WE BELIEVE GOD WORKS THROUGH PRAYER In this guide, you will learn about College Church’s supported ministry partners and become better equipped to pray for them. We believe that God works through prayer, and we invite you to participate in his mighty plan for the world in this way. The prayer guide is arranged into three sections: 1) Global Workers, 2) Global Partners and 3) Local Partners. Please join us in asking the Lord for strength, wisdom, endurance, faithfulness and fruitfulness for both the individuals and institutions in this prayer guide. We invite you to read through this guide in its entirety, as you pray for a ministry partner each day. Also, you might consider receiving the newsletter of a particular individual, personally connecting with them or supporting them. If you would like to get in touch with any of our ministry partners, our staff is more than happy to connect you. Please email missions@college-church.org or call (630) 668-0878. May the Lord bless you as you seek him in prayer.

I PRAY that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that

you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. EPHESIANS 1:18-19 (NIV)

He is also an investigator on the team that works to protect missionary children. Norm networks with many missions organizations and interacts with multiple government agencies, building relationships to partner with them in the event of a crisis for global missionaries.

• Pray for wisdom and strength as Norm resumes a heavy workload while incorporating a healthier lifestyle.

• Pray for Cathy as she supports Norm in his role, as well as their adult children.

ANITA DEYNEKA

(Missions Associate)

works with Mission Eurasia, serving primarily with A Family for Every Orphan (AFFEO). AFFEO helps to place orphans and vulnerable children in Christian families, rather than institutional care, whenever possible, by finding caring homes within their birth countries. AFFEO helps to further alliances between churches and organizations. The church is the center of this ministry; however, for children to receive the best care possible, it is essential to connect with government, social and judicial workers. She also travels to countries where the movement for a World Without Orphans has spread since it originated in Ukraine.

• Pray for wisdom to know how to best support and love the increased number of Ukrainian orphans at this time of war in that nation.

• Pray that Anita would rejoice in the Lord for the work he has given her to do.

13

STEVE & LOIS DRESSELHAUS serve with TEAM in La Paz, Mexico. They desire to see the people of their city transformed by Jesus. Bible studies, leading a neighborhood Patio church, participation in community events and investing lots of time with people are the methods used to build up a network of Patio churches which are easily accessible by their neighbors. Part of their ministry is directing the nonprofit they started called Reconciliamar, which “uses adventures at sea to transform lives.” Spending time kayaking, SCUBA diving and engaging in environmental care projects creates large blocks of time to invest with people and allows for the creation of long-term friendships based on shared experiences.

• Pray for their neighborhood, a traditional fishing community plagued with animosity and mistrust spanning generations. This creates a difficult barrier to cross if people are to be united as one in the church.

• Pray also that the network of Patio churches will grow and expand like the little mustard seed.

JOSHUA & KARA DUNCKEL live in Budapest, Hungary. Joshua leads the strategic collaboration team of ReachGlobal’s Europe division. His team works in the “white spaces” of Europe where their organization does not have teams on the ground, but where opportunities exist for them to support and work alongside European ministry leaders. His three main areas of focus are Ukraine refugee response, missions mobilization and building unity between churches and organizations. Their goal is always to see healthy churches multiplying across Europe and beyond. While Joshua serves across Europe, Kara works at home assisting Joshua, teaching and serving their community.

• Pray for wisdom and discernment for Joshua as he makes connections between ministry workers. Pray for Kara as she serves their family and community.

CALEB & MARISA DUTTWEILER serve with East Mountain, a Christian leadership development program in Cape Town, South Africa, that provides holistic training for young believers in theology, identity and mission, preparing them to be light in their communities. It does this through inviting people to participate in a variety of relationally driven, communitycentric, multicultural learning environments and

14

connecting and supporting existing ministry partnerships. Caleb also leads discipleship programs for young boys.

• Pray for them as they transition back to South Africa and begin slightly different roles, and pray for their two-year-old daughter Zoey to transition well.

• Pray for God-honoring connections and conversations. • Pray for wisdom as they discern how the Lord is leading them in different ministry opportunities while having healthy family rhythms.

