e are very excited to have y’all here and participating in this year’s recruitment process. This week is the beginning of your college experience and we could not be happier to share this with you! Although it may seem intimidating and stressful at times, just know that your Pi Chi’s and Executive Council have been in your shoes and have all had a great experience participating in recruitment.

We have 9 organizations participating in primary recruitment as well as one other who holds informal recruitment on campus and they are all so excited to meet you! This booklet is your go to for a majority of the information you will need regarding those organizations here at the college. If you have any questions, your Pi Chis will be more than happy to answer them as well as any member of the Executive Council.

Our biggest bit of advice for you is to always be yourself and keep an open mind throughout this process. This is the first week of your college experience; make the best of it!

Alpha Delta Pi

F

ounded in 1851, Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society for college women in the world – therefore creating the first “sorority”. The Zeta Sigma Chapter was installed at the College of Charleston in the fall of 1979. ADPi is known for its legacy of building bonds of strong sisterhood and providing women a home away from home.

Friendship is a fundamental part of the membership and our sisters often say, “It’s not just four years – it’s for a lifetime.”

Since its establishment on campus, our chapter of Alpha Delta Pi has flourished throughout both the college’s campus and outside community.

We have been the recipient of many awards and honors for accomplishments in the Spring of 2019 such Chapter of Achievement Award, Sorority Women of the Year, Greek Scholar of the Year, Order of Omega Courage Award, and Rho lambda Inspiration Award.

The Zeta Sigma chapter of Alpha Delta Pi prides itself on this strong sense of sisterhood.

Alpha Delta Pi’s colors are azure blue and white.

Azure blue is symbolic of friendship while white represents sincerity and truth. The Zeta Sigma chapter of Alpha Delta Pi is proud to have members that are true and loyal. The Zeta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi prides itself on this strong sense of sisterhood. Our large sisterhood is made up of a diverse group of women who are extremely involved on campus through a variety of leadership positions, both big and small.

Our open motto, "We Live For Each Other," is exemplified through our commitment to planning fun and exciting events that help to bring our sisters closer together.

The Zeta Sigma chapter often hosts sisterhood events such as group workout classes at Pure Barre and Charleston Power Yoga, trunk shows at the Alpha Delta Pi house, sporting events, healthy eating speakers, beach sunset trips, and movie nights at the house. We also love to support our sisters who are involved in other

campus non-Greek organizations such as the Student Government Association, College of Charleston Athletics, MedLife, the Trippintones, Student Alumni Associates, and countless other organizations.

As a chapter, we not only put emphasis on community involvement but also on academic excellence. Our members are frequently included on academic honorary lists including College of Charleston's Dean’s List and President’s List.

This Spring, one of our members was awarded Greek Scholar of the Year, an award given to one affiliate Greek man or women for their outstanding academic notes and achievements.

Alpha Delta Pi women strive for excellence in all areas of life, and we pride ourselves on being a large group well-rounded individuals who share similar interests and priorities.

Since 1979, Alpha Delta Pi has been committed to serving the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

This philanthropic foundation provides a home away from home for families of ill children. Zeta Sigma is lucky enough to have Ronald McDonald House — Charleston, located only a few blocks away from the College of Charleston campus.

Throughout the year, our sisters volunteer at a variety of RMH events such as the Taste of Charleston, Boone Hall Oyster Festival, Lights of Love 5K, Cooper River Bridge Run, and many others. We also host our own events on campus to benefit the charity such as King of the Jungle, Pie a Pi, and Parent’s Weekend. In addition, the sisters of Zeta Sigma visit the Ronald McDonald House frequently to cook brunch and/or dinner for the families. Philanthropy and service to our communities are a top priority not only for individual sisters but also for ADPi as a whole.

Alpha Delta Pi’s dedication to helping RMH and the families thereof gives our members a sense of purpose and perspective as well as reinforces what it means to have a lifelong commitment of giving to others.

The Zeta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi supports not only RMH but a wide variety of other philanthropies as well. Our sisters participate in activities such as Relay for Life and Cougarthon each spring. We also support all of the other

Greek Life philanthropies on campus including MUSC Children's Hospital, St. Jude's, Breast Cancer Awareness, and Prevent Child Abuse America by participating in other organizations’ events each semester. The sisters of the Zeta Sigma Chapter also love and enjoy volunteering for off campus charities in our community, including One80 Place, Pet Helpers, Habitat for Humanity, MUSC Children’s Hospital, Autism Speaks, and many more. We are beyond grateful for all of the incredible volunteer opportunities that the Zeta Sigma Chapter, College of Charleston Greek Life, and City of Charleston presents us with. It is through our community, sisterhood, and philanthropic efforts that the women of Zeta Sigma are built to be first, finest, forev .

