“There’s quite a number of Aston Martin owners here in the Indianapolis area,” Leonard said. “It’s not a car that you see very much, and it’s not a car that you hear about very much, but it is an absolutely gorgeous vehicle that’s Mercedes-powered.”
Leonard added, “Aston [Martin] has a long history that goes back long before its ‘007’ cameos and has an exhilarating future when looking at its newest models, which are drop-dead gorgeous. There aren’t any local dealerships … the closest is in Chicago and the Columbus/Cincinnati areas, and we are working with the dealerships to bring cars in, along with local Aston Martin owners, to this year’s Artomobilia.”

CARMEL FARMERS MARKET IS MEETING COMMUNITY NEEDS
The Carmel Farmers Market committee has dedicated each season to selecting the state’s finest locally sourced produce and artisanal goods. In addition, the committee makes a deliberate effort to include vendors who offer products tailored to specific dietary needs, reflecting the community’s growing diversity and focus on
Whether it’s gluten-free baked goods, vegan options or organic produce, providing these choices not only broadens the market’s appeal but also meets the essential needs of a wide array of customers.
FOSTERING A SENSE OF COMMUNITY THROUGH FOOD
One of the key reasons for offering dietary-specific products is the growing number of individuals with food allergies and intolerances. According to the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) organization, millions of Americans suffer from food allergies, with gluten intoler-
ance and lactose intolerance among the most common. By offering products that cater to these needs, CFM vendors help ensure that all customers can enjoy safe, delicious food without the risk of adverse reactions. This inclusivity fosters a sense of community and makes the farmers market a welcoming place for everyone.
In addition to food allergies, there is an increasing awareness of the benefits of specialized diets for overall health and wellness. Diets such as vegan, vegetarian, keto and paleo have gained popularity for their potential health benefits, including weight management, improved digestion and reduced risk of chronic diseases. CFM vendors who offer products aligned with
these diets not only meet the demand but also contribute to the well-being of their customers. This commitment to health-conscious offerings enhances the CFM’s reputation as a destination for wholesome, nutritious foods.
Providing products for specific dietary needs supports local farmers and small businesses in an impactful way. Vendors specializing in gluten-free, organic or vegan products often source their ingredients from local farms, which strengthens the local economy and promotes sustainable agriculture. This symbiotic relationship between vendors and farmers helps preserve traditional farming practices while encouraging innovation in food production. As a result, the entire community benefits from a robust and resilient local food system.
“Inclusivity is the heart of a thriving farmers market,” CFM Market Manager Susan Bock expressed. “Food plays a crucial role in the well-being of individuals with specific needs, as it not only provides essential nutrients for physical health but also supports cognitive function and emotional stability. When we recognize different dietary needs, we cultivate not just quality food products but a vibrant community where everyone has access to fresh, nourishing choices. By prioritizing nutrition, we empower individuals with special needs to lead healthier, happier lives.”
CFM vendors who offer alternative food products are:
• AMERICAN DREAM NUT BUTTERS... all nut butters are gluten-free
• EAT SURREAL... all products are dairy, nut and gluten-free
• LIVE Project… all health drinks are sugar-free
• Native Bread... all baked goods are gluten-free and allergen-free
• No Label at The Table... offers vegan baked goods that are gluten and dairy-free
• Pure Eating Way... all foods are plant-based

Rock from the ’60s and ’70s
CENTER PRESENTS: THE PALLADIUM
ET GRAND FUNK RAILROAD
// SATURDAY, OCT. 19, 8 P.M.
Marking 55 years since its formation in 1969 in Flint, Michigan, Grand Funk Railroad is “comin’ to your town (to) help you party it down.” In its ’70s heyday, the band packed arenas worldwide with its hard-driving sound and Top 40 hits, including “We’re an American Band,” “I’m Your Captain/Closer to Home,” “The Loco-Motion” and “Some Kind of Wonderful,” which remain in regular rotation on classic-rock radio. On this tour, original members Don Brewer (vocals and drums) and Mel Schacher (bass) lead a five-piece band of rock veterans whose credits include .38 Special, Robert Palmer and Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band.
Purchase your tickets at thecenterpresents.org.
Janelle Morrison: How’s the tour going?
