OPower of Partnership: Driving Community Prosperity
I am honoured to share with you the incredible power of our partnership between the chamber, the community, and the local council. Together, we create a dynamic synergy that drives sustainable development and prosperity for all.
Effective collaboration ensures community needs and concerns are addressed, leading to greater public satisfaction and involvement. Partnering with the chamber attracts businesses and investments, fostering economic development and job creation.
A united community navigates challenges and adapts to changes, whether economic shifts or environmental issues. Joint initiatives improve local infrastructure, benefiting everyone with better transportation, utilities, and public spaces. Our united front lobbies more effectively for state or federal support, amplifying our community's voice in larger political arenas.
Partnerships promote cultural events and initiatives that celebrate our heritage and diversity, enriching our community’s cultural landscape. Supporting education and youth development provides better opportunities for our younger generation, fostering long-term growth and resilience.
Working together promotes local attractions and events, boosting tourism and stimulating our economy. Such partnerships foster a spirit of volunteerism and civic participation, inspiring residents to take an active role in their community.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this vision a reality. Your dedication and commitment make our community thrive.

Building Futures: Youth Expo

When focusing on our youth, it is essential to see each young person as an individual with unique potential, rather than simply as part of a demographic or societal structure.
Recognising their inherent worth and individuality fosters an environment of respect, support, and encouragement. This approach helps young people to develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging, which are crucial for their personal growth and future success.
The event was graced by the presence of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, several councillors, and the local State member for East Hills, Kylie Wilkinson MP. The Bulldogs made an appearance, adding excitement to the day. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Multicultural NSW for their contribution to this successful expo.
This event is a celebration of the CBCC CEO for a Day initiative, aimed at inspiring students by showcasing the reality of local senior executives. In a brief description, The Youth Expo is a 360-degree platform for youth to engage connect and enquire.

With over 50 stalls showcasing local businesses, community groups, educational institutions, and sports groups, attendees can explore job, volunteer, and apprenticeship opportunities.

2024 Youth Expo Stall Holders

Charbel Mehanna, a proud member of the CBCC Youth Committee and a student at Western Sydney University Bankstown Campus, delivered an inspiring speech at the event.
In his speech, Charbel emphasised the importance of equipping youth with essential skills, resources, and opportunities to thrive and contribute positively to society. He outlined several key aspects of youth empowerment, including providing quality education and vocational training, offering leadership and jo opportunities, facilitating platforms for youth to voice their opinions, ensuring access to healthcare and mental health services, and encouraging innovation and creativity.
Charbel highlighted that empower youth both benefits individuals and strengthens communities, drives social and economic progress, and crucial for fostering a brighter futu
He concluded with a call to action, urging everyone to work together to create a world where youth are prepared to face future challenges and build a more inclusive society.
The youth committee's speech resonated deeply with the audience, underscoring the collective effort needed to support young people and the pivotal role of youth empowerment in building a better future.
The CBCC Youth Expo is just another good example of working together attitude. The CBCC 2024 Youth Expo has been a second-year success in nurturing and building a strong foundation and connections for young people, and we will continue to work together to make it bigger and better!

Gratitude toward everyone involved

WITNESSING DEMOCRACY IN ACTION ON BUDGET DAY

Visiting Parliament on Budget Day is a flurry of activity, speeches, and discussions about economic priorities and allocations. Our Chamber Members joined us, eager to understand how the new budget cuts and incentives will impact their operations and growth.
The insights gained from these discussions are invaluable, providing clarity on the government’s direction and the economic environment we will navigate.
Our members engaged with policymakers, shared their perspectives, and built connections that can influence future policy decisions. The collaborative atmosphere underscored the importance of having a voice in the legislative process and highlighted the mutual benefits of open dialogue between the business community and government officials.
We extend our gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce Patrons, The Hon. Jason Clare MP, The Hon. David Coleman, Member for Banks, and their dedicated staff for hosting us. Their support and hospitality made this insightful experience possible.

Power Up Your Career With Digital Literacy
In today's digital world, being able to use technology with confidence is no longer optional, it's essential.
Our world's digital transformation has opened unprecedented avenues for economic empowerment. Digital tools such as the Internet, mobile technology, and digital financial services make it easy for anyone to leapfrog traditional barriers, earn additional income, increase employment opportunities, and access knowledge and general information.
Although this seems like a great opportunity to encourage greater gender equality in the labour market and build a more inclusive world through technology, it is far from reality.

In Australia, women are more likely to be digitally excluded than men. Why is it so important for women to become digitally literate, and how can they do so?

Today, 6th June 2024 was an incredibly rewarding experience as I, Jo Johnston, Director of Collappor8, joined Clare Pearson, CEO of Little Wings, to deliver an insightful information session at the Centre for Volunteering NSW State Conference 2024. Our session, titled "Empowering Volunteers: Building Mutually Beneficial Relationships," was a resounding success
We engaged with a vibrant audience of passionate individuals dedicated to making a difference through volunteerism Sharing our expertise and experiences, we highlighted the importance of fostering strong, mutually beneficial relationships between organisations and their volunteers Storytelling captures our wins and losses, we hope to create a powerful narrative that inspires and connects us.
The enthusiasm and positive feedback from attendees were truly inspiring, reinforcing the vital role volunteers play in our communities. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, and empower each other to continue our impactful work. The partnerships started to take form and all before lunch!
We also emphasised a paradigm shift in how we view volunteer contributions, advocating for a focus on value rather than merely counting hours. This shift encourages us to recognise the true impact of a volunteer's skills and expertise. By valuing the quality and impact of volunteer work over the number of hours, we can better appreciate and leverage the unique talents each volunteer brings. This approach not only maximises efficiency and effectiveness but also enhances volunteer satisfaction and engagement, as their contributions are recognized and valued in meaningful ways
Doing good is good for business, the community and ourselves. Reach out and see how you can help!