Chi Omega

T

he Zeta Gamma Chapter of Chi Omega Fraternity was founded in September of 1928. As the first sorority on College of Charleston’s campus, we are committed to Chi Omega’s six purposes: Friendship, High Standards of Personnel, Sincere Learning and Credible Scholarship, Participation in Campus Activities, Career Development, and Community Service. With the six purposes as our guide, we recruit women into our sisterhood circle who will contribute to the harmony in the chapter and who demonstrate our values. Chi Omega sisters are inspired by our values, individuality, and strive to serve the world while keeping Chi Omega ever at heart.

At the beginning of the fall semester, our social committee plans a date-party called “My Tie,” which is a function held by Chi Omega chapters nationwide. This event is an exciting start to the semester and helps the new members get to know their bigs as well as the older members in Zeta Gamma. We also host a formal social event in the fall and semi-formal in the spring. Our social committee works very hard to find us awesome and eclectic venues for all our mixers with other greek organizations on campus and date-parties.

Some of the themes of our events this past year have been hometown throwdown, ice party, valentines day, Jimmy Buffett, and a masquerade!

Our events range from something as simple as ice cream parties at the house, to nights spent jumping on trampolines at Sky Zone.

Sisterhood is the center of our chapter. We educate, empower, and support each other through our collegiate years with events ranging from pumpkin picking at a local Fall Festival, workshopping how to stand out and dominate the workforce as women, and leaving valentines for each other in the common room of our house at 38 Coming St. We embrace our diversity in backgrounds and take pride in participating in events where we can educate each other of where we all come from through cultural history, ceremonies, and food.

Chi Omega endeavors to serve communities locally, nationally, and internationally to recognize the needs of others. Chi Omega’s community service and philanthropic projects are worthwhile and reflect the values of the organization while involving our hands- on participation as well as monetary donations.

Our philanthropy is the Make-A-Wish foundation. Every year, Zeta Gamma puts on our annual “Work it for Wishes” Fashion Show which was held at the Charleston Riverdogs baseball stadium this past spring. With the help of other greek organizations on campus, we raise money in order to grant wishes as well as raise awareness. We also host send-off parties for a “wish kid” for whom we have granted a wish.

Send-off parties are Zeta Gamma’s most meaningful event because we get to meet amazing and inspiring children with their family and see, rst hand, what an impact our philanthropic work is making.

Chi Omega recognizes that its members and new members are students at the College of Charleston first. Each Chapter of Chi Omega has unique scholastic requirements and individual scholastic membership requirements that reflec our long-standing commitment to this Purpose.

For new members in Chi Omega, grades must be demonstrated before initiation in January.

Zeta Gamma has fun and interactive scholarship events which include Jeopardy and Majors/ Minors Workshops. We award our sisters for their scholastic achievements with scholarships, GPA dinner parties, as well as weekly gift’s at chapter for two special members who received A’s on exams the previous week.

The Zeta Gamma Chapter is proud to call Charleston our home and humbled to be able to share this campus with other outstanding greek organizations.

prominent part of our chapter is our philanthropy, which we are extremely passionate about. Our philanthropic focus is found in our partnership with St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This partnership allows Tri Delta chapters the opportunity to help St. Jude on a national level, as well as support traditional philanthropic events for local children’s cancer charities. One of our annual events here at the Alpha Nu chapter of Tri Delta is DHOP: A late night breakfast buffet for Charleston students, locals, and tourists to raise money for St. Jude.

We strive to be hands on within the community and make our difference on campus. (chocolate chip by request of course!), bacon, and juice, for hungry customers. It’s a great opportunity for our chapter to raise money, while having fun and bonding with our sisters. Other philanthropic events we host are a tennis tournament called “Delta Doubles,” and a writing letter event called “Sincerely Yours.”

Sisterhood is an incredibly important part of our chapter here at the College of Charleston. From late night study sessions in the library, to de-stressing with a Bachelor/Bachelorette viewing party at the house or cycle bar session, you will always

find yourself making amazing memories with your sisters. Our chapter emphasizes leadership, service, and our community. Each member of our chapter is involved in another club or organization on campus. We strive to be hands on within the community and make our difference on campus Besides from our philanthropy, service, and sisterhood, Tri Delta also hosts fun social events.