Don Brewer: It’s great! We’re kind of the weekend guys doing 41 shows so far this year, and, you know, it’s enough for us. We’re getting up there. [Laughing] We’re not like the young guys that get on a bus and do 120 shows, but it’s going really well!
JM: I’m curious, what are your audiences like now that differ from years past?
DB: A lot of people are reminiscing for sure. Then there’s a lot of people that are new to [our music]. We get generations of people that are curious about Grand Funk, and they’re like “Oh, yeah, they did that song,” and then they come to a show
and they’re blown away. It’s a combination between the two things, and it’s a nice blend.
We start out with “Rock & Roll Soul,” which was not a huge song for Grand Funk but still is a song that people from that era know, and go into “Footstompin’ Music” and then “Shinin’ On,” and by the time we get to “The Loco-Motion,” we’ve got people dancing on the floor in [a] conga line! You can tell they’re having the time of their life, and it’s a ball … it really is.
JM: Decades later, did you guys ever think these hits would still impact people as deeply as they do?
DB: No. We had absolutely no inkling. “We’re an American Band” and “Loco-Motion” were hits, and we were going after that. “I’m Your Captain” and [the album] “Closer to Home” came along in a time period where we were making albums and weren’t focused on single hits. We could make seven-minute songs and still get played on FM radio. It all changed in 1972 when all the FM radio stations were getting bought up, and they hired consultants that told the [radio] jockeys what to play, and every song had to be three minutes long so the radio station could play more commercials and make more money. So, we had to start making hit records and hit singles, and I started doing a little more songwriting. We had no idea that “Loco-Motion” and “American Band” would still be around today and that people would know them. They played “We’re an American Band” on the opening day of the Olympics in Paris, and we were like, “Wow!” I would have never dreamt of it.
JM: I remember reading that you guys were heading down to play at the inaugural Atlanta Pop Festival, which had an iconic lineup, and you had a mishap with the U-Haul trailer.
DB: You did do some digging [laughing]. We were kind of a nobody [band], and Woodstock had been earlier that year, so it was a big deal for pop festivals. Atlanta launched their first international pop festival, and so we borrowed a van, rented a U-Haul trailer and hauled our stuff down to Atlanta. We were all in the van and were going to miss a turn, and when we tried to make it, the trailer rolled over, and our equipment went flying all over the interstate [laughing]. We picked up all of our stuff and finally made it to the festival. It must have been 100 degrees. There were 30,000 people in front of the stage, and they were hosing everybody down to stay cool.
We started playing, and two to three songs in, the audience started going crazy. They loved the band, and so we got invited back the next day, and the day after, and everybody was saying, “You’ve got to see Grand Funk.” We were the talk of the festival, and it was pretty cool.
JM: Having observed a lot of evolutions in the music industry, what are your thoughts on the industry today? And does technology like AI help or hurt the artists’ longevity?
DB: It’s just a whole new way of doing things. It’s all on the internet, basically, and people are just giving [their music] away to get noticed. Back in the day, we would put together a recording and go around knocking on all the radio stations’ doors, trying to get a jockey to play it. It’s a whole different scene today. I kind of look at music today as being disposable. I think people treat it as disposable, and for us [GFR], it was a treasure. It really was. I think music today is like a piece of candy that people chew and then move on to the next one.
I probably sound very old, but I don’t see these newer acts being around for 50
years. I just don’t. My God, just look at the Eagles, and the music they created is just so great … people can’t get enough of it. I just don’t hear that in the music and artists today.
JM: Out of the countless experiences you all have had as a band, can you think of one that stands out as the “rock n’ roll fantasy” come true?
DB: Undoubtedly, when we played Shea Stadium. We sold out faster than the Beatles. It was a true “pinch-me, is-this-real” moment. I was probably 21 at the time, and there we were in helicopters flying over Shea Stadium, looking down at Humble Pie, who was our opening act. We were ushered onto the stage, and the crowd went crazy. I’ll never forget it!
JM: Other than excellent music, what can we expect to experience when you come to Carmel to perform?
DB: We play all the Grand Funk hits, and we love to get everybody involved and up on their feet, smiling and dancing … having a great time. So, everybody can come out and expect to see a great show!

