting climate, there’s no better way to enhance your outdoor living experience than by creating a backyard oasis. With a perfect blend of relaxation, entertainment, and natural beauty, a welldesigned space can transform your yard into a haven that captures the essence of California outdoor living.

Let’s explore the key elements that will help you craft a backyard oasis that truly stands out.

Pool and Spa

A luxurious pool and spa are the crown jewels of any backyard oasis. Whether you prefer a sleek and modern design or a natural, free-form shape, a well-designed pool and spa combination provides a refreshing escape from the California sun. Consider incorporating features like cascading waterfalls, underwater lighting, and comfortable seating areas to elevate your pool and spa experience.

Sunken Fire Pit

No backyard oasis is complete without a cozy gathering spot for evenings under the stars. A sunken fire pit not only provides warmth but also adds an inviting ambiance to your outdoor space. Surrounded by comfortable seating and adorned with natural stone or brickwork, a sunken fire pit becomes the heart of your backyard oasis, where family and friends can gather, share stories, and create lasting memories.

Decking and Retaining Walls

Creating different levels in your backyard not only adds visual interest but also maximizes the available space. Incorporate stylish decking to connect various areas of your oasis, providing

a seamless flow between the pool, fire pit, and covered patio. Additionally, strategically placed retaining walls can add depth and create functional terraces, allowing you to showcase beautiful plants and greenery while adding privacy and structure to your outdoor haven.

Covered Patio

In California, outdoor living often means embracing the sunshine while seeking shelter from the occasional heat or rain. A well-designed covered patio provides a versatile space for year-round enjoyment. Consider incorporating retractable awnings, pergolas, or shade sails to provide protection from the elements without compromising the open-air feel. Furnish the patio with comfortable seating, a dining area, and perhaps even an outdoor kitchen, creating an inviting space for relaxation and entertainment.

Lighting

The right lighting can transform your backyard oasis into a magical retreat after the sun sets. Incorporate a variety of lighting options, such as pathway lights, uplights for trees and architectural features, and subtle underwater lighting for the pool and spa. Warm, soft lighting creates a tranquil atmosphere, while accent lighting highlights key elements of your outdoor space, adding depth and visual interest.

Creating a backyard oasis encapsulating the Californian lifestyle’s spirit is a delightful undertaking. You can establish an environment that merges relaxation, entertainment, and natural elegance by including features like a swimming pool, spa, recessed fire pit, decking, retaining walls, a sheltered patio, and strategic illumination. Bear in mind meticulous attention

to detail and a unified design philosophy will ensure that your backyard oasis transforms into a sanctuary for escaping daily routine and immersing oneself in the allure of California’s open-air living.

Ask the Pharmacist

Q: I have heard the injectable medication called Mounjaro® can help me lose weight. How effective is it, how long should it be used, and will it be covered by my insurance?

A: Mounjaro® (trade name for Tirzepatide) has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness for weight loss in individuals with obesity who have struggled to achieve results with diet and exercise alone. This medication works by slowing down food digestion, improving sugar metabolism, and inducing a sense of fullness.

While Mounjaro® received approval in May 2022 for the treatment of type 2 diabetes; it is also frequently prescribed off-label for weight loss in individuals diagnosed with obesity. Obesity is defined as having a BMI of ≥30 kg/m² or a BMI of ≥27 kg/m² with other risk factors. (Use an online calculator to determine your BMI.) The FDA is expected to approve Mounjaro® specifically for obesity treatment later in 2023.

Mounjaro® may cause transient and mild to moderate side effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. These side effects typically occur during dose escalation and can often be managed by consuming smaller meals and eating slowly. It is important to note that this medication is not suitable for everyone; there are specific contraindications and precautions that must be carefully screened before starting therapy.

Initial studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of Mounjaro® for weight loss. Longer-term studies are underway. While optimal dosing strategies for sustained weight loss are still being determined, it is expected that some patients may need long-term use of Mounjaro®.

Currently, insurance coverage for Mounjaro® is limited to diabetes treatment. However, once the FDA approves it for weight loss, insurance coverage may extend to this indication as well. Current out-of-pocket cost is around $1,150 per month; manufacturer coupons may be available.

Overall, Mounjaro® shows promising potential as a weight loss medication, and further research will provide more insights into its long-term effectiveness and optimal use.

Spanky's Pet Pics

The charming and courageous threelegged dog of the Lenkov home Bowie

Within minutes of meeting Bowie, he captures your heart. The three-legged rescue puppy faced an uncertain future, but the Lenkovs recognized his enthusiastic spirit and playful demeanor quickly enough to call him their own.

Bowie may be one leg short, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. The crazy joyful pup settled in fast with the Lenkov family. He has chewed homework on cue, and a few other of his favorites are SD cards and legos. He is also quite the guard dog, barking at every possible intruder, Amazon drivers, door dashers, and even his dad, Peter.

Bowie sometimes forgets that it was Peter’s idea to adopt Bowie. Bowie loves his walks in the morning with Hidden Hills’ favorite dog walker Angel. You may know Angel from his appearance on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.” Bowie refuses to walk with any dog walker that hasn’t had a TV debut. His ability to keep up with the four-legged dogs shows that limitations exist solely in your mind. Bowie is an inspiration to us all. If you are thinking of adopting a dog, this is your sign. You might even end up as lucky as the Lenkovs.