Each year following our exciting Big/Little reveal, we have one of our favorite social events of the year called “Sister Mister.” It is a semi-formal function in which the new big sisters select their little sisters’ dates, but the baby deltas do not meet their date until the night of the dance. It gives the new members the great opportunity to meet some new friends. Besides Sister Mister, we have two formals each year, monthly mixers with other Greek organizations, a spring oyster roast, and other events throughout the year, like a Valentine’s Day date party. Not only do we socialize with collegiate members, but also we have two events in which alumni are invited. We have a Founder’s Day dinner and Pansy Breakfast. These two events allow our current members to talk with and get to know some alumni of the Alpha Nu chapter.

The Alpha Nu chapter is living our purpose by establishing “a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way.”

n February of 2010, Delta Gamma dropped their anchor in the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina. Today, Delta Gamma is an international women’s fraternity that continues to place a strong dedication on personal values and standards, academic excellence, leadership and service. Delta Gamma encourages each member to strive for excellence and offers the programming and support to help each member reach that commitment.

Our philanthropy is Service for Sight. The Delta Gamma Foundation has given over $2,800,000 in Service for Sight grants to organizations and

Our annual philanthropic event, Anchor splash, has become a tradition on the College of Charleston campus stemming from its inaugural

year in 2011. Anchor Splash is a campus-wide competition, engaging members of the Greek Community and College of Charleston students in a full week of activities. This week of events not only strengthens our campus community, but it also gives our chapter the opportunity to educate others about our philanthropy.

Every fall we have hold formal with a live band at a unique venue and every spring we host our semi-formal, which features a DJ. From events like ice-skating and spinning classes, to movie nights at the house; our members always have the opportunity to enjoy sisterhood events together.

Delta Gamma is not just a sorority to those who are members; it is a sisterhood, a bond, and a home.

When you join Delta Gamma, you really do fin your home away from home and sisters for life. The unique joys of sisterhood found in Delta Gamma membership are boundless. Kappa Alpha Theta

T

he Zeta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta supports two philanthropies: one national and one local. The Thetas host two major events benefiting their national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA aims to help children in foster care have their voices heard in court. The advocates provide stability in the children’s lives and stay on their cases until the children find a permanent home. In the fall, the Thetas host a philanthropy week and invite members of Greek Life and other organizations at College of Charleston to join them in raising money for CASA. There are bake sales, cake a KAT, and a banner competition. At the end of the week,

During the spring semester, Kappa Alpha Theta hosts their annual silent auction, and 100% of the proceeds go to CASA. In previous years over $10,000 has been raised from this event.

The Zeta Lambda chapter also supports their local philanthropy, Water Mission. Water Mission builds water filtration systems in third world countries that are in desperate need of clean water. Every Thursday the Theta sisters have a table in Cougar Mall collecting donations and handing out treats.

In March, Water Mission has their Walk for Water event in which the sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta attend and walk together.

Socially, Kappa Alpha Theta hosts many date functions and mixers throughout each semester.

Theta loves hosting themed social events such as KAOchella and Theta Gras. During the fall semester is their semi-formal, which has been held in the French Quarter in the past years. In the spring semester, the sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta host Parents Weekend with a silent auction for CASA. Thetas end their spring semester by celebrating at their formal.

Academics are a top priority for Kappa Delta. The sorority provides members with the resources they need to be their best. Each chapter’s academic support program is customized by the chapter and its advisors. Programming options include study sessions, mentoring members in the same major, individual tutoring, incentives for good grades and more. Further, chapters hold an Academic Success Seminar at least twice during the year. Kappa Delta’s academic excellence focus is designed to grow with members throughout their college years, as their needs and areas of concern evolve.

The Kappa Delta Foundation supports our commitment to academics by awarding approximately $170,000 in scholarships, fellowships and grants each year to Kappa Delta sisters across the nation.

Created by Kappa Delta Sorority in 2009, the Confidence Coalition is an alliance committed to promoting self-confidence in girls and women so that they may feel empowered to overcome social barriers and be inspired to reach their greatest potential. Kappa Delta’s platform of confidence is the basis for the KD membership experience. Our two philanthropies include Girl Scouts of the USA and Prevent Child Abuse America. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. The same could be said for Kappa Delta as it relates to young women. With common values and a commitment to leadership development, Kappa Delta and Girl Scouts are sisters at heart. Darkness to Light is our local Charleston chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. Our chapter holds a Shamrock Golf Tournament each year to support Darkness to Light and PCAA.