Connecting With People Through Porsche
Writer // Janelle Morrison • Photography // Jason Lavengood, Luke Wolfla and submitted
Building community through food and fellowship is just the beginning for Adam Hoffman, the owner and founder of Big Hoffa’s Smokehouse in Westfield. Hoffman is not only passionate about bringing people and families together around the table but also about connecting them through his love of collectible cars—specifically, the Porsche marque.
A PENCHANT FOR PORSCHE
Hoffman has been collecting various Porsche models over the last decade and is a regular exhibitor at Artomobilia’s Porsche Palooza, sponsored by Tom Wood Porsche.
“I fell in love with the brand when I bought a four-door Panamera,” Hoffman shared. “I used to be a muscle car guy and had a ’71 Chevelle that took me 20 years to restore. I had a guy offer me a [Porsche] GT3 for my Chevelle, and I took his advice, took the car, and was sold [on Porsche]. I was like, ‘It can’t get any better than the Panamera,’ then I drove the GT3 and was like, ‘It can’t get any better than the GT3,’ and then the search was on. I started searching for older, classic, air-cooled Porsches.”
Hoffman continued, “At the time, it wasn’t the market that it is now; Porsches were easier to find, and nobody wanted the crazy colors that I love. I got into the Porsche market early … not as early as [Jerry] Seinfeld did. He did the smart thing and bought original one-of-one race cars from Porsche. I wish I had done that. I found some great deals and good cars, and I slowly started to build a collection. I fell in love with the air-cooled division and focused most of my purchases on the early ’90s, ’89-94. The 964 versions were my favorite. I have a 1990 964 [Viper Green] that is my favorite. I love the carburetion, the smell and the feel of that raw car. You’re driving this beautiful piece of artwork on the road, but it feels like you’re in a muscle car, so for me, it’s the best of both worlds.”
One of Hoffman’s unique finds includes a Porsche RWB, a customized, wide-body Porsche 911 built by Japanese tuner Akira Nakai—with an interesting provenance.
“A buddy of a buddy who has a friend whose uncle’s sister knows this guy, who ended up being the tour manager for Guns N’ Roses,” Hoffman joked. “This guy had a massive collection of cars, and he sold me one of his RWBs. I had a friend in California take a look at it, and I ended up bringing it here [Indiana]. I’ve had it for four years, and it’s pretty cool.”
his favorite Porsches at Artomobilia this year. It is also a time for him, his family and friends to gather together and enjoy a day of showing cars and sharing stories.
“I think Artomobilia is amazing,” Hoffman said. “I tell as many people as possible about it every year, and we don’t miss it for anything. We plan our vacations around this one event. I have all my buddies come to my house to drive my cars to the event, and it’s a fun experience. It takes me two weeks to get the cars show-ready, and my buddies and I tune them and clean them up … it’s just such a cool event and a huge day for us. For us, the joy is immeasurable when young kids come up and talk about the cars, and
their picture taken. They’re ecstatic, and truly, that’s what all this is about for me. It’s that level of happiness you bring to people with these cars.”
Hoffman added, “John [Leonard] and his team do a very good job of bringing all these different kinds of cars and people together for one day, and we have a blast every year we’re there. We just can’t wait for it.”
Hoffman has been the proud owner of his smokehouse for 22 years. Big Hoffa’s Smokehouse is located at 800 E. Main Street in Westfield, Indiana, and is proudly catering the upcoming Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge at Motor District on Friday, September 6, as an extension
a ticketed event, and more information is available online at motor-district.com/ activities.
“We love what we’re doing, and [the smokehouse] is my passion,” Hoffman shared. “We started in a food truck and moved to a small building, and then we expanded, and expanded to where we are now, 22 years later. It’s just crazy, but we are honored to do what we do and to be a part of the community. We try to give back as much as we can. We are in the

The Inaugural
Artistry andLuncheonElegance

Artomobilia has long celebrated the artistry of automobiles, drawing enthusiasts from all corners to admire the intricate designs and engineering marvels on display. This year, the event’s organizers are excited to introduce a new dimension to this iconic gathering—an exclusive experience crafted especially for the ladies.
