HIDDEN HILLS BULLETIN BOARD The Long Valley Entrance Improvement Project – Phase 1

Stay Connected During a Power Outage

The City is excited to announce the commencement of the Long Valley Gate entrance improvement and beautification construction project, which started on October 23. For four months, as construction crews work their magic, you can look forward to a transformed entrance into Hidden Hills. This upgrade promises increased efficiency, smoother traffic flow, reduced congestion, and the addition of enhanced landscaping and picturesque green spaces, breathing new life into the main entrance for your enjoyment and that of your family.

Whether it’s a planned maintenance or an unexpected power outage, it’s never a welcomed disruption. However, there are proactive steps that residents can take to prepare for such situations and ensure they stay connected during an outage. Below, you’ll find information about rebates available to Southern California Edison (SCE) residential customers to assist with outage preparedness:

The initial steps toward this project’s realization began with the City Council’s approval of a conceptual design for Phase 1 of the parking lot layout and landscaping on December 13, 2021. The final design received the City Council’s nod on November 14, 2022. Funding for the Long Valley Entrance Improvement Project is sourced from LA County Metro Measure R and M sales tax revenues, specifically designated to enhance pedestrian and vehicular traffic conditions. All improvements related to parking lots and landscaping will be financed through these traffic funds, with no utilization of City General Funds.

Currently, Phase 2 of the project, which includes the right turn pocket on the Long Valley Road on-ramp and sidewalk enhancements along Long Valley Road and Valley Circle Boulevard, is in the design phase.

The City understands there may be some inconvenience due to periodic gate and road closures at Long Valley Road during construction.

However, we are confident that the long-term benefits this project will provide far outweigh any temporary disruptions. Embrace this opportunity for growth and renewal, as the result will be a beautifully revitalized entrance into our community.

Stay informed and engaged throughout the project’s duration by visiting hiddenhillscity.org/LVProject. We have created a dedicated webpage that will offer real-time updates on intermittent gate closures to minimize any inconvenience you may experience. Additionally, the City will be sending out email notification alerts in advance of closures, so we encourage you to sign up to receive these alerts, ensuring you stay well-informed about the project’s progress and when to avoid the affected area.

No Overnight Parking on the Parkways Parking on any parkway within the city is not permitted between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. However, if you have the need to park on the parkway during these hours due to driveway renovations or hosting an overnight guest, we kindly request that you contact City Hall at (818) 888-9281 for assistance. Alternatively, you can conveniently submit a temporary parking permit request by filling out the form online at hiddenhillscity.org/parking-permit. We are here to assist you with your parking needs.

Electric Portable Power Stations–$150 Rebates for Eligible Residential Customers • To be eligible, customers must be located in a High Fire Risk Area Tier 2 or 3, which includes all of the City of Hidden Hills.

• Residential customers may qualify to receive up to five (5) $150 rebates per residential address.

• For more detailed information, please visit sce.com.

Electric Portable Power Stations utilize battery storage and can be plugged into an electrical power outlet to recharge. They are versatile and can charge multiple devices, such as laptops, cell phones, tablets, and other essential devices. Moreover, these stations can power a Wi-Fi router, ensuring continued internet access. Charter/Spectrum has recently enhanced their local internet nodes’ backup batteries, offering up to 72 hours of internet service during extended power outages. However, it’s important to note that customers need to power their in-home router, which can be achieved by using a portable power station.

Portable Power Generators Rebates–$200 Rebates for Eligible Residential Customers • Eligible customers must be situated in a High Fire Risk Area Tier 2 or 3, which encompasses the entire City of Hidden Hills.

• An increased $600 rebate is available to income-qualified or medical baseline customers.

Depending on their size and capacity, portable generators can provide emergency backup power for essential household appliances and devices, including refrigerators, lighting, water pumps, and garage doors, for an extended duration. Portable generators are typically powered by gasoline, propane, natural gas, or diesel fuel.

To ensure your safety while walking or jogging, particularly when visibility is low, consider the following tips: 1. Wear reflective clothing Invest in high-visibility jackets, pants, and shoes featuring reflective materials. Arm and ankle bands can also enhance visibility.

Opt for bright colors like neon or white, and avoid dark clothing.

The more reflective gear you wear, the better.

HIDDEN HILLS FIESTA 2023 ‘ONCE UPON A TIME’ WRAP UP As the sun sets on another Hidden Hills Fiesta, we cannot help but reflect on the magical weekend that was “Once Upon a Time in Hidden Hills.” From September 30 to October 1, our tight-knit community came together to celebrate our cherished traditions and create new memories. The theme of this year’s Fiesta took us on a journey through fairy tales, the history of our town, and the wonderful moments we have shared as neighbors.

