OCFostering a sense of belonging!

When we discuss a sense of belonging, we delve into the feeling of being accepted and connected within a specific group, community, or environment. The essence of belonging revolves around being seen, understood, and integrated into a community. It's this foundational principle that can elevate a company from merely functioning to truly thriving.

In our chamber, we strive to cultivate an environment where every member feels respected and included, without discrimination. This inclusivity carried in individual companies can enhance morale and productivity and strengthen our collective business community, fostering robust networks and support systems.

This month, I am committed to reinforcing this sense of belonging by enhancing our initiatives aimed at supporting you, our members. We are developing tailored resources and networking opportunities designed to meet the unique needs of your businesses, ensuring you feel valued and connected.

Moreover, by nurturing a connected business environment, we see reductions in turnover and absenteeism and a boost in collaboration and innovation. These are critical elements that contribute significantly to sustained business growth and competitive advantage.

As we move forward, I encourage all members to engage with our events. Your active participation is key to not only your success but to the vibrancy and resilience of our entire business community.

Let's stay connected and make this a reality!

Does The Language Women Use Hold Them Back?

Have

you ever noticed what sort of language you use in the workplace?

If you're a man, you might notice that you use phrases that are direct and assertive, such as, "Based on my experience...", "I'm confident that...", or "We need to...".

Conversely, if you're a woman, you may find yourself using words that are more collaborative and inclusive language.

Why does this happen?

Many women in the workplace adopt 'soft language' to reduce perceptions of being too direct and assertive to avoid seeming 'bossy'.

In fact, the more a woman advances in her career, the more often they 'soften' their language. Over two-thirds of women in senior or executive roles say it's important to be well-liked, rather than in control.

What does this mean for women in the workplace, and what can we do about it?

CBCC NIGHT TIME

ECONOMY EVENT

Bankstown recently celebrated its burgeoning nighttime economy with the vibrant Business After Five event, drawing attention to the area's rich cultural and commercial activities that come alive after dark.

The evening was a showcase of the diverse attractions Bankstown has to offer, ranging from delicious food offerings to exciting cultural exhibitions. Local businesses and councils are actively involved in promoting the region's nightlife, which is not only a boost for the economy but also a push towards a more connected and culturally rich community life. The event demonstrated the collaborative efforts of the Canterbury-Bankstown City Council and the Canterbury-Bankstown Chamber of Commerce to enhance and promote nighttime activities.

The push towards more inclusive nighttime economies is supported by urban planning initiatives that promote safety, accessibility, and diversity.

This event not only celebrated the current successes but also set the stage for future growth. It was a testament to Bankstown's vibrant community spirit and its potential to evolve as a dynamic hub for culture, cuisine, and entertainment, enriching the lives of its residents and attracting visitors from across New South Wales and beyond.

Lakemba Nights during Ramadan this year significantly attracted more attendees than the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The event, celebrated in the Bankstown region, drew over 1.4 million visitors, surpassing the Easter Show's turnout, making it one of the most significant cultural events in the area

This celebration not only highlights the vibrant cultural diversity of Bankstown but also underscores the community's ability to draw substantial crowds, contributing positively to the local economy.

One of the significant shifts is towards creating more inclusive and diverse nighttime offerings that cater to a wider audience, including families and individuals seeking alcohol-free environments. Events like Lakemba Nights during Ramadan showcase how food, culture, and community can be powerful draws that contribute significantly to the local economy without centering around alcohol

BUSINESS AFTER FIVE

As part of the event, local entrepreneurs, like Carol from Carol's Balloons, had the opportunity to connect with the community and showcase their services, which play a significant role in local celebrations and events. These interactions highlight the importance of small businesses in contributing to the area's economy and social fabric.

A massive thank you to our Special Guest The Hon. John Graham, moderator Bill Parasiris, and our panel speakers Andy Sharp, Angela Bonnefin, Michael Rodrigues, Superintendent Adam Johnston and Michael Clancey.

Program Testimonial

The decision to join the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce has been the best choice for my personal and business growth As a startup business owner facilitating student well-being programs in schools for students transitioning from primary to high school, I aimed to build relationships with like-minded individuals and gain knowledge on business development.

Attending four BRAVE sessions - focusing on CANVA, Entrepreneurship, Microcredentials, and Marketing has provided invaluable insights into improving visibility and identifying opportunities. Moreover, participating in the BRAVE movement has highlighted the importance of empowering women to pursue their dreams and uplift others facing similar challenges confidently. Thank you for providing such informative workshops