THE INAUGURAL LADIES LUNCHEON
rtistry and Elegance,” a sophisticated ladies’ luncheon, is poised to become a new highlight of Artomobilia. On Saturday, Sept. 7, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Anthony’s Chophouse will be transformed into a haven of refined tastes and elegant ambiance. Attendees will be invited to step away from the main event’s hustle and bustle to enjoy an afternoon of indulgence and inspiration. This is more than just a luncheon;
it is a chance to immerse oneself in the finer arts that perfectly complement the automotive excellence showcased at Artomobilia.
Stephanie Chen Kim, local philanthropist and chief administrative officer of Telamon, along with Mayor Sue Finkam, will be the featured speakers at this event. Attendees will enjoy a specially prepared lunch at Anthony’s Chophouse while hearing from these distinguished leaders. But the experience doesn’t end with lunch. Your ticket to “Artistry and Ele-
gance” also includes VIP access to the Evans May Wealth VIP area at 3UP for complimentary drinks in the afternoon. This added perk ensures that the day’s enjoyment extends beyond the luncheon, offering a seamless transition back into the vibrant festivities of Artomobilia.
Attendees are encouraged to embrace resort-casual attire, allowing for a relaxed yet chic experience. This dress code perfectly complements the event’s ambiance, striking a balance between comfort and elegance.
PUTTING THE ART IN ARTOMOBILIA
This year’s “Artistry and Elegance” Luncheon hosts, Caroline Abeleda and Liza Najem, are thrilled to have organized an event that not only collaborates with local arts organizations to raise awareness of the importance of the arts but also brings together a group of remarkable women for an upscale luncheon during the main event, Artomobilia. The luncheon’s attendees will include those who support [Artomobilia] as spouses or partners of automotive enthusiasts, as well as those who are enthusiasts themselves.
“We wanted to create a special opportunity for the women involved with Artomobilia, whether they’re actively a part of the car show or are car enthusiasts themselves,” Abeleda shared. “We saw an opportunity to have a dedicated event specifically for these ladies. Liza [Najem] and I are longtime friends, and our husbands [John Leonard and Anthony Najem] have been great supporters and participants of Artomobilia, so we decided to partner together to host such an event.”
Abeleda added, “Liza and I envisioned an event that would focus on the arts and put the ‘art in Artomobilia,’ specifically
the Indianapolis Opera performing during the luncheon. Our keynote speaker will be Stephanie Kim, who has been very active with the arts community and is married to Young Kim, a sponsor and fellow car enthusiast. Both are big supporters, and Stephanie will speak on the importance of the arts. Mayor Finkam will be speaking to the importance of arts in our community as well.”
Abeleda continued, “We are excited that Anthony’s Chophouse is the venue for this luncheon because it is a great location, and it will be an exhilarating culinary experience for our guests. The venue sets the tone for this inaugural luncheon and is a sophisticated backdrop for the heart of the Artomobilia Saturday events.”
Following the luncheon, Caroline Abeleda shared that guests are invited upstairs to the Evans May space for cocktails and conversation. They can enjoy this time alongside their spouses, partners and fellow Artomobilia enthusiasts.
ARTOMOBILIA IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT
Artomobilia isn’t just for adults and car enthusiasts; it’s an event that the entire family can enjoy, drawing in multiple generations to create lasting memories together.
“I am a mom of four and grandmother of six and am married to an extreme car enthusiast,” Najem shared. “It goes back to when my husband [Anthony] was turning 50 and I wanted to do something special
for him. Caroline suggested that I take him to Pebble Beach for the Concours d’Elegance. That was my real first ‘car show.’ You haven’t been to a ‘real’ car show until you’ve been to a concours, and Pebble Beach is spectacular. That was in 2008, and the enthusiasm has trickled down to my children and my grandchildren. Artomobilia is a family-friendly, multigenerational draw to the Arts & Design District in Carmel.”
Najem added, “We are looking forward to expanding the arts component into Artomobilia, and this luncheon provides us an opportunity to bring in beautiful vocal and performing arts along with dynamic speakers. Our goal is that we will be able to add something different and special each year going forward that will incorporate all aspects of the arts while focusing on the area in Carmel as much as we can.”
Seats for the inaugural Artistry and Elegance Luncheon are extremely limited to 50, so register for your seat as soon as possible at artomobilia.org.