ROD & KATHY DUTTWEILER co-founded the East Mountain leadership development (EM) initiative in South Africa but have moved their home base to Tennessee. Rod has invitations to train and develop leaders in partnership with other Christ-centered ministries in Africa. They come alongside pastors, missionaries and Christian leaders to serve them in areas of consulting, discipleship, encouragement and bringing resources to those in need. Rod continues to give oversight to the overall vision and direction of the EM global network. Both Rod and Kathy also disciple and mentor young leaders and missionary couples.

• Pray for guidance as they consider what trips to take internationally. • Pray for wisdom in how best to partner with other groups to serve and encourage God’s servants around the world.

• Pray that they would abide in Christ and out of their relationship with Christ, love and serve others well.

BOB & BECKY FABER serve with Salt Ventures in Sofia, Bulgaria. Bob is the president of Salt Ventures NFP, and Becky leads member care for the mission worldwide. The Fabers are involved in teaching, church planting, evangelism, leadership development and commu nity service. This year, the Pink Foundation, their ministry to children at risk, is launching Innovaid, a first-of-its-kind hospital volunteer program for Bulgarian youth. The Fabers are hopeful that this will yield community, medical and spiritual fruit in Bulgarian society.

• Praise God for the faithful prayer partners around the world who daily lift up the Fabers and their team.

• Pray for wisdom as Bob and Becky navigate their commitments and seek to do each ministry well.

15

Jake is director of partnerships and serves as a counselor at Cornerstone, which provides confidential and professional counseling, consultation and training from a Christian perspective for individuals, couples, families, teams and organizations. In 2022, they provided more than 5,000 hours of mental health services to 500 clients. Jake and Honah both grew up in missionary families and have hearts for serving the international community overseas.

• Pray for grace as Jake and Honah balance ministry, parenting and other demands of life.

• Pray for the Lord’s blessing on the continued work at Cornerstone for his glory.

JOE & HOLLY GREESON work in member care with SEND International in Alaska and northwest Canada. Based in Anchorage, Joe and Holly travel by road and plane to 21 different villages in the Far North. They encourage, connect, equip and pray for SEND workers and their families who are called by Jesus to live and make disciples in this region. They also have a special heart for missionary kids isolated in remote villages, who face many of the same issues as third-culture kids around the world.

• Pray for guidance as Joe and Holly navigate member care, leading the urban team and involvement in diaspora/ESL classes in Anchorage.

• Pray for them as they begin to consider retirement.

JON & KATHY HALEY have been serving in Spain with WorldVenture since 1996 in the areas of leadership development and mobilization. They have a deep burden for the authority of the Scriptures and the purity of the gospel message in local congregations around Spain (and the Spanish-speaking world). Their primary focus is to resource church leaders and support them in the ministry of expository preaching. They develop resources and provide training on their website (exegetica.net), online with the Escuela Evangélica de Teología and at the IBSTE seminary. They also translate theological and academic resources. Currently, they are in the midst of a twelve-year project to translate the

16

twenty-volume Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament into Spanish.

• Pray that the truth of the gospel will be proclaimed with authority and purity throughout the Spanish-speaking world.

• Pray also that the Holy Spirit will work mightily in the lives of their son and daughter-in-law, that they might love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength.

JIM & KATHY HANSEN serve with SIM at Ethnos360 Bible Institute (EBI) in Waukesha, Wisconsin, preparing prospective missionaries for service overseas. EBI provides Bible training with an emphasis on application in overseas ministry. Jim also travels regularly to Bolivia and other places around the world to teach modular courses. Kathy serves in their local church and is a special needs aide.

• Pray that Jim’s teaching at EBI will draw students into a deeper knowledge of God’s Word and a closer walk with Christ.

• Pray that the Lord will guide Jim in discerning which invitations he can accept to do Bible teaching outside of the US.

• Pray that the Lord will guide Kathy to special needs children who will be helped by her teaching and guidance.