The festivities kicked off on Saturday morning with our beloved parade. Floats and participants brought our theme to life, igniting our imaginations with their creativity and enthusiasm. It was a heartwarming display of community spirit that set the tone for the entire weekend.

Throughout the day on Saturday, the Hidden Hills Community Center was abuzz with activity. Children enjoyed games, pet contests, arts and crafts, and Miss Kim’s music mania. “Kitty’s Booth” tempted everyone with doughnuts and drinks while the chili cook-off and bake contest filled the air with tantalizing aromas. Our young artists and talented residents showcased their work in the children’s and adult art shows, adding a touch of culture to our celebration.

As the day transitioned into night, the carnival lights illuminated the sky, and Bella Donna’s evening buffet was a feast for the senses.

The night-time carnival, complete with free games and rides, brought laughter and joy to kids and adults alike. It was an unforgettable evening of fun and excitement.

Sunday morning brought a different kind of treat with the Equestrian Services Pancake Breakfast. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee, and mimosas fueled our community for the day ahead. The petting zoo was a hit with young animal lovers, and the Wine Exchange and Gourmet Pizza Station offered a delightful evening for those looking to unwind.

The Car Show was a perfect conclusion to our Fiesta weekend.

Classic and exotic cars lined up in front of the Community Center, showcasing our community’s automotive beauty.

Throughout the Fiesta, the spirit of volunteerism was evident.

Hidden Hills Fiesta is primarily run by dedicated resident volunteers, and this year, students looking for community service hours also joined in the effort.

A special mention goes to our 2023 Grand Marshal, Stuart Siegel, a true community champion who embodies the spirit of Hidden Hills.

His years of service and commitment to preserving our open spaces make him a beloved figure in our community.

As we wrap up “Once Upon a Time in Hidden Hills” Fiesta 2023, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed, volunteered, and participated. It is your passion and dedication that make this annual tradition so cherished. We look forward to many more years of celebrating the enviable good in Hidden Hills and the bonds that make us the luckiest neighbors in the world. SPOOKY FUN AT KIDS HALLOWEEN PARTY On Saturday, October 21, the Hidden Hills Community Center hosted by Parks & Recreation was transformed into a haunted haven of fun and frights as families gathered for a spooktacular Kids Halloween Party. From 4 to 7 p.m., children and parents alike enjoyed an array of activities and treats that made this Halloween event one for the books.

The event boasted a variety of exciting attractions, including Nitro ice cream, a bounce house, a Halloween costume contest, thrilling games, delectable donuts, a lively DJ, a mesmerizing magic show, face painting, a seemingly endless supply of candy, a photo booth for capturing memories, and other spine-tingling surprises that kept attendees entertained throughout the evening.

Foodies were not left out of the festivities as a selection of food trucks offered delectable options for purchase, ensuring that appetites were satisfied. Complimentary drinks and desserts added to the culinary delights.

For the older kids and teens, the evening took a darker turn with a screening of “SCREAM 6” in the movie theater at 7 p.m. However, parents were advised that this movie was rated R, and discretion was advised for younger viewers.

All in all, it was a ghoulishly fun evening, proving to be a wicked good time for everyone who attended. The Kids Halloween Party was a tremendous success, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for families to celebrate Halloween together.

A Cozy Autumn Thanksgiving Feast: Recipes to Warm Your Heart As the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and orange and the air grows crisp, there is no better way to celebrate the beauty of autumn than with a hearty Thanksgiving-inspired meal. Whether you are gathering with friends and family or simply want to savor the flavors of the season, we have gathered a flavorful menu complete with an appetizer, main dish, side, and dessert. It is a feast to warm your heart and create unforgettable memories.

Appetizer:

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup Feeds: 6-8 people Preparation Time: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients 1 medium-sized butternut squash,

Ingredients

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Rinse and pat dry the turkey. Place it in a roasting pan.

In a bowl, combine the softened butter, chopped herbs, salt, and

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Feeds: 6-8 people

Preparation Time: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients 4 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks 1/2 cup unsalted butter 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup milk (or more for desired consistency) Salt and pepper, to taste Chopped chives (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.

In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Pour the garlic butter mixture over the potatoes. Mash the potatoes and mix in milk until you achieve your desired consistency.

Season with salt and pepper.

Garnish with chopped chives if desired.

Instructions Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.

Beat in the eggs and then gradually add the evaporated milk while mixing.

Pour the mixture into the pie crust.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the pie to cool before serving.