Join the Jack Harvey and Invst Team Indy 500 Team
Writer // Janelle Morrison • Photography // Courtesy of Invst
Invst and IndyCar driver Jack Harvey have partnered up to offer local businesses a unique opportunity to join their team. Through this exciting program, businesses can become sponsors of Harvey’s car at next year’s Indianapolis
MEET OUR HONORARY HOOSIER, JACK HARVEY
Atwo-time INDY NXT by Firestone championship run ner-up, British driver Jack Harvey joins Dale Coyne Racing for 2024. He is among the drivers who have won on both the oval and road courses at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with wins on both circuits in 2015 while racing in INDY NXT. Harvey has ten racing championship wins in his career, including the British Formula 3 title in 2012. Away from the track, Harvey enjoys baking, target shooting, watching Star Wars and Marvel movies, and watching soccer and American football.
Harvey’s team, Dale Coyne Racing, is entering its 41st season of competition and has a long and storied history in INDYCAR SERIES racing. Starting in 1984 as an own-
er/driver, Dale Coyne ran seven seasons in CART. In 1990, he focused his efforts on the tutelage of several up-and-coming drivers and skilled drivers like Harvey.
Racing is an expensive endeavor, with the cost of putting together a driver’s program largely dependent on sponsorships. Many businesses might assume that such opportunities are out of reach, reserved only for big-name brands. However, Scott and Laura Jarred, owners of Invst, have partnered with Jack Harvey to create a program that makes sponsorship more accessible. This initiative allows local businesses to be a part of Harvey’s journey, offering them a chance to sponsor his ride at the Indianapolis 500.
“A lot of this idea came from Scott and Laura with Invst,” Harvey said. “I’ve been building a fantastic relationship with them from both a personal side and, recently, a working side. They brought their idea to my attention a few months ago, and as a company, Invst is a sponsor of our IndyCar, which we are extremely appreciative of. Then the conversation turned into how we can use the car to pull more awareness to it and what [local] events have a lot of natural synergies.”
One of these events where Invst and Harvey plan to engage people is Veloce. Veloce is part of Artomobilia Weekend and will be held on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m. at the Jet Access Center at the Indianapolis Executive Airport in Zionsville.
Harvey shared, “Our IndyCar will be on display at Veloce, and we’ll be there to share what our goals and objectives are as well as share with people how we’re expanding to the local community and what great things Invst is doing as a company. It’s pretty rare that you get to see local companies go and compete against national ones at sporting events because quite often, it’s the national companies that have the resources to sponsor race cars, but in this moment, we’re fortunate that Invst is continuing to support our Indy 500 program and future racing endeavors. I think being at Veloce will allow us to connect with people locally and see if anybody wants to go on this crazy adventure with us!”
NOT YOUR TYPICAL FINANCIAL PLANNERS
Invst believes traditional thinking has limited your potential for far too long, and that your mindset is more important than money in reaching your full financial potential.
Invst was born in June 2016, even though its team has been in business since 2003. Its team members broke free from the shadows of the financial institutions. Invst’s focus is to implement financial strategies that radically help its clients. Invst is a true fiduciary with no contractual obligations to peddle industry products.
Invst CEO Scott Jarred and his wife Laura shared their thoughts on Jack Harvey and why they believe teaming up
with Harvey is a solid move that will reap more than just financial benefits for the racing team but will also provide impactful opportunities for the local business community.
“When we met [Jack], he was a client of Invst and was just a ball of energy, wanting very much to take the racing industry by storm,” Scott shared. “He’s had great success everywhere on every level. We had come to find out that racing is not a profitable endeavor for a lot of these drivers, and it’s about how much money you bring to the table that generates any value to a team, essentially. There’s this whole business development component to it. Jack told us that if he didn’t get any help from sponsors, he didn’t think he’d be able to get back on the track this year, and we said, ‘We think you’re a really good driver, and there are drivers out there not as good as you who are able to drive because they have sponsorships. So, that’s how this whole conversation got started.”
Scott added, “For me, you look at the Indy 500, and it’s the biggest spectacle in racing. You see these huge brands and sponsors that you have no access to. So, what we’re trying to do is say, ‘Look, the average Indiana-based business or anybody that wants to play in this space can do it, and there’s actually a model and a platform for it. You can build business-to-business relationships the way the big brands have done it.”
