Rain Showers Bring Flooding to town

BY DIXIE UTLEY Monday was definitely not a sunshiny day. When the rain came in Monday it flood-ed some parts of Brownsville in the city limits. The bridge located by Backyard BBQ and the Haywood County School Board on East Main Street was flooded under-neath. Brownsville Police had the road blocked of so citizens could not go through the water. After a couple of hours the water drained from underneath the bridge and they were able to allow traffic to proceed.

Telethon Raises Money BY BETH WILSON

Meraki- (v) to do something with soul, creativity, or love; when you leave a piece of your-self in your work.

K

atie Dedmon recently opened her salon and boutique located in the shopping center of Domino’s. She studied cosmetology at Arnolds Beauty School and has worked at 2 other salons before opening her own, Meraki. Her services she offers are hair, tanning, facial waxing, plus size boutique, inspirational t-shirts, and Buff City all natural soaps and lotions. Dedmon plans on adding a small selection of size small to large in her boutique very soon. Dedmon had always wanted to open her salon, but did not realize it would have been so soon in her career. “God led me to venture out and open my very own shop,” stated Katie Dedmon, Salon Owner. When remolding the inside of building,

Dedmon wrote bible scriptures all over the wall before covering the walls with a new color and texturizing. She wanted to make a foundation of God with her in her building. The goal that Dedmon has set is to make everyone in Brownsville to feel beautiful about himself or herself. On top of making everyone feel beautiful, Dedmon also strives to make everyone that steps foot in Meraki to feel at home and welcomed. Katie Dedmon is not the only cosmetologist at Meraki. Working alongside her is Emily O’Quin. “It has been very exciting the irst couple of weeks since opening and I am thrilled to see what the future holds,” stated Kate Dedmon.

The Circles of Hope Telethon aired this past Sunday on WBBJ Channel 7, from 1:00 to 10:00 pm. Various locals and entertainers performed and extended a helping hand, including Blair Simpson from Haywood County who volunteered time to help raise awareness and money for the Carl Perkins Centers in West TN. Haywood came in at just under $50,000 in donations and pledges. The grand total raised during the Telethon was $1,402,455.00. The Haywood Carl Perkins Center staff would like to thank everyone for their donations, time and support throughout the year, stating, “We are so blessed here (in Haywood County) and it’s because of the caring people in our community.”