JONATHAN & AMY HARRIS have worked with Operation Mobilization (OM) for 40 years. They first served with the OM ship ministry, but for the last 28 years have been based in Wales, UK, focusing on evangelistic outreach alongside local churches. This has involved outreach activities such as widespread school, sports and special needs ministry. Currently, a major focus is helping a new church in Grangetown, a multicultural area in the city of Cardiff. Other ongoing aspects of the work include regular street evangelism and mentoring young local evangelists.

• Pray for the Lord to continue to bless Grace Church in Grangetown so that the gospel would be furthered.

• Pray for their weekly street evangelism to cause more to come to know Jesus.

17

JIM & LYNETTE HATCHER have lived and served in Vienna, Austria, since 1986. Jim stepped down from regional leadership this year, after serving for more than 30 years in various leadership roles in Greater Europe Mission (GEM), in order to focus on local ministry in Austria, especially in their local Austrian church in preaching, leading Bible studies and discipling, as well as teaching and equipping Austrian believers and church leaders through BAO, an Austrian ministry training program, which was also the subject of his doctoral research. Lynette serves on a GEM team called Connecting Hearts, encouraging and connecting GEM women Europe-wide. She is also working alongside Jim in local ministry, discipling believers in their Austrian church and leading Bible Studies.

• Pray for close family members in the US who are dealing with cancer, and for Lynette’s only sister, whose husband just passed away at the age of 65.

• Pray for Jim to make good decisions in regard to his local church involvement. He has been asked to consider taking on new responsibilities.

• Pray also for the ministry training program as Jim increases his teaching and leadership involvement this year. Pray especially for new people to join the team before the current leaders retire.

SCOTT & JENNY HAWKINS

(Missions Associates)

serve with International Students, Inc. (ISI) in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. As one of ten ISI campus staff, Scott invests energy among nearly 4,000 international students and visiting scholars at Duke University. The team’s vision is for each student to encounter Christ, bringing glory to the living God and the transformation of nations. In addition to personal mentoring and discipleship, facilitating group activities/events, and supporting an “International Crossroads” fellowship, Scott works to integrate local volunteers in meaningful outreach.

• Praise for continued open doors for service and witness in the universities. • Pray for a tidal wave of curiosity in the gospel, especially among unreached Chinese, Indian and Muslim-background students.

18

JEFF & TAMARA HERSHBERGER have been with SEND International in Tokyo, Japan, since 2012. After serving in a Japanese-led church-planting effort for the last six years, they are serving in a church established by SEND. Jeff is part of the preaching team and speaks at other churches as the need arises. Together, they use English clubs as a means to serve and introduce the community to the church and, ultimately, to Jesus. Tamara, in addition to church-planting support, teaches seventh grade part-time at the Christian Academy in Japan. They have two sons.

• Pray for the churches in Japan, as they are finally able to resume normal ministry in person and community outreach after COVID.

• Pray for the Hershberger family to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:18) and to faithfully finish this term.

GREG & FAITH HURST work with SIM in Bolivia, focusing on discipleship through family ministry and church planting. In the church they helped to plant, Greg serves as an elder and helps to train the ministry team while Faith shepherds the leaders of the women’s and children’s ministries. The Hursts’ vision is to mobilize their congregation and other Bolivian churches to plant gospel-focused, disciple-making, missional churches that glorify God in their city, country and world (Acts 1:8). To this end, Greg is training a group of potential church planters with a goal to send out teams in the coming year. Faith is receiving specialized training to better equip and encourage the wives of these Bolivian church planters.

• Pray for the gospel to continue to sink deeper roots into the hearts and minds of those to whom they are ministering.

• Pray for clarity and energy to balance their ministry in Bolivia while staying connected with family in the States.

19

TODD & SUE KELLY What can we do to be a light and bring life to a dark and dying world? Todd serves globally, nurturing pastors who clearly and compellingly proclaim God’s word in Christ to transform the heart of the listener and grow a movement of those who see the beauty of Christ and follow him.

• Pray for God to remove the remaining sin from their own hearts and replace it with the beauty of his Son.

• Pray that God will strengthen them by his grace and grant them much wisdom for the many opportunities that are before them to train and mentor pastors.