Scott continued, “Jack has taught me that you have to have more exposure and education. Building an IndyCar experi ence is going to take this league to the next level. As a sponsor, when you sit in the pits and watch the cars go around the track, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen.”
The Jarreds shared some of Harvey’s qualities as a person and as a race car driver that compelled them to become a sponsor of his IndyCar and to sign on with this new endeavor.
Scott said, “Jack is consistent, doesn’t wreck, he’s relatable, and he’s got the ‘it’ factor. As a sponsor, I’m looking for someone who’s genuine, down-to-earth and actually cares about people. Jack is all of these.”
Laura added, “When I first spoke with Jack, it was amazing. We attended the [2024] Grand Prix [of Indianapolis], and we were in the garages. Jack was showing our kids the car and how the steering wheel worked. He was super down-to-earth and wanted these kids to understand the car and fall in love with the sport. He’s so relatable. We’ve done a lot of fun trips as a family, but that day was an epic day that we will never forget, and our kids will remember spending the day on the side of the track watching the Invst car go by. From a business perspective, I truly think the Indy 500, as far as sponsorship is concerned, the B2B opportunities are priceless. We believe, 100%, that Jack will be back on the podium soon, and by getting sponsors behind him through this program, we believe there will be a success for everyone involved.”
Mark your calendars and purchase your tickets to this year’s Veloce. Be sure to stop by the Invst IndyCar to learn more about Invst, Jack Harvey, and how to become part of the team!

CELEBRATING THE PORSCHE BRAND
Porsche Cars of North America (PCNA) Area Operations Manager, Area South/ Central Peter Sanford shared the details behind the restoration challenge.
“We are looking forward to being part of Artomobilia this year,” Sanford stated. “Our local Tom Wood Porsche dealer has participated for a number of years [to sponsor Porsche Palooza], and we’ve seen photos of [Artomobilia], so we’re excited to be part of it in person. We hold this competition for our dealerships, and they choose a project car, taking full advantage of the Porsche Classic program, which is our internal term for the parts support that we have for all of our older models.”
Sandford continued, “They basically rehab the project car and then present it to one of the three area [judging] events. The Porsche dealership network is divided into three areas: East, South/Central and West. We have hosted the [South/ Central] contest in Atlanta for the last two
years and had been looking for another automotive-themed event, and Artomobilia seemed like a perfect fit for us. We will have 12 to 14 project cars from 10 to 12 participating dealers coming from Florida, Texas, Minnesota, Indianapolis and all over. We have three different categories: Preservation, Restoration and Individualization. We will have vehicles representing
each of those [categories], and our plan is to judge the cars on Friday at the Motor District Private Garages, and then we will announce the winners of the judging contest at Artomobilia on Saturday.”
Sanford explained that there will be a “People’s Choice” award determined by the attendees of Artomobilia, who will vote on their favorite car.
“All four [winning] cars will go to a national judging event, which will be held at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on October 4, and then we will have the ‘best of the best’ from all three [Porsche] areas there to be judged. The competition is intended to promote the classic program, and our goal is to provide OEM parts for these classic cars. Our end goal is to make sure that we’re keeping these cars in drivable condition and on the road. It’s a pretty cool program, and you don’t see that kind of support for older vehicles from a lot of other manufacturers.”

PRESERVATION:
The Preservation category is intended to keep the original components of the vehicle present, enhancing the vehicle to improve its overall function while not restoring it to like-new condition. For instance, minor paint correction versus a full vehicle repaint. Another example would be steaming and refreshing seat covers versus replacing them. Entrant vehicles must average a minimum of 2,500 miles/year since production or a total minimum of 70,000 miles. Also, Entrant vehicles may only have a maximum of 25% of the vehicle exterior repainted.
RESTORATION:
The Restoration category is for those projects going through a true restoration process, not only restoring a vehicle to the road but returning it to like-new condition. Vehicles in the Restoration category will be most closely aligned with original production specifications.
INDIVIDUALIZATION:
Based on the Porsche Sonderwunsch program, the Individualization category is for those entries that fulfill a special wish. This is the category for the creative. However, use of genuine parts and remaining street legal still apply.
