Trainer Certification Course in Empathy

Trainer Certification Course in Empathy Certification allows the holder to conduct empathy education on a fee-for-service basis, using this course outline and text. The sole requirement of certification is satisfactory completion and submission of the course assignments. On completion, the participant receives the Certificate of Trainer in Empathy and the designation of Certified Empathy Trainer (CET).

Objectives: 1. To be proficient in the ability to accurately sense and to sincerely express and verbalize the emotions of others and to assist the healthy development of emotional awareness and empathy in others.

2. To assist the ability to defend the views of one’s perceived opponent.

3. To expand the influence of the Course in Empathy for the improvement of individuals, groups and societies.

4. To build confidence as an effective trainer of empathic skills.

Course Text: A Course in Empathy – The New Revolution of the Heart (provided with tuition) Topics: 1. Introduction: What is Empathy?

2. Exercise One: Building Your Emotion Vocabulary 3. Exercise Two: Distinguishing Emotions and Thoughts 4. Exercise Three: Making Sentences for Empathy 5. Exercise Four: Role Reversal 6. Exercise Five: Doubling 7. Exercise Six: Listening with Empathy

8. Exercise Seven: Becoming Another Character 9. Exercise Eight: Understanding the Story 10. Exercise Nine: Imagine Emotions of a Historical Character 11. Exercise Ten: Having Empathy for Anger Tuition: $200 (USD) Assignments: 1. Complete each of ten exercises described in the text outlined above.

2. Write a report of at least two pages for each of the ten exercises, describing the experiences, challenges, and benefits of participating. Also include your responses to thought questions at the end of each exercise provided in the text.

3. Write a report of at least five pages, describing your experience and challenges of being a trainer of empathy using this course. Explain to participants, such as friends or family members, that you are conducting the course to complete requirements to become a Certified Empathy Trainer (CET).