SARA & MANU KLOPFENSTEIN minister in Nancy, France, with Youth For Christ, predominantly in the musical realm. Sara directs gospel choirs that are open to anyone wanting to sing that repertoire, including the unchurched, and also directs inter-church musical projects. Additionally, she helps with an inner-city ministry that offers a tutoring program. Sara’s husband, Emmanuel, manages a governmentfunded program for underage non-accompanied refugees. They are involved in a local Baptist church which allows for another opportunity for ministry with believers from around the world, including a young mother who recently converted from Islam.

• Pray for Sara to be a joyful encouragement to the youth she teaches through her gospel choirs and in their church.

• Pray for the Lord to grant Sara and Emmanuel wisdom as they continue to come alongside their kids (Olivia 23, Nathan 21 and Audrey 19). May the Lord give them discernment in their relationships with the churched and unchurched. And may He grant peace to Emmanuel in his stressful job situation.

STEVE & LOIS KROGH serve with Training Leaders International (TLI), where Steve is an international trainer on TLI’s formal side, working with national partners who have asked for assistance in starting a theological school. Their mission is to equip pastors and church leaders to be faithful expositors of God’s word, skillfully shepherding God’s people in their own culture. Steve has been asked to assume TLI co-director responsibilities at a South Asian church-based seminary that draws students from two countries. Upon

20

completion of their studies and multi-year internship, graduates are sent as church planters in challenging settings. Steve has taught two courses here previously and finds the students to be extremely bright, eager and fearless.

• Pray that God will watch over these students as they prepare, that their mentors will disciple them well and that the gospel will spread and triumph over opposition.

• Pray for Steve and Lois as they continue to serve at Christ Church in South Metro-Atlanta, that they would be wise mentors and encouragers.

WATCH Workers Some of our missionaries work in places where Christianity is not welcome. Governments, societies and cultures suppress religious freedoms and can sometimes endanger our missionaries and the people with whom they work. We protect these workers by guarding their identities so they can continue their ministry in places that need the light of Christ. TWO WORKERS serve in the Middle East in an area of more than two million people, the majority of which have no access to the gospel. However, there are incredible movements taking place among refugees and displaced persons in the country. It is this group of individuals they hope to serve during their two years of language learning. They work closely with local leaders, pastors and volunteers to meet the needs of national and immigrant populations in the country.

Since that time, the team has been able to share the Scriptures with thousands of individuals who lack access to the Word of God and Christian witness.

JOHN & PAM live in Africa, where they host a place of rest and renewal for global workers. The retreat opened four years ago and has ten fully equipped apartments, a prayer chapel and a newly completed swimming pool and splash pad. Teams come for times away to seek God together and to discover the next steps forward in their ministries. They also provide logistical support for Africa Inland Mission’s local unit. This includes remodeling houses for new workers, setting up solar systems on houses and helping keep vehicles on the road.

• Pray that Christian workers would find rest and rejuvenation in their time at the retreat.

• Pray that the retreat staff would grow in the knowledge of the Lord, and that there would be a strong replacement for John and Pam when they retire in two years.

Their organization’s goal is to make the Word available in every person’s heart language. The team currently has 77 active projects. They have two sons.

WATCH IN PRACTICE We assume that all mail and email correspondence could be read by someone else before it reaches our workers, and “that someone” is probably a government employee concerned about the political and religious stability of their country. For their protection, we refrain from using religious language or references using the names of God. Receiving emails is just as (if not more) encouraging for these Christians, and we would happily facilitate communication between you and our global workers serving in these places. We do ask that communication is sent through the missions office so that we can take an extra measure of safety and can have an extra set of eyes on what is passed along. If you would like for us to email one of our WATCH workers on your behalf, please reach out to our office at missions@collegechurch.org.

MIKE HERNBERG Serving with Reformed University Fellowship International, Mike’s focus group is international students and visiting scholars on the campus of Northwestern University (IL). His ministry to these students is to welcome them from around the world, share the message of the gospel with them, and for those who come to faith, to help them grow into mature disciples. Cru is an interdenominational Christian organization that meets on college campuses all over the world. Cru seeks to turn the lost into Christ-centered laborers, building students up in their faith and sending them out to reach others.