Phi Mu

F

ounded in 1852, Phi Mu is a women's organization which provides personal and academic development, service to others, commitment to excellence and lifelong friendship through a shared tradition. Phi Mu promotes vibrant living, encouraging members to achieve their personal best.

The Alpha Kappa chapter of Phi Mu has been on the College of Charleston's campus for 78 years.

Through the years, it has become a strong, diverse chapter that strives to exude love, honor, and truth in everything it does. We pride ourselves on: sisterhood, scholarship, philanthropy, diversity, history, and tradition.

In regards to philanthropy, due to the hard work of one of our own who a new philanthropy option was presented to Phi Mu National Council; Phi Mu adopted Children's Miracle Network Hospitals as their national philanthropy in the 1980s. Every year

our sorority hosts an Oyster Roast in the fall which is open to friends and family to raise money. All proceeds go directly towards or local Children's Miracle Network Hospital right on Calhoun St. In the Spring, Phi Mu is one of College of Charleston’s largest CougarThon supporters and fundraisers.

Sisterhood should be one of the main reasons to join a sorority, especially Phi Mu! Without a doubt our chapter has a true sisterhood - one where everyone knows more than your name and where you can be yourself. Adjusting to a new group of girls can be tough, but in our new member program, there is no doubt that every new member will feel at home. We do activities such as Sisterhood Retreat in the fall, zumba classes, ropes courses, rollerblading/ice skating, movie nights, and beach days!

Phi Mu hosts multiple social events throughout the fall and spring semester. Mixers and date parties are typically themed socials at an outside venue with other sororities or fraternities. Some of the themes from our past mixers and date parties include: 80’s in Aspen, Out of This World, What Used to Be Cool, Vine Theme, and Greece v Grease to name just name a few. Oh! And who couldn’t forget Semi Formal in the fall, and Formal in the spring.

Sigma Delta Tau provides leadership opportunities for sisters by chairing a project, leading an intramural team, holding an executive board offic or managing

a fundraising campaign. Our women are encouraged to develop skills, embrace talents, and pursue incredible opportunities.

Every undergraduate chapter is actively involved in SDT’s mission to empower women! Through educational programming, community service, and fundraising events, our collegians supports sisters facing difficulties the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation, Prevent Child Abuse America, and several international organizations which empower women.

igma Kappa was founded in 1874 and found its way to Charleston in the fall of 2015! The mission of the Lambda Epsilon chapter of Sigma Kappa is to instill strong values to foster passion driven leaders for the future. The purpose of Sigma Kappa is to provide women with lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development by bringing women together to positively impact their communities. We uphold that purpose with our four values: personal growth, service, friendship, and loyalty.

Every year we rent out different venues in downtown Charleston and create memories that we will never forget.

Sigma Kappa has four philanthropies: Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Maine Sea Coast Mission, and Gerontology with a focus in Alzheimer’s. Nationally, Sigma Kappa is best known for our work with the Alzheimer’s Association.

We hold our annual Ultra Violet Campaign and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Last year, the Lambda Epsilon chapter raised over

10,000 and we were acknowledged as a top fundraiser! We pride ourselves on the work we do and service we provide to the Charleston area and communities worldwide.

There are always exciting events to attend with your sisters! We participate in beach clean-ups and we regularly have brunch and play games at the local nursing home. Big/Little reveal is one of the greatest times of the year for all of our members! It is one of the best opportunities for new members in our chapter to meet older members who they can look up to, hang out with, and create a lifelong friendship with. Some of our social events include our semi-formal in the fall and formal in the spring, along with socials throughout the semester with other Greek organizations on campus. We are incredibly passionate about our philanthropy, breast cancer education, awareness and survivor recognition. partnered with the National Football League (NFL), the American Cancer Society and Bright Pink. The Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation works to educate and spread awareness about breast cancer as well as provide $620,000 in scholarships annually, and to sponsor educational and leadership opportunities for our members.

As Zetas, we value sisterhood above all things. We have several sisterhood events every month, these include things like ice skating, paddle boarding, yoga, pop up shops and grab-and-go meals at the Zeta house. From movie nights after chapter to trips to the beach, whatever we are doing, we’re always happier doing it together as sisters.

One of our favorite events that we put on is our Family Affair date party. It is a tradition for your Big to pair you with a date for the evening. We also have themed socials with other Greek chapters on campus. In the past some of our themes were Great Gatsby, and Hometown Throwdown! We also had an awesome formal at a rooftop venue with a live band!
