In the Spotlight - Stephanie Nelson

Stephanie Nelson, Clinical Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the College of Health Sciences Academic Resources Hub, officially launched the Hub in June. With over 300 individual appointments, monthly workshops, and a new website that is still growing, Nelson has shown steadfast dedication to COHS students and faculty.

Along with getting the Academic Hub off its feet, Ms. Nelson also chaired the creation of the BS in Health Sciences, which is awaiting approval from TAMUS and the THECB with plans to start in Fall 2025.

Additionally, Ms. Nelson is working with Dr. Chaumba on a research project titled “Student Belonging in the Health Sciences” in collaboration with REID. She also assisted with publishing an Orthopedic Assessment textbook with Kendal Hunt.

Congratulations on all of your hard work, Stephanie! We are proud to have you on our team!

In the Spotlight - Brendan Morrow

Senior public health student, Brendan Morrow, will be presenting his research at the prestigious American Public Health Association (APHA) National Conference in November.

In conjunction with Dr. Subi Gandhi, Brendan has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill on a study focused on mental health disparities related to COVID-19 pandemic among rural college students. The study is due for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. He is also involved in another research study that Dr. Gandhi has collaborated on with Dr. Yao-chi Yu, which looks at disease prediction with dietary habits and physical activity using AI tools.

In addition to his research achievements, Brendan has been actively involved in Dr. Gandhi's Erath Engaged project, serving as a Health Champion for Erath County. His commitment to leadership, research, and community health has made him a rising star in the public health program and the Department of MLSPHNS. Currently, he serves as the vice president for the Public Health Association, which aims to promote a culture of health at Tarleton University and beyond.

Congratulations, Brendan, on your achievements. We look forward to your continued success and contributions to the field of public health.
